Detailed Reviews

Moon Shine on Whiskey Creek offers a delightful and somewhat quirky holiday experience. The accommodation site has plenty to offer for the more adventurous at heart! The cabin is incredible, well constructed, interesting and adorable. The best part is the outdoor shower on your private balcony and the raised bed next to a window with panoramic views of the forests in the distance. Did I mention you can invite nature into the cabin by lowering the window next to the bed?!
The Pros:
Easy to find and well-marked next to the N2.
The cabin was clean, neat, well-equipped and a joy to stay at!
Staying at the cabin you feel at one with nature and have a sense of freedom. The view of the forests and mountains from the balcony and outdoor shower is breathtaking.
Sue’s welcome when we arrived was excellent. She was very friendly, accommodating and gave us plenty of info about the hikes you can do right from your cabin; you don’t even have to drive anywhere!
We felt safe and at ease throughout our stay.
I love that the owners recycle and request organic waste from food scraps be kept for their compost heap and chickens.
You experience bird life and birdsong right from your balcony. Knysna loeries came to visit a few times.
Good wifi.
There is a solar jar and torch on the key in the event of loadshedding.
PLENTY to do and see in the area and surrounding towns.
There is an awesome pool and play area available.
The best part of visiting Moonshine is that you have almost private access to Whiskey Creek! A short and well-marked hike through a beautiful forest takes you down to the creek. Here you find a lovely stream that leads you to a natural pool and waterfall! That was such a treat! I wish we had warmer weather as I would have liked to stay there the whole afternoon!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Moon Shine on Whiskey Creek comes highly recommended, especially to nature lovers!
The Cons and suggestions:
I’m not a fan of removing trees, though I feel like the view from the cabin could be cleared up a bit.
At night you can hear trucks passing by on the N2.
Some boards against the cabin (I assume for waterproofing), can do with a lick of paint or a cover of sorts.
The mirror over the sink and showerhead are very low and a bit awkward for taller people.

We were blown away by our hosts friendliness and the cleanliness of Butterfly cottage, our home for 7 nights. The rest of our family stayed in Tree Frog forest cabin which was also very clean and absolutely beautiful being high up in the forest trees. This was just what we needed after such a challenging year! There are no faults to Moon Shine! What I also loved was the ability to continue our recycling, that rain water was the water used, with filtered, fresh water available from a separate tap in the kitchen, and lastly, that all food waste was collected to feed their chickens. Showering in the beautiful Gaudi-esque shower was simply wonderful. We will be returning!!!! Thank you Albert & Sue for sharing your dream special place with us! Grant & Tracy

It was our peaceful encounter with nature after many hardworking days inland. We were looking for an adventure and needed to get closer to nature. There's nothing like going off grid but still feeling like your at home and comfortable. Our Treehouse was just the adventure our family of 5 needed. Beautiful views of birds and mountains, Hiking down to the waterfall was really fun and the kids enjoyed the play area on the premises, Albert and Sue are amazing hosts with a detailed welcome I felt I was in safe hands. They thought about everything a family with young kids need to have an awesome adventure.
Thank you Albert and Sue for your hospitality and care. Oh and the amazing sweet chilli sauce 😉

Very spacious house and a lovely stay. Our children also loved it and all the board games in the cupboard were a real bonus! The cottage feels fresh and welcoming and is very original. Unfortunately, the mattress in the double room wasn't comfortable sleeping. I would suggest having more tea/kitchen towels provided as one is not enough if you stay with a family with all the dishes that go with it ;)

It felt like we had left reality and did fly to the moon. We spent five nights in this handcrafted cabin; you can see and feel the love that went into building this quirky, cleverly designed space that feels like a luxurious treehouse. Thoughtful and well-equipped, whist crisp, clean linen and the best views. I especially enjoyed lying in our cosy cabin gazing away at the stars. Sue and Anton are experienced and warm hosts; you are sure to enjoy complete privacy and comfort in a safe and immaculately clean, beautiful space.

My family and I stayed in the family sized cabin. The kids loved the bunk style beds and the main bedroom has the most gorgeous view of the forest
The shower room is beautiful.
The host is lovely and very helpful. Moonshine is in such close proximity to various attractions that we were spoilt for choice

These self catering log cabins in the forest are a great place to unwind and relax. There is a hike down to the river, pool and falls for the fitter people. There are also great places nearby for breakfasts and lunches as well as wine estates (check days open), so you do not have to cater all meals. The sunsets and sunrises are something else. Please remember it is a forest so there are the associated insects.

We stayed in a tent overlooking the river. It was lovely hearing all the birds, the water babbling and watching the ostriches coming to drink just opposite us. It was tranquil and peaceful. Our accommodation felt luxurious, the breakfast was a treat with the variety of food and drink. Our grandchildren loved the play area, pool and animals. We would definitely return again.
