Detailed Reviews
Stayed here to go on a fishing trip the following morning (early morning). Sarah helped us out by providing the best breakfast I've potentially ever had in my young life. The most wonderful host a person could ever wish and the rooms were just stunning. Great atmosphere, perfect accomodation and absolutely amazing service. I wish we could've stayed longer because the beds were so comfy! Really enjoyable and although we have had a short time with Sarah, the time spent was amazing and I'll definitely be returning here soon. Overall a 6/5 experience!!!

Excellent hosts. Rooms are in excellent condition overlooking the harbour. Very accessible to all areas and walking distance from the beach and harbour. The hosts are some of the best we have seen. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

My name is Xolani for the Department of Agriculture, forestry & fisheries from cape town. I was in struisbaai for business purposes. They booked for my accommodation at Ocean View guest house in August 2013 for 4 days and in September 2013 also for 4 days. What a nice place to be!!!My favourite room is called Orange Room: is entirely neat and clean, dstv available with most visited channels, bar fridge, internet connection Wi-Fi available 24 hours, refreshements. The most interesting things about this please it is traditional: food is so delicious & uncomparable, high sense of belonging, you feel safe and "Serah" the owner is always available with her wonderfull, cheerfull and rewarding services. It is a non-races-guest house every one is welcome from practical experiences. Wooow!!! its great Keeep it up Serah ,your place is very unique and standardised. once more thank you very for you Outstanding Services, you have demostrated high level of passion in what you doing. Hopefully I will visit your guest house again!!!!!!
May the Lord Bless you further

We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts in various parts of the world and I will say without a doubt, this was the most odd. I will admit the owner was very kind and I almost wonder if that's why there are so many "excellent" reviews....maybe the reviewers didn't want to hurt her feelings but goodness....I really wish more people would have given a more accurate description of the property because we definitely would not have stayed here.
We booked two rooms. One for my husband and I and the other for my elderly mom and adult daughter. Where to start....I guess with their room because we saw it first. At first glance is seemed fairly "normal" but upon further examination, that wasn't the case. The bathroom had swinging saloon style doors which might be okay for a couple but really not satisfactory with regard to my mom/daughter's privacy! Then once the decorative pillows were removed from the bed, there were big holes in the headboard. Finally there was, what appeared to be, blood on the bed skirt/dust ruffle. GROSS!!!
On to our room. We had to walk right past the owners' private living space to get to our room. There were a couple of family members there and it was just awkward....they just kind of stared at us as we would go back and forth between our room and my mom/daughter's room. They were making dinner in the kitchen and I know we all have different tastes but whatever they were making smelled foul to us and the smell wafted right up into our room since we were right over the kitchen. I grabbed my hubby and got out of there for several hours. Then there was the room itself. We had the "honeymoon suite." This is not a place to be if you are modest at all as the toilet, bidet, bathtub AND shower are in FULL view if the other person in the room is at the table or on the couch. There are no doors/shower curtains/dividers, etc. NOTHING!!! Having said that, there was another toilet and shower off to the side of the room but OUTSIDE on like the roof of the house. With the wind whipping through there, it was like getting a shower and blow dry at the same time!!! Very bizarre and strange set up. And again, I know it's kinda "each to his own" with decorating but there were these weird dolls in a basket right at the top of the stairs leading to our room and in our room on the wall hug a small pink dress (maybe a Christening dress?) in a frame.
And whilst technically, it was a bed and breakfast because we did indeed get breakfast, we just didn't get it there. We were given vouchers and sent to a local pizza parlor who just happened to do breakfast. Never had that happen before.
I was actually embarrassed and apologized profusely to my mom and daughter for booking us there....every where else we stayed (on the Garden Route and in Stellenbosch) was awesome and I fully expected this place to be as well based on TripAdvisor reviews. Sadly, that just wasn't the case. If you want to stay somewhere really nice, check out the Villa @ Cape Agulhas where we've stayed in the past but was unfortunately booked during this trip.

The room was warm and comfy even in the middle of winter and had a lovely view of the Indian Ocean. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a generous and tasty breakfast.
Sarah's intimate knowledge of the area enabled us to take advantage of the last rays of sunlight to see the southern tip of Africa and then see the best of the coast (from the whales to the penguins) as we continued our journey towards Capetown on the following day.

After reading the reviews of Ocean View, we had high expectations, however we were a bit disappointed during our 2-night stay here. It is very well situated with pleasant views from the dining room. Our room was a bit strange, and had two bathrooms - one inside the room (separated by a chest-high wall) and one en-suite. We had the green room and literally everything was green - every morning the entire room would be cast in an eerie green glow. Our ceiling fan also looked like it was about to fall off the ceiling.
A further concern was that we were charged full rates despite there being constant renovations and angle-grinding during the day. The breakfast was as one would expect at a BnB. Overall we were disappointed to say the least, but enjoyed the surrounding area.

Response from Sarahsmit, Owner at Ocean View Guest B&B
Responded 02 Feb 2016
Hi there Christopher I am so sorry that you were unhappy, I am really at your service 24hours a day and not one time you said to me you are not happy , even if I asked you so many times are you happy , in the morning at breakfast I asked if you slept well and your commend was "VERY WEL'' a bit confusing . I you asked me to move you to another room I would have tried my best. The Green room is like a apartment it has 2 bathrooms the one with a bath and a wash tub and a toilet, and then there is one with a large shower and another private toilet. As I mentioned to you that we had a problem with the fan , but also said to you that there are a loose standing fan on the table, you did not have to use the ceiling fan. When you left I walked with you to the car to see you off and still you did not mention that you were unhappy, I always try to keep my clients happy but cant satisfy everybody. I am really so sorry. Thank you Sarah The Owner

Beautiful property, spacious rooms and lovely leisure area. The manager was always there to make us very welcome and we felt cared about. Perfect location just 100 m from the beachfront. About 20 min walk from shops and restaurants.

But expensive for what we got .
No TV very narrow bed NO DUVET Just a sheet Found a blanket
No shampoo and we were moved into what is obviously a pvt house next door .
Had to pay CASH ????
Very very noisy Drunk patrons.
The Owner demanded we take BF at 8 and we made a point of that only to be told that it was 8 30 when we arrived Annoying .
For the price was not worth it
A lack of care it sems as money seems the most important thing

OK - so Struissbai is a little off the beaten track and probably not more than a 1 night stay for most people who are ticking the Cape Aghulas box, which included us! And the Ocean View is in a lovely location that does indeed overlook the ocean, while the owner seemed to be a genuinely friendly lady who personally gave us a warm welcome. So far, so good. However, both of the bedrooms we booked were overfilled with the most bizarre collections of paintings, wall hangings and bric-a-brac imaginable, including a rather misplaced baby's christening dress! The modern bathroom and toilet fittings - placed in full view of the bed, couch, table etc - appeared to have been added as the ill-conceived afterthought of someone having read a design catalogue and deciding to add a new twist to the basic set-up, which already included showers and toilets, originally built 'outside' the bedrooms. It has to be said that everything was very clean and the breakfast was nicely served and wholesome enough. But our lasting impression of Ocean View was 'just weird'.

Toilet, shower, bathtub (plus 2 washbasins) and bed all in one room … what else do I have to say ?
BUT: there's a second loo + shower outside on the balcony...
I have to blame myself, though, for nor looking at the pictures close enough.
