If you are looking for peace and somewhere to unwind , then this is it.
Maliba lodge is set in a most magnificent location , in a verdant valley in the Ts'ehlanyane National Park. The rooms are in quaint thatched rondavels, which are comfortable , cosy and well furnished, with sublime views over the hills. The staff are very friendly . It is a perfect hiking environment, with paths ranging from "easy" to "sporty'. I can really recommend this lodge.

WOW...what a beautiful property and gorgeous setting. We drove the 4+ hours from Johannesburg to Maliba. The border crossing with the proper car rental paperwork (extra documentation required!) was very easy as very few people were crossing the border. The website does not do justice to this property - it definitely a stunning location, very relaxing with extremely friendly and helpful staff. We opted for the 5-star chalets which were very luxurious...only regret is we stayed 2 nights...it would have been perfect for a 3 night stay! The staff informed us that they are adding a few more chalets to the property which should be open in 2020!

We stayed in one of the river chalets, which is very spacious (four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms) and comfortable and features a full kitchen. The views from the patio and the upstairs windows are unbelievable. A quick hike up the river revealed a lovely river pool for swimming. The river chalets are a bit separated from the rest of the lodge, but the staff was very accommodating and arranged a van to bring us home after dinner, as we didn't have a car. The views from the lodge on the mountain are also unreal; great vistas for some pre-dinner drinks. And then dinner was really delicious and the service was exceptional and so friendly. Overall it was a lovely time, and I'd highly recommend it!

I am supportive of tourism in Lesotho, but have to report this isn't a 5-star lodge. It has not been maintained, e.g., weeds in the planter boxes; old, rain-soaked, faded outdoor cushions; outdoor furniture in need of varnish, and no internet the first day and a half. And I realize it's a remote location, but many of the lunch items were not available, and only one fixed menu was served at dinner. The food was okay and lunch was cheap, but anything served in the lower dining room was really overpriced. The continental breakfast, even if you did not order a hot meal was about $30 USD per person. The trails and the rock pool were very beautiful but the lodge itself sadly isn't up to par.

The views from the chalets are breath taking, exactly like the pictures, this place is beautifully peaceful. However, service is not 5 star, far from it. The food is terrible and there are very limited options and flexibility on the menu. The cost is exorbitant which is disappointing as you really don't have alternatives. Furthermore, the wifi was down when we arrived (End December) and we were told that it was being worked on. The wifi was not fixed and I was told by someone who had traveled to Maliba in early November that the wifi had been down since then. Also, the staff would not let us leave because they had not received email confirmation that our bill was settled...did I mention the wifi was down...a comedy of errors really

The only five star aspects of the hotel are the rooms and the location. All the rest is absolutely far from any five stars parameter. Service is slow and poor, personnel is lazy and restaurant it's absolutely anonymous with not even one single local recipe. Half of the wine list is not available as well as Lesotho local beer. I asked for some jam for breakfast and they didn't have! If you want a good Norwegian salmon, just order the trout, apparently is the same fish for them.
TV and telephone of the room don't work, wifi works only at the restaurant, is slow and expires every now and then. Quite scarse service to be a 5 stars.

I booked with booking.com and on checking out had a "trivago moment". We were charged ZAR 5,050 vs rack rate of ZAR 3,600 = 40% higher. I am happy to pay a little extra but not this. BC state that they match price but don't honour it. The hotel management in SA were not at all sympathetic - tough....Money is generally not an issue for me but I have being ripper-off. Ashley Naidoo at HQ said tough....When we arrived the hot water was not woking, DSTV disconnected; Power custard they insisted on charging for breakfast when it was meant to be included.

Response from MalibaHeadOffice, Manager at Maliba Mountain Lodge
Responded 09 Mar 2020
Dear Scott, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry you were unhappy with the rate you were charged for your stay. We do see you had made a booking through Booking.com in November 2019. Booking.com is a third party site which reflects difference rates from what we sell and are controlled separately by each company. We however have a fully-fledged website which offers direct online and email bookings at a cheaper rate and is not hidden from public viewing which can be compared when booking. Third Party Websites has the final say in changes to your booking and won’t offer us a discount if we reduced the price. I would suggest it is best to book direct with us or do comparisons with different sites to get the best rate. I am sorry to hear about Hot water and DSTV issues during arrival, this will be addressed by management to our staff.

This is a special place, 45 minutes up a largely paved road into the National Park. Our traditional thatched hut was very private with our own terrace, looking up the valley. Inside, the lodge w3 had a 4-poster bed, a jacuzzi bath with a view ( and a shower too), a TV, tea & coffee making and a mini-bar and a large fireplace for those cold nights (there were radiators too, an even underfloor heating in the bathroom).
In the main lodge they serve adequate breakfasts and excellent evening meals as well as coffee all day. The staff here are great too, very friendly and attentive. The whole lodge is really well run, it is easy to forget how remote it is.
We took the very interesting tour of the local community and we walked the trails up and down the valley. There is horse riding too.

Stayed for 4 nights at the lodge and loved it!
The lodges are wonderful, huge rooms with a bath with a wonderful view, outside seating and then a viewing platform just for you with views to die for! We also loved sitting by the fire in our room. Rooms beautifully done with huge beds. Very high quality and definitely worth the 5 star rating.
Service was good and food was good too.
The bar and sitting areas are lovely and again with views to die for.
Did quite a bit of horse riding, which was great and enjoyable and guide keen to make sure we enjoyed ourselves.
There as nothing about this place that we didn’t love and would definitely return.

Large luxuriously furnished chalets admidst the breathtaking landscape of the Tsehlanyane National Park. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff. Designated hiking trails of various levels of difficulties. Very good and visually appealing food.
In summary it can be said, a location to relax and simply unwinding.

Yes mostly the people visit are only day visits. Lunch orders took over a hour to serve so I advise you get early lunch time before it get busy. Mind you you we went at the weekend.
