First, we could not get a straight answer if there will be beds in our eco-tent at the end of May. Our reservation specifically said "with beds". The email we got two days before our stay said there will be no beds. Website says there are no beds are the end of May. Total confusion. When we decided to cancel our reservation, we still had to pay for our stay. But on top of that, Flamingo charged us a cancellation fee. So, all in all, we paid more for not staying there than what we'd pay if we did stay. Never seen this before.
We stayed there for my husbands 60th birthday. The only negative thing besides obvious mosquitos was that we didn't book it for a 2nd night. I LOVED sleeping in the bed with the screens overlooking the water at night and the stars in the sky. It was an extremely comfortable bed and if you needed to use the bathroom the boardwalk had little runway lights to follow at night. It was nice to sit in the tent away from the mosquitos and still feel the wonderful breeze and see such beauty
Spent 2 nights here. The sites were extremely large, only electric in our T-loop. They offer potable water at the dump station, which was in a very convenient location. 2 very clean bathhouse. Never found a beach to swim but plenty of places to bike, hike and kayak. It is a long 30+ miles from the main gate so make sure you have your essentials. The marina is a close bike ride if you need a few groceries. We decided on the last day to take in a hike and then did about 4 more. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen. The rangers were very helpful and full of knowledge. We did the local Alligator farm airboat ride. Let them 5 miles outside the gate.
My sister and I glamped for one night at the end of February in one of the ECO Tents fully furnished. We were given the tent the furthest distance on the boardwalk. CON: a long walk to the bathrooms. PRO: Privacy and a beautiful view Accommodations were comfortable and roomy. Plenty of tent openings to enjoy the breeze. We prepared our meals at the picnic tables provided which was near the car parking and restrooms and outdoor cleaning sinks. Timing when to eat and not be eaten by mosquitoes can be tricky, but I live in Florida and this is a part of my life anyway. My sister and I loved our stay and would do it again!
Thoroughly enjoyed our camping trip to The Everglades National Park and 3 nights at the Flamingo Campground. Unfortunately, I was unable to book a site with electricity even with checking back weekly during the month prior to our visit. We had a lovely, shaded site (63) in the T loop with peeks of beautiful sunsets between the trees. It was nice and quiet with plenty of green space around us. We brought our bikes and loved riding the trail along the bay to the marina. The next day we took our beach chairs and found a secluded spot off the trail to sit read and enjoy the breeze. Bring your screen enclosures as the mosquitoes were bad and we could only sit out during the day when it was hot and there was a breeze to keep them away. Dusk around the campfire was just an opportunity to donate blood to the Flamingo mosquito family!! The shower house was clean and even though there was no hot water, a cool afternoon shower felt good. The marina was my favorite spot as we were able to see an osprey nest with male and female birds in the nest, manatee in the marina basin, and salt water crocs sunning on the banks. We took a boat tour of the bay and saw more wildlife (roosting pelicans and pods of dolphins swimming in the bay). Our morning backwater bay boat trip was canceled so we rented kayaks and paddled up the canal. Not much wildlife out that afternoon. We walked Snake Bight, Anhinga, and Gumbo Limbo trails and enjoyed seeing the various Everglades ecosystems in the park. The movie at the Coe Visitor Center is a nice overview of the park and the overlook at Pa hay okee is a worthwhile stop as well.…
My husband and I just stayed at the EcoTent site in Everglades National Park. But never again! The only reason to stay in these tents is so you can have a lovely view of the water and the sunset as you retreat for the night and wake up in the morning. To get these beautiful views you need to have your tent flaps up. But our tent was located with our viewing windows on 2 sides about 8 feet from the boardwalk. Yes, we could see the water, but also everyone walking past. And they could see us. And they looked, and they waved, and they even shined lights on us in the middle of the night. It was ridiculous. The fishbowl effect plus the long walk to the not very clean restrooms, the battalions of mosquitoes, the closeness of the tents and total lack of sound privacy, and the inability to have any food at or inside our tent meant that this was not the trip we wanted. We brought great food with us but ended up eating it in the Marina parking lot with mosquitoes all around. We had planned to stay 3 nights as we have loved the Everglades for decades, but the discomfort and disappointment in the EcoTent site meant we left after 1 night. And of course EcoTents of Flamingo Adventures does not give refunds. Never again! Save your money and bring your own tent.…
In January 2019, a review was posted that talked about a bad neighbor in T 62 and T63 campsites. What this person failed to mention was their family started the day with music blaring outside, and moving their fire ring across their campsite to the edge of the neighboring campsite. There had been no previous complaints about this camper. The veteran was not armed. No one was threatened. The teenage boys were making a lot of noise. What was a peaceful campground became a noisy free for all thanks to this family. The complainer said the veteran had PTSD. ( How would they know). There was no cursing and no threats. The campground was not in danger. What a joke.
Flamingo is a 45 mile trip out of your way. There are no full hookups. So why go there? Start with huge sites, really nice rest rooms/showers, the best camp store I have ever seen and a chance to see manatees and ospreys up close. Oh, yeah, friendly vultures wandering the sites. Definitely worth the trip
Very interesting place to stay. The only hookups are electric, but there is water to fill your fresh water tank. Nice bathrooms. The campsites are clean and nice. A few more shade trees would help. Our only complaint is that neither the camp host or any ranger enforced camp rules. The brochure clearly says no washing of boats and yet every night there was a group who completely flushed and washed their boat, just 2 sites from the host. Quiet time wasn’t enforced either. Many boaters came back late and were loud while they washed their boat and dumped their sewage.
This is a magical National Park and the southern area is especially wonderful. This review is specific to the campground Loop T (electric sites). Camped in a 35” motorhome. We are self-contained so cannot comment on restrooms/shower facilities. Pros – - Sites are level and spacious. - The campground is very quiet - Near the marina and several trails. - Wonderful area to bike ride and kayak. - The people working in the office, the volunteers and camp workers are very helpful and friendly. Cons – - No water or sewage hookup – but we knew this up front and didn’t mind. - No Verizon or T-Mobile service but the ATT cell and internet worked very well.
