Arrived at the lodge late in the night on 23rd October 2013 on a 5day vacation. The lodge was expecting us at 19hrs serve for the delayes along the road we arrived as a couple aroind 21hrs yet the staff patiently waited for us and had prepared wonderful dinner. The lodge has very beutiful sorroundings overlooking the lake. It is so nice to watch the beutiful sunrise seated on one of the beutiful rocks around the lodge. The rooms are very nice and spacoius with 3 beds in each room. You can choose were you want to sleep on a particular night. The service is very good and their meals are excellent. The staff sometimes goes out of their way to serve their guest. They have a small swiming pool which perhaps could be expanded to catter for great swimmers. On our 3rd day at the lodge we had an opportunity to see beautiful sunset on the lake. It was mavelous. Its a must do activity if you visit Sinazongwe. My overall rating of the lodge is very good and they have great potential. If you need a place to have a holiday, ts the place to be.

My time at Lakeview Lodge was quite relaxing, if not a bit pricy. I stayed for four nights camping (100 kwacha a night, an extra 20 a night for a padded mattress). They offer a nice selection of activities, which include a sunset cruise, and game walk on the island. These activities offer a cumulative price, meaning it's better to come with more friends to get a cheaper deal. With four people the sunset cruise costs 375 kwacha per person. A disappointing experience was the game walk on Chete Island, as my party only saw impala, hippos, and avian life from a distance. Furthermore, our guide was grumpy, drunk, and didn't realize that we had signed up to spend a full day on the island, rather than just two hours. However, after complaining to the manager, Barbara, that evening, she contacted the guide's boss about the incident. We were notified the next day that he was dismissed from his job. The manager Barbara was a delight. She offered my party free transport to the nearest ATM when they had to pick up gas, and cooked up some of the finest Garlic Bread and Vegetable Samosas I have ever tasted. If you plan to eat at the lodge (which has a great chef, with most dishes coming in about 98-110 kwacha), see if you can get her to make one of these items. For me, she did garlic bread on the chicken burger order, it was divine. Overall, a nice place, definitely stay there if you plan on seeing the Sinazongwe side of Lake Kariba.

I went with my family and stayed in one of their bungalow. They are spacious, modern, well decorated, outside shower and with a large porch with view to the lake. The food in the place, despite there are not many option, is really really tasty. Barbara is an amazing host that will ensure your stay is lovely. You can do different types of activities, sunset cruise, walking safari, fishing. Completely recommended.

Awesome destination for an spectacular getaway. Amazing views, sunsets and attention. You can do multiple activities like walking safaris and sunset cruises. We visited Zambia's side of the lake and it is stunning. You can see cocodriles really early in the morning just by the shore in front of each lodge, good food and breakfast is included. Monkeys can be seen all around.

We stayed in Lakeview Lodge for 5 days and had a little bit of a mixed experience. First of all, finding the lodge isn't that easy, since the promised traffic signs from Sinazongwe Village were very hard to find. But, after arriving at the lodge, we were impressed by the cottages and stunning view from the porch and the swimming pool. The lodge was very quiet and lacked a little bit of atmosphere, apart from the beautiful view of Kariba lake. The cottages were comfortable and clean, although the bathroom was a little outdated. The general pool & dining area were well maintained, but lacked a cosy atmosphere, especially during dinner (we brought our own candle to make up for that). The operational staff members were really helpful and friendly, although they could also be a bit too shy and passive at specific times. What is a shame, is that the lodge has recently been taken over by new management and is really suffering since. We were not welcomed by the managing lady, she was in fact not very bothered about her guests at all. Furthermore, none of the advertised activities (boat tours, village tour, walking safaris) were on offer during our stay, due to a damaged boat and a general lack of interest by management. When we requested a village tour with guide (and were willing to pay for it) we were just told that "this hadn't been done in a long time and that we could go ourselves". Options for dinner were very limited to the same three dishes every night and none of the remaining dishes were offered even though the manager went to town for grocery shopping. What is really great about the lodge is its peace & quiet, but if you are looking for a truly luxurious and active holiday, Lakeview Lodge is not the place to be. All in all the location of Lakeview Lodge is beautiful and its operational staff friendly. What a shame that management could not exploit the full potential of this lodge...

So - to be clear, there are two properties here - the Lakeside Lodge and Chikanka island. We went to the Lakeside Lodge... I suspect Chikanka island is much nicer from reading the reviews! The Lakeside Lodge is 'ok', but really wasn't worth the punishing drive to get there. In fairness, they are creating a tar road, but until it's finished, it's a bumpy ~15km or so to get there. The lodge is quite basic and not really the 'luxury' escape we had hoped for. The room was essentially just 3 beds and a basic kitchen and bathroom. We were the only people staying there (and I suspect that would have been the case on at least several months a year). Despite this we were able to get a meal, although it was far from impressive unfortunately. The 400g steak was more like 100g, resulting in us going back to the car for some cheese and snacks. Don't expect much from the 'beach' - the lake is full of crocs and cows frequently walk along the shore, leaving multiple deposits wherever you look. Not a bad option if breaking up a long journey, but you may want to just keep driving...

After intense overland adventure in Kafue NP and Lunga river the visit to Kariba lake was beautiful and peaceful interlude before going back into exploring Chobe and Moremi. The Lake View lodge is located right at the lake shore with its stone and sandy beaches. The lodge offers clean and tidy chalets facing the lake and has its own swimming pool which might be important as the lake has stable population of crocs. Lake View Lodge is a serene place, very quiet and relaxing with possibility to spend some time on the lake as the lodge offers trips with its own boats and a ZAWA officer, shall you visit the NP on the Chete island. The access to the lodge is easy, through Sinazongwe village, you just need to take into account that last part of the trip is on the dirt road, along a new road which is under construction. We had a truly relaxing time there.

We camped here for a couple of nights. The lodge has no designated camp ground but they accommodated us next to a lodge in a quiet part of the site. They gave us a key to use the shower and bathroom facilities in the lodge which were immaculate - well kept with running hot water! The lodge itself was beautiful! We were able to use the terrace to view the amazing view over the Kariba. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

When family comes in from overseas, there is a lot of pressure to show them a good time. Chikanka Island's hosts, Lorinda and Guy did not disappoint! We had a marvelous three night stay. As much as the rain tried to dampen our spirits, our determination to have a good time and the generosity of our hosts made Chikanka Island the perfect retreat. The food was delicious and the scenery unmistakably Lake Kariba. Clean chalets, with classic southern African decor, each with spectacular views of the lake. The water was too high to make a success of fishing, but we had a good time practicing our casts. We would highly recommend Lakeview Lodge and Chikanka Island and hope to return someday!
