One of the best private campgrounds we've ever stayed in! Very well maintained with treed sites and hiking trails on the property. Very similar to Lake of Two Rivers campground in Algonquin Park, with tall pines and mainly dirt/sand campsites (not much grass). Pros - quick check in and friendly service throughout our stay - loved that there were very few seasonal sites and the ones we saw were well maintained, not junky like you see at some private campgrounds - premium RV sites were large and reminded us of being in a provincial park, and were fairly private - dry firewood delivered to our site shortly after we arrived - great location close to Dwight, lots of hiking trails in the area, and groceries and restaurants are not far - lots of recreation/games available... Mini golf course was small but well done and we had fun! - free concert in the field while we were there, really enjoyed his music Cons - no recycling available ?? - indoor pool was closed this year - but the building seems to be falling apart and the pool was dated - so unlikely we would have used it anyways

We checked in after office closing time of 6pm. In driving around the park, they were 1/2 empty so we picked a site F2, near the offices and would pay in morning as they have NO INFORMATION as to how to check in late NOT EVEN THEIR PHONE NUMBER IS POSTED ON THE OFFICE DOOR. We. Received a knock on our window at about 8:30 pm by 3 people, Who said that we were STEALING their site without registering they said we were THIEF’S, AS WE WERE STEALING THEIR SITE. in my last 35-45 years of camping I have pulled in late and paid the next day many times but this was the first time I was called a THIEF! If these people are so honest why did they charge me More than their POSTED RATES on the web site WHEN WE PAID IN THE MORNING and just give us a general receipt OF $60 plus tax, and not a camp site receipt for F2 power water site (ps we only used the power). In all our travels you have to meet some BAD PEOPLE 1and we met 3 of them Last nite when they knocked on our window, sham on you guys first for CHARGING MORE THAN YOUR WEB SITE SAYS (WHO IS THE THIEF HERE NOW) second for indicating we were thief’s for parking in your RV SITE BECAUSE WE HADEN’T REGISTER AND PHONED YOU. (Post a phone number on your door for late people checking in, there was at least two of us campers who checked in late I last nite, and THIS POST would note be here) JUST NOT A WAY TO MAKE FRIENDS WHEN YOUR IN BUSINESS, DON’T REFER TO YOUR G U E S T S AS STEALING A SITE. We offered to pay as soon as they came to the window, NOT A GOOD PLACE.

We went to Algonquin Pines Campground (it used to be called Algonquin Trails up to last year, new management as of 2020) last weekend, during Canadian Thanksgiving. We decided to stay there once we were unable get a spot in the Algonquin Provincial Park. I'm glad we did that. To start with, being a private park, you have a water tap for yourself, so we could hook it up to the trailer. Also, the provincial park had all showers closed this year due to Covid. The showers at Pines were open, clean and the water very hot. There's no sewer at any campsite but they have a dump station which you can use for free (if staying 3 or more nights). There's a nice trail within the park (30 minutes) where you get to a look-out at the end. Wi-fi didn't work well, I hope they can improve that. The playground area needs some urgent TLC for next year. Pool was closed this season due to Covid, hopefully it reopens next year. Sites could be more private, but I visited friends staying at the provincial park and I didn't find their site to be any more (or less) private than ours. The campground is 15 minutes away from West Gate, at Algonquin, where you can get a day pass to visit Algonquin Park. We went there on Saturday and did the very nice (but muddy) Booth Rock trail. Back to the campground, there are walking distance food options but we didn't use any of them this time. I would definitely go back to Algonquin Pines next year.

Firstly, a good campground should offer decent amount of privacy between campsites, either created by distance or shrubs. In the very least your neighboring trailer's awning area should not be facing yours. For this reason we were much disappointed as many sites have neighbors facing each other within close range, with unobstructed views of your neighbors. In all our camping years we never experienced this set-up. It may be nice for families/friends camping together to face each other, but not for anyone else. At least inform your campers of this setup upon booking and let your campers decide if this setup will be okay. Surprises upon arrival are never appreciated! Secondly, overall modern facilities (washrooms) and amenities (pool, mini putt, playground) are definitely lacking here to wish another visit. Painted & already peeling bathroom faucets and floors don't amount to renovated/ improved facilities. We have been to the Muskoka and Algonquin area over a dozen times, & this was the first campground we had complaints of. Sorry not for our family.
