We have just finished a wonderful week staying at the Livadi Studios near Lakka, Paxos. The studios consist of number of two person studios facing the pool, then around the back, through the lime, lemon and olive tree garden there are a few more two person studios plus a two bedroom 4 person apartment, with and kitchen \ lounge arrangement. This is where we stayed with our two children, aged 10 and 13. The apartment was perfect, there is an electric two ring cooker, Wifi, no dishwasher or washing machine, but there is no need to eat in. It's not that much more to eat out in the many Taverna's which are only a few minute walk away. Both bedrooms have air conditioning which worked really well. From the start we set a rule that the bedroom doors much be shut and no windows open at all times, as such no one got bitten and the apartment stayed really cool, even when it was late 30's outside. The garden is really beautifully maintained to a high standard by a lovely lady from the town, do not worry if your studio is "round the back", the view of the garden is really nice and peaceful with the sound of Cicada in the Olive trees (sound like crickets) The pool is plenty big enough for all the guests, the week we were there it created a really nice community feel which helped make the week. The Studios are a 5 min walk along a flat road to the nearest supermarket, which stocks everything you need. The town is only a min or two further on. We didn't appreciate how close we were to the town until we arrived. People driving to Lakka park on the road at the end of the drive to walk in. We didn't hire a car when we were there, the island is so small there is no need. There is a regular bus service that several of our new found friends used with no hassle (everyone speaks far better English than we speak Greek), as there were four of us, we found it cheaper and more convenient to use the local Taxi's. You can get anywhere on the island for €10, we found that if you were only going to Ben's Bar (well worth a visit, but get there early, or call the day before to book a sun bed. Service is fantastic, plus they have free paddle boards for you to use) or Loggos it was €8. There are 5 taxis on the island, and we always managed to get one within the hour if we did not book, which is brilliant seeing as we were there in one of the busiest weeks of the year. Lakka is lovely, full of shops, several bakery's, ATM and supermarkets and many, many taverna's. We ate out every night, somewhere different. I will not recommend any as it would be unfair, they are all a little different, some will take you into the kitchen to show you what's being cooked tonight, some a little more up market, some with a real traditional Greek feel. With the exception of Akis on the front, which is aimed at a more affluent market, there was not that much difference in price and the quality was really great everywhere. We didn't have a single bad meal all holiday. There are two beaches in Lakka harbour, both can be accessed by a path that runs past and up the side of Akis, the second has a bar, in between the two there is a great rock for the kids to jump off. Considering they are in a harbour, the beaches are really clean and the water clear. It's great fun swimming amongst the many large yachts and super yachts that roll in. Before starting our holiday we had planned to hire a boat for several of the days to explore, before we embarked solo trips we joined the Sunvil arranged boat around the Island and over to Anti Paxos, we'd really recommend it, they let you swim off the boat at the Blue Caves, drop you off at the amazing Anti Paxos beach and give you a really feel for where to go when you do hire a boat. When we came to hire a boat, we tried in Lakka but being on the northern tip of the island, it's quite exposed to the weather and our trip was cancelled. We then asked the Sunvil rep to book us a boat for the remainder of the week, he used a firm in Loggos, which is more sheltered. We then managed to sail when people in Lakka struggled, the first day we were told not to head north as it was rough, but we were fine sticking to the south east area. The following trip, all was calm and we circumnavigated the island and explored Anti Paxos. We found some amazing beaches with no one on. For us it was all about the snorkelling, you have to spend time at the blue caves, it's amazing. We picked up a tip about dropping a little bread into the water…. Wow… it was like being in a fish tank :-) When it comes to hiring a boat, they all charge the same so don't worry too much about which you chose. Will we come back, I think we certainly will, there is a little part of all of us left on Paxos. Even though it was peak season, it's quiet. You're limited to the number of holiday lets on the island, and with very few hotels I can't imagine it ever getting "busy" like Corfu and other islands.
