Kariega Game Reserve is a 10,000 hectare Big 5 malaria-free private game reserve in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. The safari experience combines close up Big 5 game viewing, an expansive variety of fauna, flora & birdlife, a landscape spanning 5 eco-systems and dramatic views and vistas. Kariega has five safari lodges. Main Lodge consists of 24 separate log chalets, each with en-suite bathrooms, lounge & private balcony; River Lodge has 10 suites and is located on the Bushman's River; Ukhozi Lodge has 10 spacious suites, each with private pools and great views; Settlers Drift has 9 modern but intimate suites surrounded by natural bush and overlooking the Bushman's River wilderness area and lastly the Homestead private lodge is perfectly suited for families or groups of friends of up to 14 people. Rates include accommodation, meals, morning and evening game drives with an experienced guide, guided bush walks and a river cruise. Fishing & canoeing can also be arranged.

Beautiful and large tented suite, very good food, best game viewing and wildlife experience I had so far in the Cape region… I would definitely recommand this place for all Garden Route travellers, as you possibly get the closest feeling to African nature and wildlife, as possible in that part of the country…

An amazing place. Luxury and wilderness somehow perfectly combined! The facilities, food, location and opportunity to see the wildlife were all excellent, but what really made it was the service and the people. Their warmth and helpfulness was outstanding.

I cannot praise the wonderful team of staff at Kareiga highly enough. Our safari guide Amber was absolutely awesome, her attitude, enthusiasm and knowledge helped make our safari experience perfect. We saw far more animals than we ever expected, including the big 5, all healthy and roaming free in their natural habitat. The property, food and facilities are not luxury 5* but we did not go for this. We went for a safari and this 3-day experience exceeded expectations.

Wow! Where do I begin? I’ll begin with saying GO! Book it! What an amazing experience! As a family of 5 with a 3 year old, 6 year old, and 10 year old, I could not be more satisfied with our decision to visit Kariega! We were treated with such care and great attention throughout the duration of our 2-night stay from our amazing guide to each staff member we encountered! I cannot say enough about Mr. Forrest, our guide! Our two youngest sons were so sad to leave him and my oldest enjoyed him as well. He made sure to answer their questions, quiz them along the game drives and stopped to show them things that would really peak their interests. His kind spirit and warm personality made our experience THAT much better. (All the best to your future. Nothing but peace and blessings to you Forrest!) The food! Each meal was prepared with love and seasoned to perfection…things that my young, chicken nugget-loving boys would never touch, they actually enjoyed! The wait and restaurant staff was always so kind and greeted us each time with a loving smile. Our waiter went over and beyond to satisfy our little ones. Our chalet was perfect! The space was just right for us and it was clean and neat as the pictures show. The boys played in our personal pool for a short period and also enjoyed the main pool. My youngest who absolutely LOVES to watch monkeys on YouTube was fortunate to receive a visit by a family of his little fiends the last morning of our stay! We enjoyed the kids areas for a short time of play on our departure day as we had to wait for a couple of hours for our transportation after checking out of our chalet. We also had our cousin and his fiancé who traveled with us and stayed at the Ukhozi Lodge. My goodness, the pictures of their room and food they’re shared with us looked amazing as well. They told us that each meal they ate was delectable! Again, no complaints from a mother who was a little nervous of this experience with 3 active boys…it’s perfect! Thank you again Kariega and Mr. Forrest for an AMAZING first African safari for my family! And did I forget to mention that we saw ALL the main animals and much more with plenty of time to observe? It’s worth it…Go! …

Great game drives with awesome ranger. Food and rooms were okayish have expected slightly more for the price. Also would habe wished to sit alone druing breakfast and Diner. But we were there for Safari and this was awesome.

Absolutely out of this world experience. We knew we would love it but it actually exceeded all our expectations. That was not just because of the wildlife but because of the staff who were so incredibly gracious and welcoming to us and our hugely knowledgeable guide Megan who made us feel like old friends and ensured that every single trip we were in awe of what she showed us.

A beautiful location coupled with top notch staff made this a fantastic first time safari experience for us. The rooms were lovely, we loved the turn down service too. We had a golf buggy to reach our room which was great. All the food was presented beautifully and tasted great. Loved eating as a group with our guide Ossie who was outstanding. We were looked after by a lovely friendly staff and cannot fault this place.
