This is a gem! Our travels were made significantly more pleasurable as we could rest comfortably with our five large fur babies. The large room is definitely 5 stars and boasts a lovely courtyard that is sectioned off - which was exactly what we need for our five fur babies. I was most impressed that a huge bowl of fresh water was already waiting for our babies and our hosts took the time to welcome us and provide us with information on the town. The room is super clean and fresh. Our stay was most wonderful. Thank you so much for hosting us.

The Barracks was in a lovely location, literally a few steps away from the Innie Kraal restaurant which lived up to its high recommendation. The bed at the Barracks was warm and comfortable and the bathroom had a large shower as well as a divine bathtub if you want to soak in hot water. The host very kindly provided a selection of teas and coffee with rusks. There was also a tv with a few channels to watch. Off street parking and a beautiful garden along the way to the rooms was delightful.

We stopped over on our way down to Cape Town. Despite challenges with loadshedding, our hosts Mike & Annalie were very attentive and provided us with a very tasty dinner on the evening of our arrival and a hearty breakfast the next morning. Emergency lights were provided in the bedrooms and Mike ran the generator in the evening and early morning. Excellent shower!

If you are travelling to Cape Town or the Garden route, we can highly recommend The Barracks in Colesberg.
Excellent hosts consistently going the extra mile.
They have also installed Solar Power, so customers have access to electricity.
The rooms are heated with additional electric blankets on the beds.
Great variety for breakfast ensures you are ready for the last leg of the trip.

We had a very comfortable stay. We were welcomed by Mike who guided us to our airy room with everything necessary for a restful stay. Supper was a short walk down the road in perfect safety to Inn Kraal and breakfas was served promptly at 6.30 - tasty and well prepared.

Perfect midway stop! I have been coming to Barracks for many years and it never disappoints. The rooms are simple but have everything you could need (dstv, aircon, big bathroom and comfy bed) but as an added extra each room has a small private patio under shady vines with a table and umbrella. The thoughtful water and milk in the fridge and rusks with the coffee are always appreciated. The best thing is that they are there to meet you after a long trip from Cape Town or Johannesburg with a smile and absolute efficiency. It is one road away from the main road so you can easily walk into the town and find one of the restaurants. Next morning, they are up early and ready to send you on your way with a smile. I just love it!

The facilities were excellent from all aspects. We were initially worried about the location within the town but it proved to be very well placed and convenient. The advice received from the owners also helped. What was very interesting was the excellent file containing notes and photos of the historical side of Colesberg in the Anglo-Boer war.

As usual, our stay at The Barracks was a pleasure. Especially after a long drive through the Karoo en route to Gauteng. Our room was comfortable, spacious and well appointed and the welcome sherry perfectly placed on our patio table was a lovely touch. Annalie and Mike are super knowledgeable and gracious hosts. For dinner, Annalie had prepared delicious Karoo lamb chops with roasted vegetables. I requested a “doggy bag” because the portions were so generous. I would never hesitate to recommend a stay at The Barracks. It’s a pity we could not stay longer. Thank you Mike and Annalie!

The WIFI was excelent, also in our room, dispite the thiks walls.
The host was very friendly and show us the building and our room.
The breakfast was super!!
We eat at Bordeaux restaurant, it was delicious and the outside space was very cozy.

We loved our overnight stay at The Barracks while on our honeymoon road trip. By the time we arrived in Colsberg, we were cold and exhausted and all we wanted was a warm meal, hot shower and a comfortable, cozy room and bed . . . The Barracks delivered! Mike was incredibly hospitable and friendly and showed us to our room and pointed us in the direction of a delicious, hot meal from Inni Kraal (a short walk from The B&B).
The room was absolutely perfect for a stay over. So warm, clean and comfortable and we had a really good night's rest there. We would definitely stay at The Barracks again when travelling to Joburg.

Sorry we are fully booked - try The Gables / Honeylocust / Die Kleipot / Merino Inn / Colesberg Lodge / Toverberg / Nana Rous / Annalien's Guesthouse - so far we have not had any cancellation notifications on the Tourism What'sup group

Thank you for your question - apologies for the late reply it seems like my previous responses did not go through (internet technology - eish!!)
We are enclosed by High palisade fencing, which gets locked at night – we endeavour to get all vehicles etc. inside the parking areas. Although parking is behind palisade fencing and with lockable gates we cannot guarantee safety.
