Amazing restaurant's and farmstalls nearby with real food! Perfect stop over and stay or getaway / base to explore from. Great location with great views. Incredibly helpful hosts to boot! Will definitely be back to this very clean and neat establishment!

We stayed 2 nights at this location and wished we could stay longer! The friendly owner Gert Jan made us feel so welcome and was super patient in providing all the information we wanted. Since the place has only been open shortly and there are no reviews on TripAdvisor yet i try to give a impression of our experience. Property and location The property is located just 10 minutes drive on a dirt road from the small Kurland community. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, super quiet and peaceful with breathtaking views over a nice valley. The free roaming chickens add up to the experience. There is a small super clean swimming pool with sunbeds and 2 ponds. The property is huge and even has its own small (300m) trail into the valley.  The location is super close to multiple highlights like the Birds of Eden (very recommended), the elephant sanctuary, Monkeyland, Tenikwa wildlife centre and Nature's Valley (all within 15 min drive). There are even several small wine houses closeby witch might be open for lunch (closed when we passed by unfortunately).  There is a small but good selection of restaurants. We went to the Peppermill twice and recommend this gladly.  Appartments There is a main house with with 2 separated apartments (private bathrooms but shared kitchen and lounge). We had a private apartment with living, open kitchen, bathroom with toilet and shower and separate bedroom. All very neat and clean with a simple colourful decor. Plus is that this place has is own backup during loadshedding, so always electricity. For water they have filtered rainwater and water from their own dam. Breakfast, drinks, food Breakfast was provided but self service. The fridge was stocked with everything you need to prepair your own breakfast; bread, yogurt, cruesli, milk, cheese, butter, jam, ham, bacon and eggs from their own chickens. There was tea and fresh coffee (french press, for me a big plus against the usual instant coffee!). Big surprise was a great selection of wines and nice local beers in the fridge as well. This was actually so much that we had to remove some so we could put our own stuff in! As well there were some snacks provided. There is a big braai at the main house (free for al visitors to use and wood (free of charge!) provided to us. Also we were provided a small bbq we can use at our own terrace and even charcoal was included (this was left by other visitor he said, no future guarantee).  Minor complaints?  There is always room for improvement: - the curtains don't block any light. This is a regular complaint in SA. Didn't bother us because of our daughter who is up early anyway. - another common complaint; why are there never cushions on the sunbeds in SA? - Free roaming chickens leave their mess everywhere, also on our own terrace and table. The owner cleaned this btw and didn't bother us.  - maybe a pair of scissors in the kitchen? In summary the downsides are minor and didn't bother us, we enjoyed our time very much, so 5 stars from us!
