This was our 17th stay here in 18 years. There has to be a reason why we keep going back.
This spot is paradise. Quaint thatched bungalows, an expanse of pristine beaches and the Indian Ocean provide an unequaled panorama.
Hosts Ronel and JJ are absolutely wonderful.

We returned yet again for our annual month at Palm Resort - probably our 15th visit in 17 years. There’s a reason we keep coming back. It’s a little piece of heaven on earth. Rustic sea-front accommodation, lovely restaurant, fabulous beach and spectacular SCUBA diving … plus the attentive warmth of host/owners Ronel & JJ.
Every year our month is over too soon, but our next trip is already planned for next year.
And a special find was the rare blue dragon - see the snap!

Set in a beautiful area overlooking the Indian Ocean, Jeff's Palm Resort in Mozambique is a great place to stay and dive for both couples and families, but prospective guests need to remember that this resort is in Africa - so don't go expecting five-star accommodation - there are mosquitos, beetles and bugs, no wall-to-wall carpets, room service, TVs and ice-machines in your accommodation - you will be disappointed!

Myself and my husband stayed in one of the huge wood and brick cabanas with a lovely sea view for a week on our second-honeymoon, as part of a two-week shark diving tour of Africa. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by all the staff, from reservations, the restaurant, site staff, to the dive centre and even the owner - Mr Colin Jeffries. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone seemed intent on making our stay as enjoyable and fun as possible.

Well-furnished with mosquito nets provided, an open-plan kitchen/dining area, with sink, hot and cold running water, comfortable beds, an excellent bathroom with proper toilet, a shower and sink and shelves to store your cases/clothes off the floor, our only gripe was that we didn't have a fridge to store perishable items and had to defrost our milk each morning as we had to keep it in the freezer. But an added bonus is that the resort is fed by an underwater spring which means that you can drink the tap water and don't need to spend huge amounts on buying bottled water.

Yes, there were ants, cockroaches, rats and bats around, but we took it all in as part and parcel of our holiday experience and the photographs we took of ants lugging huge biscuit crumbs to their nests to show our children back home were great fun!

Jeff's Pro Dive Centre deserves every one of its five-stars. We did five morning dives with the centre staff and have to give them a thumbs-up for their safety, conservation ethics and the sheer number of flora and fauna to be found on the local dive sites - our favourites were Manta Reef, Paindane Express, Green Trees and Pau's Reef where we spotted turtles, crocodile fish, moral eels, a vast number of assorted fish species and some of the most beautiful anemones and nudibranchs we have ever seen. The centre has just lost its managers of two-years - Mike Kelly and Ruth Murphy - who have gone to pastures new, but they have been replaced by experienced South African couple Mauritza De Klerk and Johan Liebenberg who flew in on the same plane as us. These friendly guys have big plans for the dive centre and we look forward to returning in a few years once our children are certified divers to see what they have done.

We also went out on two three-hour sea safaris - on the first day we snorkelled with a large pod of beautiful dolphins and then on the second day our dream came true - we snorkelled with a majestic whale shark for around 25 minutes - the highlight of our brilliant stay with Jeff's.

Jeff's very kindly helped us organise an informative trip to the local school and even arranged for a member of staff who had youngsters attending it to accompany us on our visit. They also arranged for our cleaner to collect our washing, which was hand washed and returned the same day for a very small charge.

The local shop is well stocked and the service was good but not overbearing and just a short walk from the accommodation. We used it to buy coffee and milk, drinks and snacks, but were more than happy to enjoy a fabulous 'Divers Breakfast' after our dives - a delicious full fry up - in Jeff's Restaurant & Beach Bar. With its own designated manager Johan Van Dyk, a Navy-trained chef and a really lovely guy, this restaurant is right next to the beach and serves lovely Portuguese food plus a wide variety of breakfasts, lunches and main meals. We recommend the daily line-caught fish, served with chips and salad, especially as the restaurant buys its fish fresh from the locals who go out in their tiny boats each day to catch it.

All in all, a great memorable holiday - thanks to everyone at Jeff's. We look forward to returning in the near future.

Fantastic view to the beach, but thats all. One of the most awful accomodations I ever stayed. Had the feeling that the bed linen was not changed after the previous guest.
The rooms have no ceiling an you can be seen through the wooden walls, even in the toilettes. Absolutely no privacy. Worst place on our round trip through RSA and Mozambique
Restaurant is good and the staff is friendly there.

This place is absolutely incredible and so affordable for it's price. The resort is so safe and the staff there are very helpful and friendly! Brian who is the owners son came to fetch my friends and I in the middle of the night after we miscalculated the ETA and was completely amazing. The resort looks just as beautiful if not even better than the pictures. I will definitely be back here but will fly in from Joburg instead. All the chalets have sea view!!!!! Amazing!

We had booked a barraca at Jeff's as we had intended to use our Land Rover rooftop tents to camp whilst staying for a few days for some diving. An early trip to the bar proved fruitful though as, on meeting Colin, we were upgraded to a house free of charge. Thanks Colin - we can't tell you how much we appreciated that! The whole resort is beautiful and well thought out and professionalism clearly runs through everything they do. From the diving centre to the bar/restaurant to the barracas and houses everything was fantastic. I fully intend to return and would encourage others to do the same!

My lady and I spent a week at Jeff's and found the accommodation, setting, and service to be very good. Note, take your own pillows! The restaurant's food is great and we could either eat out or braai right on our door step under the stars. The shop is a few meters away and the long white beaches of this particular bay were at this time of year quiet and pleasant. The locals sell prawns and fresh fish daily and with a bit of negotiating and probably luck, were a good price and of good quality. However, travelling by road is a nightmare especially through Maputo. Avoid travelling through the city on a weekend. In an hour we had moved only 15km. Also DO YOUR UTMOST to obey the speed limits as the police will hold your drivers license ransom till you pay the full fine. Most will ask for bribes but if you have to pay every traffic official along the way it'll eat through your pocket. Also try shadowing another vehical as often as you can the as to try and avoid being pulled off at the road blocks. Also DO NOT TRAVEL AT NIGHT. It's VERY dangerous! Also with the weather playing up power goes out all the way from Inhambane through to Jeff's and the subsequent wind and surge postponed some dives for days. Big up to Johann and Nina for their friendly and informative service. Tofu is also worth a visit but drive slowly, there are some ramps on that road that will sent you airborne. All the best !

We were told that it would be quiet in February, but not that we would be the only guests! This basically a self catering resort which concerned us as we were flying in, the restaurant was only opened limited hours and the menu severely limited (no fish) we ate there a couple of times but mostly bought our own fish from the fishermen on the beach. Jeff's dive centre was closed but we were able to go snorkelling with the other dive centre on the beach who were delightful and professional. They are open year round and train young divers up to instructor level.

Fabulous situation but really geared to S African groups with their own supplies and 4x4 transport!

Jangamo beach was absolutely buzzing as usual over the festive season, with a fantastic vibe and beautiful beach! We've been staying at Jeff's for about 8 years now and the accommodation is really starting to deteriorate. It's lovely staying in the rustic little cabanas but they're starting to fall apart a little. Other than that, best holiday ever, we've already booked for next December!

The Accommodation was a rat and cockroach infested filthy place. In no way suitable for our young children. My husband and I are aid workers and have stayed in some pretty dodgey places and I would say our standards aren't too high, but this was an unpleasant surprise. Granted, we stayed in a different room than originally planned, so maybe they didnt' have time to clean, but...

The requested baby cot had fist sized rat eaten holes in it. Our food stock was eaten by rats the first night. The only option to save what was left of our food was to put it in the deep freeze as there was no fridge.... frozen cheese, yogurt, eggs, cool drinks, etc. A fridge was brought on the 3rd day, but most of our food was ruined by then.

There were no fans or A/C of any kind. Our kids nearly melted. We asked for fans and were told that there are none. Finally we begged and were grudgingly given 1. To be told later, equally grudgingly by a staff member when we thanked them for arranging a fan, "Yes, you took mine". I found a dead cockroach in my baby's crib every morning. Grass mats and local material doors etc were falling apart. No matches and no one to help us figure out how to turn on the gas for the oven/stove. I never say any groundskeeping of any kind. No wonder they had rats. When we complained about the sad state of things we were told "this is a self catering, what did you expect?" I expected something clean and decent.

I had sent an email asking about the grocery store I was told was onsite. I receive no response only to find out later it was closed for the season. Part of my decision to come to the "resort" was based on the fact that there was a store on site. With small children that can save a holiday as the nearest town is a 4x4 required 45 minute drive away.. Other emails were replied to, but not the one asking about the grocery store.

The Restaurant was decent. But evidentially to "grill" something means to pan fry it in oil. So be warned if you are on an oil restrictive diet. Other than that it was enjoyable. The wraps and the salads were perfect lunch fare and most of the seafood was good. The kitchen staff worked hard to keep my little family happy but there is not menu catering for children.

Now for the good part- The Dive Center. What a fantastic group of people. We waited out the tail end of a cyclone (off the coast of Madagascar) and they assured us that the diving was worth the wait. It was. It was chill, fun and exciting. Mantas, Leopard Shark, Rays, and plenty of little stuff. Our kids had a blast playing in the training pool and the holiday was saved thanks to these fantastic people. Thank you Mike, Rufus and Graham. You made it worth it.

Answer from Jeff's Pro Dive M
Hi Jiri. Diving is good from March to July with Manta sightings. Whale sharks are more during November to April - with some sightings throughout the year. Humpback whales are here between June and September. No vaccinations are required and please check Malaria medication that will not restrict you from diving. We do airport transfers and there is a mini market on our premises. Please feel free to contact me via email on diving@ jeffsmozcom; regards JJ
