We did have a bit of trouble locating Rhino River, as the gate and signage had recently been changed from the directions we had! But we managed to find our way there just in time to have a light lunch before our first game drive - when Kyle, our guide, very quickly located a lion family quite close to the lodge. As newbies to game drives, we were amazed - and a bit disturbed at the proximity when the lioness jumped up on to rocks at the same level as our open vehicle and less than a metre away! The lions were also in camp later that evening. But we were well looked after by Kyle and other staff and felt safe. Over the 3 days we stayed we saw lionesses with cubs, male lions, lions mating, elephants, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, impala, kudu, nyala, monkeys, wildebeest and waterbuck - all at quite close quarters, and rhino, hippo, brown hyena and many smaller animals and birds at more distance.
We found all the staff at Rhino River very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable with all we needed, and a big deck area where we could sit and watch smaller animals who visited the grounds. The three meals a day were very good, and are served in the central area where there is dining and lounge areas and a small, warm, swimming pool.

We spent 2 days here as a family and friends group of of 9 including a vegan, a vegetarian and someone celebrating their 70th birthday. The food was superb and the staff really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and accommodate our dietary requirements, baking vegan muffins, biscuits and melktarts for our daughter. The accommodation was perfect - Cottage, Homestead and one double room - with the cutest family of warthogs coming to drink and wallow in the water bath outside the Cottage. The game drives were fabulous - our ranger, Kyle, was both knowledgeable and personable and very good at following up leads to enable us to experience really wonderful views of cheetahs and lions. Definitely a game reserve to visit again.

We cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay at Rhino River Lodge and cannot recommend it enough!

From the first email to arrange booking, right until check- out, the staff were absolutely phenomenal, always going the extra mile. The attention to detail and personal touches made our stay extra special. There was no request too big and we were always met with a smile. Exceptional service from people who are clearly proud of where they work and passionate about their jobs.

Our guide, Hala, is an asset to the lodge! He was experienced and went out of his way to teach us about the bush, share his stories and made all our sighting dreams come true!

The accommodation is spotless, well equipped with amazing attention to detail. Honestly, we can’t fault it.

The food! Oh my goodness the food! Delicious, homemade and beautifully presented, each meal was a feast for the senses. The talented kitchen staff make magic from a little kitchen in the middle of the bush. You will not leave Rhino River lodge hungry!

Of course, travelling during the COVID pandemic may seem daunting but the team at Rhino River lodge is professional, safe and honours all regulations. They make sure guests are kept far apart from each other (we always had our own private dining area and never mixed with any other guests, giving us total peace of mind), there was always sanitizer available at every entrance, bathroom and throughout our rooms and the staff ALWAYS had their masks on.

A luxurious sanctuary that is a must for anyone.

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you and we will see you again… SOON!

Wow! What a gem of a bush experience. From Sharon's warm welcome on arrival until our departure 3 days later, we were treated like royalty. The food was 5-star and the staff who prepared it were an absolute delight. Bongani, our ranger, was outstanding, successfully tracking lion, cheetah and elephant and we were also fortunate to see black rhino. His stories on Zulu culture and tradition also kept us mesmerised. His sightings and knowledge of birds is also exceptional although we did find him the Narina Trogan!! Whilst the bulk of time is obviously spent with your ranger, mention must also be made of the very well presented and extremely polite cleaning staff.

There were two small negatives that have not detracted from our overall 5-star rating. The Wi-Fi didn't operate (some folk consider this a blessing and our only need for this was to keep the family back home updated with photos) and the family chalets have the main bedroom upstairs meaning a trek downstairs to the toilet during the night.

We will definitely be back.

Dear Peter It is so lovely to read reviews like yours! Thank you for sharing your incredible experience. It was an absolute delight to host your family on your getaway to Rhino River Lodge. We have since been able to (mostly) sort out our connectivity with our service provider so on your next trip you will be able to send as many photos as you would like to :) On your return trip, may I suggest enquiring about the Homestead or the Cottage? They are spacious 2 bedroom houses and each bedroom has it's own bathroom, and outdoor showers for you to enjoy. They are definitely our popular choice amongst family travellers. Hoping to see you soon for another safari adventure. Safe travels, Rhino River Lodge Manager

We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. Beautiful reserve, staff were fantastic. We had a en-suite double luxury room which was stunning and provided us with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and snacks ! Our ranger Kyle was honestly better than we could have asked for, full of knowledge and extremely accommodating to any of our needs. The food was INCREDIBLE ! we didn't know what to expect with the 'light lunch' and it was plenty of food (and dessert !) before our afternoon game drive. Every meal was very well portioned , delicious and well presented. On our final morning (after we enjoyed a buffet style breakfast with the option to have a hot cooked breakfast as well) the staff had organised cupcakes and sang ! as it was my father-in-laws birthday. Honestly cannot wait to go back and experience more of this gorgeous place. Thank you for an incredible experience.

Spoilt sums up the experience here, from the moment you are greeted whilst driving in, until the day you have to leave..

Every staff member went out their way to ensure we were well taken cared of, and wanted for nothing..

Being the only couple in camp, for our 3 days here, February being quite a hot month- and Covid not helping with the international tourist market coming in to stay.
The staff really went truly out of their way to create amazing evenings/ dinners and romantic settings.

Game drives morning and evening, gave a great opportunity to see the majority of game that the park has to offer.
Including a rare sighting of two black rhinos fighting in the dam whilst three crocodiles and numerous hippos tried to get in on the action - which lasted around 45 min..

An experience that truly was mind blowing and left us exhausted from the intensity of what we were witnessing..

Amazing staff behind the scenes ensuring breakfasts/ lunches and dinners were truly unique different and tasty!

Snacks on the game drives, were unique and the perfect touch whilst partaking in sundowners.

Everything about our stay was amazing! We loved the location of the rooms and the staff were all friendly and very accommodating. The game ranger was very knowledgable and we got to experience and see the animals up close. Food was spectacular and they even made accommodations for my gluten free diet restrictions. 5 Stars definitely well deserved. Would definitely recommend and would return again!

Sometimes you come across an experience that remains indelible in your mind for years to come and Rhino River Lodge is one of those. The staff are brilliant, the food is brilliant and our ranger Hala was just superb. The chalet we stayed in was extremely comfortable and very well appointed. I was suitably impressed by the way we were seated in different areas every time we had a meal and the highlight was enjoying a pre birthday celebration meal in the private boma area. What is even more endearing is the way the Nyala and Warthog walk freely through the lodge unperturbed by people as they know they are safe. We will most certainly return time and again to enjoy this fabulous lodge.
Thank you to all staff members and rangers for a memorable experience.

We visited the lodge in mid-November for a 4 night stay. This was our first safari experience and we were absolutely thrilled. The accommodation itself was lovely with big glass windows enabling us to see more wildlife walking past. Staff were friendly and always on hand to help. The safari drives with our ranger, Stuart, were fantastic. He was a funny, kind and knowledgeable guide with a knack for animal tracking! We saw 4 lionesses, 4 lions, 5 lion cubs, 1 lion hunt and kill at night, black rhino, white rhinos, zebras, buffalos, herd of elephants, warthogs, black backed jackle, hippo, crocodile, cheetahs, wilderbeast, giraffes, monkeys and countless impalas and inyalas! Would recommend to anyone.

We visited Rhino River Lodge for a much-needed long weekend break with our kids aged 15 and 12. What a wonderful, effortless and informative time in the bush. My wife and I enjoy the Manyoni Private Game Reserve for the diversity of game and habitats, and we have visited Rhino River Lodge on several previous occasions, but it is always a joy to return to this lodge. The staff are relaxed and welcoming but thoroughly organised and efficient. The small size of the lodge creates an intimate atmosphere but at an overall cost (especially for our family of 4) which is more affordable and better value for money than other lodges or reserves. Add to this the unique experience of joining a rhino dehorning operation which we arranged through the lodge during our stay, will make this holiday one we and our kids will never forget!
