Welcoming was good and stay was welcome and warm. There was no soap in the bathrooms, and maybe a little fridge to keep our travelling food would have been nice. Food was excellent!! Although portions are very big, but very good value for money. The place still has a bit of a neglected look about it but since is it recently taken over I am sure that will improve.

After a long day of travel between Cape Town and Free State we once again booked in to SHEKINAH@ Orange Valley Guest Farm. We do an annual trip to the Eastern Free State in July and for the last 8 years we've stayed at here. Thana and André are certainly going to make a difference to this beautiful venue that is located in a tranquil part of the Gariep. Good food. Clean. Friendly and Pet Friendly - what more can we expect.

We didn't expect anything more than we received. It was just terribly hot and unfortunately the roof fan did not have any effect in the corner where the bed was situated. It could be nice to perhaps have an aircon in the room just to help with the heat.

We stayed here for one night on route back to Johannesburg on the 6th January 2016, from the moment we arrived I knew it was going to be a disappointing stay.

First of all the booking process was rushed and impersonal (it seems the original owners no longer stay on the property and have lost interest).

Upon entering the property, the was a clear sense of neglect, and that the good old days have come and gone.

The young lady that welcomed us on arrival was like a deer in the headlights, lacked experience and is far too timid to be involved in a hospitality role.

The room was average, the bedding was stained, dirty and stank of sweat, the hot shower water stank of sulphur.

The pool was heavily chlorinated, murky and full of leaves and insects.

The bar area was managed by a teenage boy that was shy and difficult to understand in both english and afrikaans, he also proceeded to pick his face whilst assisting us with drinks.

Dinner was average and more like canteen food from a school hostel rather than a hearty home cooked Karoo meal.

We decided to skip breakfast and left early to catch a bite at the Wimpy instead. All in all it was a very poor experience.

Do not let the website fool you into believing that you are booking into a warm, well managed Karoo establishment.

Staff is very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Real farm atmosphere with a touch of excellence. The food was excellent. Very neat and clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money.

After a short drive outside of Colesberg, into what seemed like the middle of nowhere, we found what is now known as Shekinah Guest Farm. Previously known as Orange Valley, the farm is now under new management.

The hostesses with the mostest award certainly goes to the new owner, Thana, who is quite easily the friendliest and kindest soul I have ever come across. Her lamb chops and malva pudding were a delight (Thana even accomodated for my friend's lactose intolerance!), all four of us went to bed satisfied.

The rooms are rustic and layers of sheets as well as a heater are sure to keep you and your beloved little doggos warm and comfy - yes they are pet friendly!

It's a pity we didnt stay longer, the round, stone-built braai and enclosed garden looking out over the valley was a definite treat. The guest farm is also the perfect spot for stargazing, and is soon to boast tented camp accommodation along the orange river too!

Watch this space! This family run business will surely put a smile on your dial, especially Thana and Andre's two young sons, who made very handy sue-chefs and waitrons. The most polite and welcoming stay we have had anywhere to date.

I found the owners the friendliest of all places during our trip. They did their utmost to accommodate our needs. The farm is situated 2 minutes from the dam wall and close to the N1. Will definitely recommend anyone travelling towards Cape Town or Gauteng.

The owner and her family are the most gracious of hosts, the fare is excellent, the location is great with a fantastic view, the rooms are comfortable & clean, but heat and the mosquitoes made it difficult to have a good night rest.

We were booked for two nights , and were given an extra night because it was my daughter's 11th Birthday. The two girls were treated like Royalty with their own waiter. Most enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Orange Valley.

"The family suite has two rooms, but only has fans, not aircon and a hand shower only. Other rooms do have aircon and showers."
