We very much enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was very good, the staff friendly, and the area is a great place to stay on Sun Moon Lake. When we visited, tourism was way down due to Covid 19. We felt the hotel had all the needed safety protocols in place, and did not let the lack of guests reduce their level of service. It was everything we expect from a highly rated hotel.

The village of Ita Thao has a lot of indigenous charm, and nearby attractions like the Culture Park and Gondola are worth a visit. There is some construction on the waterfront currently.

This is a very small hotel. We paid for a lake view room and the view was great. Room felt a little dated, but clean. The breakfast has limited choices for western food, but the lake view is great from the breakfast area, which creates a relaxing experience. It is located on the opposite side of the lake to the main transportation in and out of sun moon lake. In my opinion, the best services and bike rental companies are on the opposite side of the lake. The bus and ferry that service around the lake stops at 5pm, so you need have your own transportation or use a taxi. There looked like there was a lot of watercraft rental at this side of the lake and there is a small night market (go early as it mostly shuts down by 8pm). Overall, I felt the hotel was ok, wrong location for me and a little overpriced.

Do not judge the hotel by its outlook.
It wasn't outstanding at all from the outlook, however, I was filled with surprises when I entered the hotel.
Staffs were extremely friendly and helpful, and as I couldnt really decide what to do for the day, they were there to advise us accordingly.
Room is extremely CLEAN!!
Worth for the price that I paid for.
Dinner set meal was yummilicious~~

The hotel is right on the lake, the next time I will pay extra for a lake view. The rooms are very well equipped and tasteful. Our package included dinner and we were both very surprised at the quality. Also the staff could not do more to help.

So we like 4-5 star hotels but the 2 hotels that we really liked around Sun Moon Like but they were way out of our price range unfortunately so we settled with The Crystal, a fine looking 4-star property.

Our room is amazingly spacious with an outside terrace. The staff is friendly and very helping. But don't be fooled by the hotels 'we are part of luxury hotels' website. It looks a lot different in real like then shown. Although it is perfectly fine, do not expect a luxury property. It is outdated, bit run down 3-star hotel at best.

One scary lift, not a real bar, restaurant closed, breakfast is meh, observervation deck is a joke, room decoration is outdated etc. I do not mind all this, but expectations looking at the website were a lot higher, so that leaves you disappointed.

Staff is polite but the whole hotel needs a major upgrade to make it a 4-star hotel.

This hotel is located right in front of the lake with beautiful views. Rooms were comfortable and spacious for 2 adults and 2 young kids (under 3) with one king size bed and a baby cot. The hotel also provided us with a baby bath tub. The room came with a choice of a oriental or international breakfast set menu. The hotel is also conveniently located close to food options and a 7-11. An enjoyable one night stay at the lake!

Stayed two nights .Our room was facing the lake view. King size bed. Toilet most interesting with heated seat most needed during winter.
Service is very good
The dinner meal provided is beyond expectation, esp 4 entrée before main meal for western and 8 course for chinese meal the next day. Customer service staff are all very friendly.
Convenient with street stall just at door steps and the lake is just downstairs.
Very quiet at night.
We rented dvd for kids entertainment.

I was utterly misled by the pictures shown in the hotel website - my fault actually. I had mistaken that the little resting area at the harbour overlooking the lake was PART of the hotel, but it was not. I had wrongly assumed that this hotel had a proper driveway for cars, but no. The lobby was so much smaller than what was shown in the photos. We wrongly assumed this was a large hotel. Our fault.

On the plus side, the room we had was huge. Shower facilities provided were good and the hotel even provided a small hair tye + floss! Thumbs up for that!

Internet was always cut off intermittently. The carpets were stained. You can still see dust particles at the top of the bedframe.

Overall, it is a pretty okay hotel, but I was looking for those opulently luxurious ones so this did not meet meet my expectations. The price paid for this room was not cheap either: the most expensive out of all the rather top-end hotels I booked for the 6 nights in Taiwan (including at central Taipei). I wanted another hotel at the other end of the lake but that was fully booked during my stay.

At Sun Moon Lake we had reservations at the Crystal Resort, located in Rihyue Village. It is a small luxury boutique hotel with only 20 rooms, There were three couples in our group and we had booked two lake-view and one interior room. They have were very beautifully appointed rooms in general, with maybe a tad too many mirrors to create the feeling of spaciousness. From the lake view rooms the breathtaking vistas mirror the serene beauty of the lake, especially in the misty mornings. And the marvelous panorama can be enjoyed, even when you are lying in bed. The interior room, on the other hand, only looked out at the walls of the adjacent buildings, just a few feet away, giving the room a very constricted feeling; but it was some 40% less expensive. Take the lake-view rooms and enjoy life.

For the lake view room, the price we paid was US$310/night, which is pricey for Taiwan, but actually about the same for similar lodgings in other fancy resorts in the world. But here the price includes half-board. They also have WiFi in the rooms. The staff may sound a bit formal and aloof at check in, but they are actually very good and most helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. And after chatting with them for a while, they were very pleasant and friendly. This is maybe partly cultural.

There are two main ferry terminals in Sun Moon Lake; the tranquil one is located just outside the hotel. The other one is located at the other side of the lake and it is quite busy because of the many larger hotels situated there. There is, therefore, not that much traffic around our hotel.

The hotel is located in a small friendly village, with obviously strong overtones for the tourist trade, but not overbearing so. There are little shops selling products and snacks from the region. You can get the colorful costumes of the local aboriginal Thao tribe, fruits, the very good local teas, and crisp, deep-fried small fish and shrimps for snacks. There are small restaurants and eating places catering to the visiting tourist.

Dinner at the hotel was an amazing multi-course presentation. The menu of the gourmet dinner is shown below. In addition to the 6 of us, we had two couples, business associates from Taiwan, as guests for dinner, and even they approved of the quality. The only problem I had was with the crabs; they looked beautiful, but they hardly had any meat.

We booked this hotel through one of the popular hotel booking sites. We booked and were charged for a Dawn Double Room featured with views overlooking the city. This is what our confirmation told us.
The room was comfortable, however the views overlooking the city happened to be the wall of the building next door.
When we queried with reception we were advised that the hotel was fully booked and they basically disinterested.
In fact, I found the reception staff in particular standoffish and rude with no interest in customer relations.
