Detailed Reviews
We had a lovely stay at the Lily Pond Lodge. The location is great for different adventures and to discover the nearby national park. The breakfast was great and our hosts organized a lovely New Years Eve dinner which made the experience even more special.
The only (small) negative point was the welcome on our first day. The staff was not overly friendly and wasn't able to answer our questions for hiking routes etc. However, during breakfast at the next morning we received all the information we needed.
A negative surprise was that everything (even the little bottle of water in the fridge) was chargeable. Furthermore, the wifi did not work at all (not even at reception). The internet connection was not even strong enough to send a Whatsapp message. For a faster connection you had to buy a voucher at reception.

Dear Hanna, Thank you for your review and good to hear you enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner. I would like to comment on your feedback. I will speak to Mali who was the one that welcomed you, but not sure what other staff wasn't friendly. However he is our waiter and not the right person to ask about trials, hiking routes or local tips. He should have revert you to the me, Margret or Carol from the reception. As far as I remember we have given you quite some information in the morning and the days during your stay. There is also local information in the room folder. Furthermore the bottle water in the fridge is a standard 1 liter bottle and is part of the minibar. It is not uncommon that you are charged for items used from the minibar. The prices are also mentioned on the little price list next to this minibar. You also mentioned that "everything was chargeable", but cannot think of what.. besides the minibar, massages or the restaurant. With regards to internet this is not always in our hands. We have the fastest package available in this area and as explained in the room folder you can't compare our internet connection that transmits via a dish to the mountain with an ADSL or fibre optic cable connection. We do not have that here.... This is a disadvantage, but there are in my opinion more advantages than disadvantages of being in a rural area! Also, during the Festive Season the number of tourists in our area increases with more than 400% and they all use internet, so the bandwidth is simply overloaded. I don't understand your remark about a voucher for faster internet as we do not give out any vouchers as internet is free and guests as well as we us the same hotspot connection. Sure the speed went up and down this period of the year, but we also send and receive emails or Whatsapp's and this was always possible. I'm really sorry that you experienced these things, but still hope to welcoming you again to Lily Pond. Kind regards, Niels

We had the most wonderful time at Lily Pond Country Lodge! We came to spend 4 days there and decided to extend after the first night. The whole lodge is beautiful, in a great location, in the middle of the countryside, but still close to do lots of things (hiking, canoeing, zipline tours, horse riding, see animals, beach, Plettenberg,...). But it is also so beautiful there in the lodge that you just want to stay in the lodge! Niels and Margret are such attentive and great hosts, we immediately felt super comfortable. The breakfasts and dinners there are fabulous and we can only recommend everyone to experience the dinners there - we were already looking forward to it in the morning. Charming all round, we will definitely be back!

Dear Theresa, Thank you so much for your great review and comprehensive feedback. So very welcome especially now that we again have to deal with a travel ban from the rest of the world. I'm so glad that you managed to enjoy our area and that we were able to let you feel comfortable. I will tell Margret about your positive dinner experience.... I hope you will think about your South African holiday every year you celebrate your honeymoon/wedding. Margret and I look forward to welcoming you again when back in SA.

This is a visually stunning resort set in the beautiful water garden, with infinity pool, and located in the amazing Plettenberg Bay Area.
Service was exemplary and all staff were friendly and approachable, were knowledgeable about the local area and what it offers. Excellent breakfast included continental or full English (included in my package) while dinner included vegetarian menu and again of excellent standard and reasonably priced.
This is an intimate, quiet and grown-up resort, which reflects both owners and staff’ attention to detail.

What a beautiful setting - huge pond, huge garden, trees forever, bird life and singing frogs - and no traffic noise of course. The accommodation was spacious, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and sooooo comfortable and peaceful. Niels and Margaret , the owners/managers were charming, attentive and passionate about their work. I had dinner there every night and the food was superb. It is ideally located right next to the hugely popular Natures Way farm stall and it’s just a few minutes drive from the Crags wine farms. It’s proximity (a 10 minute breathtakingly beautiful drive) to Nature’s Valley and its lagoon, beach and forest walks makes Lily Pond an ideal location for a holiday destination. This place is a winner. I will be back soon for another dose of paradise.

If you want a truly relaxing and restful place to stay with exquisite food, then this is the place to come! This tranquil location is also perfect for nearby attractions such as nature’s valley beach, tsitsikamma national park, monkey land, birds of Eden etc. The lily ponds and surrounding gardens are stunning - the perfect antidote! The rooms are large with individual patios from where you can look over the lily ponds enjoying a nice sundowner. The staff are super friendly and helpful with information on what to do and where to go. The food is delightful, with 4 course meat and veggie option every evening. The chef comes out at the end of the evening to chat to all the guests and ensure everything is ok. The only slight negative we found was the strange open plan bedrooms with integrated bathrooms - it made using the toilet interesting!

Dear Short_Scuba_Diver Thank you for taking the time to write a review and share your experience with us and future guests. It brings us so much joy to receive such a great review and that you enjoyed your holiday stay with us, the Chef will be extremely pleased to hear that you enjoyed his cooking. Regarding the slight negative experience with the open plan bedroom/bathroom, these are only in our Garden Rooms, which is 4 out of our 10 rooms. For your next visit if booking direct or through an agent you can request any of the following room types Luxury Suite, Luxury Garden Suite or Superior Suite as these rooms all have private toilets. We hope to welcome you back in the near future! Warm regards Bronwan Hutchinson General Manager

Lily Pond is quite simply one of the best places we have ever stayed. Niels and Margret are fantastic hosts and are always willing to talk about their local area. Our room was large with a fantastic view over the Lily Pond. The bed was big and oh so comfortable and the bathroom had a bath and large shower. We were met by Joseph who is a truly delightful young man, very professional but with a great sense of humour. The grounds are beautiful with a pool and fantastic flower beds and of course the Lily Pond. As people have said it is a little remote so we booked the evening meal for all 3 nights. The dining room is really well appointed and the food was incredible, including a starter and a steak up there with the best dishes we have eaten. Angel your culinary skills are amazing. Thanks also to Mali who kept the drinks flowing. Yes of course there is an excellent choice of wine.
Breakfast was outside and again a wonderful array of continental and cooked options all served with a smile. Don’t miss the journey to the beach or to Titsikhama, for the brave the highest Bungay Jump is near by. You can also visit the lovely Plettenberg Bay. The icing on the cake was driving away in a spotlessly clean car. Thanks to everyone at Lily Pond, I hope we will be back.

The lodge is conveniently located close to Nature's Valley beach and also not too far from Plettenberg Bay. We especially enjoyed the quiet atmosphere at the lodge, the wonderful and spacious rooms and the wonderful hosts! Also, we were quite surprised by the exceptional quality of the evening meals that can optionally be enjoyed at the lodge.
Due to its own power supply the lodge is not affected by the power cuts that seem to be happening quite frequently and can be quite a nuisance.

Lily Pond is beautifully designed and surrounded by gardens, lawns and indigenous forest belonging to the Lily Pond property. The suites are immaculate and spacious each with its own patio. The owners, Niels and Margret, comply with all the Covid regulations now in place which is most important to us during these unsafe times. Margret is the chef at Lily Pond and creates the most delicious 4 course meals at dinner time which is served by Niels in the dining room. Breakfast is on the large patio outside. We enjoyed our stay and will be back to explore more of the Natures Valley area.

Dear Sheila & Walter, Thank you so much for your great review and comprehensive story to describe your experience at Lily Pond. Yes, it is like when we just started 18 years ago with no staff, Margret in the kitchen and me as novice waiter. Although the times for the hospitality industry is tough we still enjoy our "job" and it is sometimes good to step back and realize how valuable staff is.... We both looking forward to see you again at Lily Pond in January or February. Kindest regards, Niels

I had originally given a 4 star very fair review to this hotel. I stated that we wouldn’t return because we didn’t like the open plan room/bathroom I was not aware that not all rooms were open plan but then how would I know . I also noted that all the other hotels that we stayed at bottled water was complimentary. All my other comments were good saying how good the staff were and how lovely the grounds were I also said that we appreciated the fact that as we left early they made us up a breakfast to eat on our journey as breakfast was not served until 8am. I was emailed by the owner asking me to leave a trip advisor review which I had already done , what I didnt then appreciate wasreceiving an email from the owner picking out the 2 comments he didn’t like and pulling me up on them. Not once did he mention the compliments I had given. He said I should have spoken to them while there , we were told the owners were away . Anyway we won’t be returning here which is a shame as all the other hotels that we did visit we would . I think the owner needs to learn to take constructive criticism . I’m left a bit miffed I always review our stays and am very fair I think 4 star was good but I have downgraded this now to a 2 star as I’d hate for other people to be contacted by the owner in the same way.

Hi Wendy, I would like to respond to your comments. I only responded to your review on Tripadvisor and Nightsbridge and did not take any initiative to send a direct email to you. However, that response was not published on Tripadvisor! In that response I only explained that we have other rooms without an open bathroom configuration and also explained the reason why we charge for water as we have drinkable tap water. In my reply I also mentioned that if the bathroom is the reason, you should not return to Lily Pond, I invite you to come back to show you our other rooms. Just like you I find it necessary that potential guests know what to expect and we always appreciate feedback from our guests as you can see in replies to other reviews. Kind regards, Niels

Our stay at the Lily Pond Country Lodge was just great. The whole staff was very warm and friendly whilst providing an excellent service. We had some wonderful chats with the hosts about this little paradise surrounded by lush green nature. The pleasant room with its comfortable bed and the design of the whole place created a very relaxed and beautiful atmosphere that invites you to stay. We simply loved it and can highly recommend it!

Dear Stefan, Thank you so much for your excellent review and motivating words for us and our staff, especially in this difficult time we are in. Our Staff are at home now because of the the lock down for the COVID 19 virus. We are now "defending" Lily Pond on our own. Maintenance and gardening is now done by ourselves, but that isn't bad job at all. Fortunately we are living in a beautiful area with plenty of space, so we can go out and do walks in our own garden/forest. We hope to welcoming you again as soon everything has passed and all is safe. In the meantime we keep LP up to date and ready for our guests as soon it is possible. Stay well and safe. Kindest regards, Niels & Margret (owners)

Hi febee,
Sorry for the late response as I picked it up only now.
Most of our guests stay for dinner at our restaurant, but we also accept people from outside. Compared to Europe prices are very reasonable in SA, but it depends where you eat.
Regards,
Niels
There might be a step to negotiate somewhere, but I doubt it would be a problem. Staff is kind and helpful to all.
