Kuilfontein has been offering hospitality to weary travellers for a long time and so they know the ropes. We had a comfortable well appointed room and delicious meals. The owners and staff are friendly and this is definitely a worthwhile watering point on the N1.

Nothing beats showing up to a self-catering unit that can accommodate my family of 5 easily, and our pup is always welcome. Pre-ordered meals are left in the room, as is breakfast for a departure time of your choice. Staff is on hand to deliver a beer or bottle of wine, payment possible by POS. Just amazingly well organized.

Wonderful place, warm and welcoming. Comfortable rooms and beds. Cozy dining room serving great meals (Don't order the salmon if you are dining late, it will come overcooked). We enjoyed a friendly atmosphere in a relaxed pub enjoying pre-dinner drinks. Really great family owned and managed place. Highly recommend.

We once agin stopped over at Kuilfontein, and due to Covid Lock down we were given the PADOCKs to stay in one of their self catering units. Large spacious and WARM. We did not realise the weather dropped to below 0. Once again a big thank you to the team.

We only stopped at Kuilfontein one night but it was a memorable visit. We had pre-booked dinner and were called in the day to ask our menu choice : we chose the Karoo lamb and it was fantastic. Our room was comfortable with a nice outdoor area. The bar and dining room are cosy and service was excellent. We wished we had booked to stay longer : it is a real gem!

We stayed in room 7 which was very private and the eclectic combination of colour and contrast accentuated the various pieces of furniture so well put together by someone with a good interior design eye. Patricia and staff were very friendly and fully competent and the owner interacted with us at dinner. The pulled Karoo lamb ( so called because of the plants they eat) was exceptionally tasty and tender with minimum fat and no bones. The creamy mint sauce infused with basil pesto was a nice change from the normal lamb accompaniment. The wine list was good and the estate and its history quite fascinating. A real jewel stopover between Durban and Cape Town. Leaving early we probably missed a scrumptious breakfast but were given a packet of "padkos" ( food for the road). Would stay again and book early.

The rooms are very nice, we had the family room - the bathroom could be bigger in this particular room, but we looked in the other rooms and the bathrooms were much bigger, so will choose a different room next time. We had a good nights sleep, was awoken by the cows mooing which was quite quaint. Very friendly owners and staff.
Food was really tasty, and farm fresh. Highly recommend for an overnight stay.

Thank you Jane! Unfortunately as they are old farm buildings, we are constricted to space. We hope to see you in the Green Karoo again!

Kuilfontein Stable Cottage brings you to a farm south of Colesberg.
The Stable cottages are named after the race horses which were bred here in the past and are furnished in a tasteful English style.
The farm is situated at a short distance away from the N1 Highway just enough distance not to be bothered by traffic sounds at all. The wide open spaces are impressive. The place is ideal if one would want to overnight on a trip between JHB and CT but not exclusively for that reason. Drinks are around the bar area and outside it, and dinner is home cooked style. Service is friendly and efficient. If travelling with a pet I would recommend being clear about that fact as there was some misunderstanding around this. I can warmly recommend this place which is more a home away from home than an impersonal hotel. I would definitely return.

This is the perfect stop over if you are driving from the Cape to the North. The converted stables make for lovely rooms and food is top notch. Beautiful venue in the magnificent emptiness of the Karoo. Snug bar with a welcoming fire and an attentive owner changes a stopover into an experience.

Absolutely loved Kuilfontein. They have thought of everything, every detail is covered to make a convenient overnight stop, but so comfortable that we could have stayed for longer. We preordered the lamb casserole which was ready and waiting to pop in the oven and it was delish!!

They provide dinner and breakfast which is included in your rate, good farm cooking. All rooms are pretty much the same but some bathrooms are bigger than others
