At our check in the man at recption didn't seem so pleased to see us he was just grumpy! he just directed us to our rooms from a distance any questions we asked the answer was off. as soon as we opened our rooms an unpleasent smell said hello to us, from the carpets to the towels everything was dirty. the bed did'nt have a night frill, the blankets are antient old felt like I'm in jail with the smell also, then decided to get an extra blanket because the room was a bit chilly which was a bad idea cause the smell was even worse. decided to take a shower and found that it had soap scubs and a filthy drain. also do something with that loud noise that goes on when you swicth on the bathroom light one cannot enjoy a shower in so much noise.
It's an old hotel but it can be kept clean, the hygiene level is on negative.

Vredendal and Vredendal Hotel - a total desaster.
Not only did the manager on duty request us to pay (again) for the already paid accommodation (he did not accept the voucher and had not received the payment info from his backoffice) - a bad start. The hotel looked like a 20 years old former middle class hotel that has not experienced any renovation. And what's worse: that still uses the original sheets and pillows.
The room was “ok” if you avoid looking too close to the numerous suspicious spots on the walls, lamps and sockets or light switches. The bathroom showed clear traces of spill-overs during the last 20 years, the wooden door frame had no more paint at the lower end.
Worst of all the bed looked just filthy and as if already used a night or two. The pillow cases were so old and thin that you could literally see through them. And what you see is a clumsy, worn out and dirty pillow. We requested to change pillows, pillow cases and sheets to new ones and got slightly better ones (still not really acceptable, but we had no choice).
The room (#101) was located on the ground floor next to the pool. Two severe disadvantages : if there were people around the pool, they could hardly avoid observing what’s going on in our room. So we had to shut the curtains immediately. And: the hallway to the rooms is separated from the outdoor part by a really noisy metal grid door. All other guests would need to pass that door (and make those slamming noises). Room 101 is located directly next to this source of noise.
When we stayed there we were almost the only guests, so the noise annoyance was limited. However our short stay in the hotel was definitely more an emergency accommodation, not a holiday environment.
In addition, the city of Vredendal may be located at a traveler friendly place (at the crossing of some important roads) but it is not prepared to feed them, at least not on a Sunday evening : we checked the three restaurants with “acceptable” reviews on trip advisor and found two of them closed on Sundays and one closed since mid of 2015 (18 months ago!). A culinary vast desert. We ended up taking a pizza from “Whimpy’s” to our room and eating it in the repellent atmosphere of the Vredendal Hotel.
Overall: An almost complete desaster and a place that we definitely avoid at any further trips to South Africa.

Room Tip: avoid the rooms close to the NOISY metal grid door (e.g. 101). Or avoid the hotel at all.

A convenient place to overnight. Easy to access, but not sure if we will stay there again. Bar is used by too many locals, but the rooms are very comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly and keen to assist.

Disgusting !!!!!

Tori let does not flush. The service is unbearable. Staff at bar has no manners or is not following code of conduct to greet guest.

Hotel smells like cleaning company. Heavy harsh cleaning chemicals like a lost city!!!

Ants in our bedroom..

Grumpy staff that don't greet at clients and look at you like you not suppose to be here. Heavily disgusted!!get your act together especially if you in the hotel industry!!!

You can learn a thing or two from hotels around South Africa!

The hotel is a good idea in theory in the small town, but it is not up to scratch.
The beds are uncomfortable and the blankets retain no heat and make you itch (they are also an eye sore).
The rooms look very old in style and not modern or even antique.

The best part is probably the breakfast buffet, which has average service.
I would go for one of the guest houses in the area instead.
The second time I stayed here I had a room that stank of cigarettes.
Not ideal for a good nights rest.
