Detailed Reviews
Our stay in the Buttercup was not planned and very unexpected. This because the guesthouse where we actually booked a night didn't show up so we didn't had a place to stay.
It was already around 6.30 pm and we were driving around in Stilbaai searching for a place to stay... Suddenly one of us saw the sign 'buttercup guesthouse'. We were so lucky because Eveleen (the hostess and owner) was standing outside talking. We explained her our adventure that the other guesthouse where we booked didn't show up. Eveleen told her that she just came back from a trip and that she was still closed...but...of course we could sleep in her guesthouse. It wasn't a problem. She opened the doors for us and took the time for us. We were so happy! We could stay in her guesthouse for the night.
Our stay was really incredible. Besides the nice view, the beautiful guesthouse and her kindness she also repairs a short from my partner so late at night. She shows us where we could have dinner and asked the time for breakfast. We were so surprised that morning because the breakfast was phenomenal. The table was beautiful covered and the food delicious. She explained nice routes to drive via Witsand. She was very interested in us and we were sad we had to leave.
If you search for a very good guesthouse! No doubts....the buttercup is fantastic!!

We have been returning to The Buttercup annually for the past five years. The charming proprietor, Eveleen, is always at hand and nothing is too much trouble for her. We stayed in the downstairs room, which has its own lounge/kitchen and outdoor seating area and views over the sea/river mouth. The room is clean, comfortable and spacious, with bath and shower. The location is fantastic (shame we missed the Whales this year). A great place to relax and unwind. Highly recommended.

The stay in the buttercup was perfect. We had a room with river and ocean viem, but I think all rooms have this view. Eveleen (the owner) was a very friendly and helpfully woman. The rooms were furnished so affectionately and comfortably. We would have remained gladly longer. When we will stay in Stillbaai again, so we live in the Buttercup.

My wife and myself recently spent some time at a little jewel of a B&B.
As very seasoned guesthouse users, I was blown away by the overall experience at the Buttercup. Eveleen is a personality rarely found nowadays, and she made our breakaway something very special. Her attention to detail and effortless ability to make us feel totally at home is extremely rare and a wonderful gift few posess. There was a special something that placed the Buttercup apart from the norm, it was a touch of class without pretentiousness that made us appreciate the time we had at this SUPERB establishment. Wonderfully comfortable beds, space, excellent breakfast, stunning views, special touches like the gown and slippers and of course the personality of Eveleen herself makes this a package that I can totally recommend.
There is of course Stilbaai itself, really interesting, amazing whale watching, picturesque views and clean and safe with restaurants that is not tourist traps with customary rip-off pricing.
Will we go back - ABSOLUTELY!

We just spent the most amazing three days staying with Evaleen at The Buttercup. The warmth of the welcome showed to myself and my wife still resonates. Beyond the beautiful beachfront setting, the lovely home filled with exquisite antiques and treasures, the fabulous breakfasts and the sensation of being lulled to sleep by the sound of the rolling surf was the kindness shown to us by our host. From helping with sightseeing and restaurant advice to looking after our laundry we were pampered and spoiled by Evaleen. We truly felt part of the household for our short stay and cannot say enough about the quality of the accomodations and how well we were treated. I have no reservation in highly recommending The Buttercup to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday in stunningly beautiful surroundings.

A friend and myself had a wonderful 4 night stay at The Buttercup during December 2012. We rented the Deluxe and the Beige Room which was on the ground floor, both rooms had access to an adjoining kitchen/ living room which created a wonderful living space for us, it also had a lovely outdoor patio area with views of the river and sea, it was peaceful and private. The rooms were equipped with all you might need and everything was perfectly clean. The owner is a wonderful friendly lady that made us feel most welcome and served delicious breakfasts every morning. Room service was superb! We had a great 4 days stay at The Buttercup and its river/beachfront location was an extra bonus. For anyone with a preference for a comfortable and value for money stay over, The Buttercup comes highly recommended. I will most definitely return for another visit.

We had good, clean and quiet rooms with beach view and a big veranda. But the price was not clearly communicated so we ended up paying more than we calculated.
Breakfast was good and we had a list to choose from what we would like.

We stayed one night here in late January. Made to feel very welcome and Eveleen even appeared with freshly baked Ginger Biscuits. Location is excellent for walks on the beach just across the road. Everything provided in very comfortable room even towels for the beach. Breakfast served overlooking the sea and was excellent. Highly

Stilbaai is a long way from the N2 highway, but is a delightful spot and together with The Buttercup is very well worth the trip. Unfortunately the proprietor was unavoidably away, but her friend, although clearly unused to the business, made us feel very welcome and coped admirably. We wish that we had allowed more time since the area is very beautiful (had we realised that there are golf courses there we would undoubtedly have booked for longer!) The accommodation is excellent, breakfast great - and the whole area is wonderfully peaceful - what more could we ask for?

One goes to a B&B for a different experience to an hotel.
Eveleen Nel, the proprietor of The Buttercup and her selfless, unobtrusive staff, worked very hard to give us a sincere and personal "home away from home" experience. We loved it! We stayed in the Blue Room upstairs-clean, well appointed and large enough for the two of us. The linen was always spotless and white, the towels clean and fluffy. The room gives access to a lounge and a large balcony with a terrific view of the river mouth, sea and beach for miles. The downstairs rooms are a little larger although we opted for the upstairs view. Children are not catered for.
Eveleen's personal touch is always there. The breakfasts are quite marvellous.
In addition she has contacts with the local eateries for lunch or dinner and even makes the bookings! What was special was when we did not want to eat out for supper, she set places for us on the balcony to enjoy a quiet self-catered dinner looking over the sea. Extra service indeed!
A B&B provides a personal experience.
As South Africans, The Buttercup is one of the best we've stayed in in South Africa!
The overseas guests we met there were most complimentary too.
