We are based on the east coast of Mauritius in a small village called 'Deux Freres' on the bank of Grand River South East, the longest river of Mauritius. The lodge is ideally located at canoeing distance halfway between the waterfall and the crystal lagoon of ile aux cerfs. At Otentic, we try to give a truly Mauritian experience to our guests. Our friendly staff, who all live nearby the lodge, will make sure that you discover their region, the east coast of Mauritius, probably the most beautiful coast of the island. Simplicity and conviviality are two key values for us. Our objective is to share with our guests the Mauritian way of life, our culinary habits, our diverse communities, traditions and religious beliefs while enhancing the natural environment and improving the livelihood of surrounding communities.

It was a honour be the first international guests to arrive in two years. We received an amazing welcome from Julien and staff. The traditional Mauritian food was delicious. It’s awesome to be able to go supping and canoeing to the waterfall as well as the shuttle boat to the beach where we went parasailing and tubing. It’s a chilled relaxed atmosphere, every guest is made to feel at home

Amazing food, family vibe and gorgeous surroundings made this stay just superb.
Julien is the best host and special mention goes to both the rum selection, as well as the grounds/environment.

My daughter adored the pool, and I personally loved the community connection with music.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again!

My boyfriend and I visited Otentic for four nights and we had an amazing time. The staff is very friendly and helpful and Julien (the owner) took us for a kitesurfing trip to Joyride - a great experience! The food was amazing and you get a lot of value for money with all the included activities. We hope to return one day, and I can strongly recommend to stay with them for a couple of days when you visit Mauritius!

We enjoyed the tent experience, food was excellent, the cooking staff was very friendly and welcoming and made some authentic mauritian cuisine.
It was a very relaxing setting and kayaking on the river is definitely something we'd recommend. And if you love dogs, they will be a welcome highlight of your experience.

Could have been a 10 out of 10 experience had it not been for surprising turn of events on the last day. Even though checkout is officially at noon, the cleaning staff came to our tent before 11:00 a.m. and were embarassed to have to ask us to vacate, upon recommendati

We recently spent 3 nights at Otentic, and had a fabulous time. All the staff are super friendly, and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Especially Iyaaz the manager, who is truly an amazing host. The food is really good, and the kitchen made special vegan dishes for my husband. The tents are very comfortable, and clean. We went kayaking one day, and did a day trip to Ile aux Cerfs - both free of charge if you are staying at the hotel.

The only negative I can think of is the noise of barking dogs at night. And the call to prayers and roosters in the early morning. Take earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

This place was one of the best places that we have stayed in Mauritius and we have also been to great Hotels. However Otentic Eco Tents was the most personal and authentic place with absolutely amazing food. Every meal is prepared with a lot of passion and tastes delicious. The tents are great, well equipped and cosy. The free boat ride and included sports equipment are a bonus on top! Well done Julien and your crew :)

The place is laid back and gorgeous. The food is fantastic, and the staff is absolutely lovely!
Would a the perfect place for a long stay, if one needs to 'get away'! You can be completely cut off down by the river, or stroll through the village for anything that you might need...
And I have to mention that the citronella lotion they provide in the room is perfect to keep the mosquitoes away!

Otentic is such a relaxed and fun place! My husband and I only managed to stay for one night which wasn't really enough time to fully immerse ourselves in the atmosphere, so we'd definitely recommend 2 or 3 nights.
We loved kayaking to the waterfall and seeing the monkeys, playing darts whilst drinking beer (my husband was happy as it's craft beer) and just generally chilling out. The lunch was THE best food we had across the whole island for two weeks, everything is really fresh. The serve yourself bar is also very fun.
The tents are really comfortable and we were surprised there were no critters inside!

A main disappointment was that it's not a full escape into nature because you can hear the road and our tent was right next to an apartment block. I had read other reviews saying this but I thought they were just being picky, but having been there I do now agree.

Don't let this stop you from going, because it really is a great experience, just be aware that you're not surrounded by nature, (apart from the amazing river of course)

Some additional advice is to do this experience near the start of your holiday before heading into more luxurious accommodation (if you're planning to), we ended up doing it the other way round and was a bit of a shock to the system at first! I think this is why you need a minimum of two nights really, it takes one night to understand what the place is about and relax into it. And when you do relax, you won't want to leave!

The atmosphere is really serene, cosy in the common space. Everyone is trusting everyone, this is a positive touch in our current world.
The kitchen staff is really nice, helpful and went the extra mile to accommodate my dietary requirements.
Several activities are provided for free: canoe, archery, … this is really another nice touch.

As an engineer I found the tents well organised, well thought through, except maybe the bathroom that is open and, consequently, quite infested by mosquitoes. The tents are on the small side if you are more than 2.

We initially booked 4 nights but left after only one night since it was too noisy for us: the road traffic is really heavy and so noisy. YEs there are many strayed dogs in Mauritius, but the compound has several dogs that answer to the calls of the passing dogs. Consequently, several time during the night you will be awaken by O’Tentic’s dogs.
I was also surprised that they did not help us with our luggage while the property is really steep, going down toward the river.
If you are fussy about hygiene,I’ll let you judge…..

Overall a very interesting experience, and I wish them success, they deserve it!

Hello, In the mountain lodge we have mosquitos nets over the beds. In the river lodge we have fans & anti mosquito electrical devices inside the tent. Once plugged after 10 minutes no more mosquitos in the tent. Regards Julien

Hello, Taxi is definetely the easiest and fastest way to get to Otentic. You can expect to payaround Rs 1,400 (Euro 35) and the travel time should be around 40 minutes max. There are no busses going directly. Alternatively you can rent a car from the airport. Looking forward to welcoming you soon Julien (owner)
