This stopover came highly recommended by a friend, and did not disappoint. Our room opened out into the magnificent gardens with the greenest of lawns and a view of the mountains and lake. The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. The lounge, patio areas and pool are lovely places to relax and the meals we hearty and beautifully presented. The wine each named after a famous racehorse with a story on the label was delicious. We took a stroll round the back to see the impressive stables with horses and foals in their paddocks.

It is our 3rd visit to Big Sky, the first time during winter season. This place has such a tranquility and beauty even in the dry winter season. Everyone here is so friendly and very professional. The rooms have this rustic wooden feeling and everything works just perfect. Just to sit on the terrace and sip on the glass of red wine whilst the boys are playing some tennis in the back. So relaxing. Watching the staff setting the dinner table while the fireplace cracks in the background. A definite return for us....

· The location setting and the views are absolutely incredible. The homestead is fascinating! The staff were extremely helpful & friendly. I loved the dogs wandering around amongst the guest, feels like home. The dining room and the food were amazing, compliments to the chef/s!! Communication with the property was excellent. A fabulous stop over!

Disliked · We were not so crazy about the outside upstairs standard rooms, although comfortable, the bed was amazing, and we had all we needed, I am not a fan of the open plan layout to the bathroom (just a personal preference) and the stairs were steep & slippery in the rain. .

In fairness I had booked the King Room but we had a date change and were not able to keep the room for the other night.

We were warmly welcomed by Manager Catherine on our arrival and shown around the imposing main house. Load shedding (scheduled power cut, a South African specialty) kicked in before we had settled in, but this did not effect the hot water supply, and after the generator was switched on, wifi was freely available. Dinner followed shortly aftwards in front of a blazing fire, and was delicious. Next morning after breakfast we went for a long walk around the farm, seeing many indigenous antelope - a big plus. Lunch and dinner were again most satisfying, and the care taken of us by Monica in the dining room was exceptionally helpful. The venue is pet friendly, and there are many dogs on the property, all without exception sweet-natured. The ranch is a luxurious oasis in beautiful Karoo surroundings, and manager and staff are responsive and kindly. Strongly recommended.

Stop over on way back to Joburg. Staff very friendly. Not much to do there. No tour of the stables etc. Dinner was average set menu and just plonked down in front of you with no asking if you wanted etc. No non-alocholic beers. Breakfast, no buffet. Need generator for load shedding. Room was spacious but bathroom needs a facelift. Damp and paint peeling.

The room was lovely opening out onto a beautiful garden full of birds and trees. The home cooked dinner in the evening was delicious. Gabrielle looked after us beautifully so much so we wanted to stay on our return journey to Jo’burg but they were fully booked

Heaven on Earth!! A must stay ❤️ It was very cold and there was load shedding. We also had 4 Italian Greyhounds with us. They had no problem with them. The staff made us feel so comfortable. The room was wonderfully warm, even our towels were warm. The breakfast was tops. Will definitely stay there again. 10/10 for Big Sky Range.

An absolute gem. Very quiet and peaceful with beautiful views and stunning gardens.
The rooms are large and extremely well equipped and comfortable. The patio is large with stunning views over the gardens. The lounge, restaurant area is very comfortable with views over the pool and lake. There is an honesty bar that is well stocked. The food is superb.

Most fabulous solution to a stop over between Johannesburg and Plett/Cape Town! Family and dog friendly, beautiful setting, excellent food, very comfortable rooms on a stud farm. Beautiful surroundings and very accommodating staff and owners. What a treat to find a stopover that is a destination that we look forward to staying at in the Colesberg area. Next time we’ll book for 2 nights.

10/10 - Highly recommended

A big sky is only the start of it. From the warm and honest welcome, the stunning surroundings, to the beautifully appointed rooms, Big Sky Ranch has it all. It is the perfect 'stop over' venue, whether is one night or more. A well appointed honesty bar, plentiful food and friendly staff, it's well worth a visit..!!
