Zebra Hills Safari Lodge is situated within the 23,000ha of the superb Big 5, Manyoni Private Game Reserve. It is the perfect family-friendly break-away for the discerning wildlife and bush-lover and also boasts more than 400 recorded bird species. There are 2 separate lodges, Main Lodge and Homestead, available for rent on a self-catered or catered (at an additional cost) basis at very reasonable rates. The two lodges can be rented separately or together. Main Lodge has 7 bedrooms with their own bathrooms, while Homestead has 4 with an additional 2 bunk bedrooms that are linked to two of the rooms for use as a family rooms. Every room is air-conditioned with its own bathroom facilities. Both lodges normally accommodate 10 guests each, with Main Lodge being able to sleep 14pax and Homestead 12pax, BUT please note that the game viewers can only accommodate a maximum of 10 people per lodge per vehicle. Our kitchens are a chef’s delight where you can prepare your own meal or make use of our excellent cooks to prepare delicious meals for you. Our bomas are perfect for sundowners or a braai and we even have our own wood-fired pizza oven inside the Main Lodge Boma. The expansive decks and bomas overlook a very busy floodlit waterhole that often teems with game including lion, buffalo and elephant. Each lodge has its own luxury safari vehicle and our rate includes two daily game drives, in the morning and afternoon with an experienced game guide. One of the biggest advantages of coming to Zebra Hills is that you don't have to share a game viewer with other guests and that you can dictate your own program. You don't have to go on a very early morning game drive if you don't want to. Plan your meals and the 2 daily game drives at the times it suits you best. Unlike most other Big 5 Safari lodges out there, our lodge is also child-friendly and we love having your children there as well. Facilities include 2 private net-covered swimming pools, a jungle gym and a sandpit. Zebra Hills is also a fantastic venue for an intimate wedding of up to 40 guests and business conferences of up to 20pax. We have a private venue situated on a hill overlooking the expanse of the Manyoni Private Game Reserve which is set up with modern equipment for conferencing, team building, etc. Please contact us for further information.

Zebra Hills is an absolute must for anyone who loves an incredible outdoor experience. We were blessed enough to have had our wedding there on the 27th of May 2023 and we are still in absolute awe of everything!

From the staff, the bedrooms, the food - literally everything is immaculate. We would recommend Zebra Hills to anyone, from a getaway to a wedding or even an event, as the owners and managers have gone out of their way to make it as comfortable as possible. Once you arrive there, you could not possibly need for anything.

The game drives are stunning and the guides are immensely well informed. You are guaranteed of a great sighting or two. While enjoying a fresh cup of coffee in the morning and a lovely sundowner at sunset. They are extremely organised and make sure that you are at a peak level of relaxation.

The rooms are impeccably dressed and the kitchens are equipped with anything you could think of.

Zebra Hills is and will always be one of the most amazing places to visit and now our most special day was captured there.

A special thank you to Noel and Miroda Otto, Tracy, Monique, Johan, Ryan and Wonderboy for all of your trouble, effort and straight up love for our beautiful day.

Monique did so much effort with our flowers and all of the things we did not get around to and the ladies just astounded all of our guests with the breathtaking food they prepared. Everyone is still talking about it to this day!

All of our guests felt like absolute royalty during our visit 🤗

Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.

We are so blessed!

Six of us , all pensioners, visited this wonderful game lodge for three nights. From the time we were greeted by Monique, Johan and their staff, we were treated like royalty. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, and the lodge has delightful outdoor and indoor eating places and Johan is great on braais. Game drives were brilliant and Johan is an ornithological expert There is a swimming pool which was a life saver with temperatures approaching 40 degrees. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend a visit to Zebra Hills. TonyC Howick

We recently celebrated our youngest daughter's wedding at Zebra Hills Safari Lodge, spending the entire weekend with our family and special guests. It was superb! From start to finish we were looked after and loved every minute. We so enjoyed the game drives, the boma dinner, the ceremony at a spectacular site in the riverbed , the canapes at Half lodge with its sweeping views and finally the reception at the lodge under the Marula trees with their twinkling lights. It was magical! The staff are friendly, efficient and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble - they were the cherry on top! I can't wait to go back.

I really don't know where to start, but the entire experience was amazing.Johan and Monigue are fabulous hosts, welcoming ,professional and charming. The accommodation is beautifully appointed, clean and modern with a classic touch. The staff who cooked for us,who serviced our rooms and even the grounds staff were all very pleasant. I was with friend of which a couple had a keen interest in birding of which I knew nothing about but now I'm interested. Johan is amazing in spotting, naming and explaining the various species of birds(he draws you in) to it.Outside of that ,the selection of animals to see is great too.Ive never been to South Africa ,not to mind a game reserve but to see,Cheetah,Lions,Hippo,Elephant, and numerous other great creatures was to say the least exilerating. When I go back to S.A,il be back in Zebra hills and the Manyoni .What an experience and thank you all for the great memories.

What a distressing three days for Swiss, Spanish, German and South African tourists to the Zululand Rhino Reserve and its Zebra Hills Lodge on 6/7/8 April. Paying big five rates, our game viewing experience was negligible and when the occasional herd was found, they displayed highly agitated behaviour as they fled.

According to staff members, there is hunting on this concession when tourists are on site. We were told of of lion baiting for the benefit of visitors, and we arrived two days after three intense weeks of game capture which resulted in hundreds of animals being removed. Those left were petrified and evasive as the result of the helicopter round up. No wonder we had bad game viewing.

The Zebra Hills manager told me that this reserve as a money-making scam, and the Norwegian owner, who was present, showed little concern as nine guests walked out in disgust. Why did she have no compunction to book foreign guests for four nights knowing that their game viewing experience would be nil. Shame on these private land owners stripping their land of animals for auction while taking thousands of rands from visitors with no qualms. Of course they refused any refund for the night these nine guests did not stay there.

Forty minutes down the road, we enjoyed extraordinary game viewing five minutes from a lodge that thankfully took us in at the last minute. The contrast was startling to our international guests.

I call on the MEC for Kwazulu Conservation and Tourism to investigate the management board of Zululand Rhino Reserve. Surely this experience is not acceptable tourism practice in Kwazulu Natal?

Dear Victoria, It is with sadness that I read your posting. Clearly we are not able to control the game and although it would be fantastic to be able to show our guests game around each corner or under every tree there are factors such as long grass, weather conditions and the fact that it is impossible to cover the entire 22,000h in two game drives. I also am not sure how you can say you were here for three nights when in fact you were only here for one night. The Zululand Rhino Reserve is a lovely reserve and Zebra Hills is a super lodge as per the other guests comments. I will not go further into this as I am sure the majority of our reads can see that perhaps you do not appreciate the smaller and often more interesting animals, birds and such. There is not a reserve in the country I am sure that is able to show every guests the Big 5 in one nights stay. As for the rest, I am not even going to comment but rather leave it up to past and future guests to decide for themselves.

My family stayed at Zebra Hills this weekend and enjoyed warm hospitality, good food and beautiful surroundings. The setting is absolutely brilliant and the water hole attracts a steady stream of game, with a startling Buffalo party with a herd of around 100 mingling around the waterhole around sunset. Plenty of Rhino and other game gave an exciting reality of Africa to my children. Worthwhile visit - fantastic for families.
