City Centre
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Hotel is in a great location with comfortable rooms. We had two rooms, one with a river view and the other a city view. Two twin beds, shower/bath (small) with a separate room for toilet. The beds by western standards are quite firm, but this is what I found all around

Vertical Garden, but picture does not do it justice. I stood in tub and I could not see top or bottom of this wall. Very private.
Really nice shower/tub area with view of vertical garden
Does the public bath house allow people with tattoos? Thank you for any info.
Hi I can confirm there is a sign saying no tattoos. I just checked my photos.

Can someione tell me the size of the beds in the twin rooms? They look larger than US twins.
Additional thoughts: I think I stayed in the room with two queens but but not sure if they were actually two queen sized beds or really two doubles. Sorry I'm not more help. The rooms are compact but fine for 2-3 people or two adults and two smaller children if your not spending much time in the room. We ended up getting two rooms for 4 people. Bathrooms are quite small but they work/ small sink/ shower. The windows were not able to open in my room. But it was pouring rain so we weren't needing them open. I did not detect any mold in the hotel, it felt very fresh which is a key consideration for us as I have a severe mold allergy. Beds like almost all "western" style beds in Japan are quite hard and I did ask for extra comforters, linens, blankets to try to soften them a bit. But if you like a more firm bed you'll be golden. Enjoy your time in Kyoto such a great spot and the location is very central to everything. Google translate was very helpful, and using google maps helped me quite a bit in walking around and finding what we needed. Allow extra time in the train station or better yet research the exact route you are taking and photograph that on your phone, then use cash (your card may not work in the train machines) for the automated train ticketing machines or wait in line for an operator who can take credit card. I found that sometimes I found better routes than the train operators possibly because of what was lost in translation. Also if you can order your JR passes before you enter the country you will save some $$$. We didn't realize that the prices were that different but they are. Also fyi an international driver's license is a requirement for renting a car. We didn't know that until we looked into renting a car as we were interested in touring around. So we ended up taking the train. Hope that helps!

Do any of the room types have windows that open in order to get some fresh air?
Yes, I opened the window on the side of the street - but the airco is automatic and cannot be changed in the room. Thats what reception told me.
