Well, armed with hindsight, probably not. The big issue for first-timers is expectation. You get a very thin (one word-ish each) list of 22 courses on two menus - the table has to choose one of them. We had the beef. Now, if you have...More
We chose the 19-course Wagyu beef dinner menu rather than the Welsh lamb (the whole table has to have the same menu) so some of these comments reflect that choice.
When we have been to a new restaurant friends usually start by asking three questions:...More
Like most people we made a special journey to visit here and it is everything that you would expect from a creative Michelin star chef and an exceptional 5 star hotel . The approach to the hotel is lovely off the main road and you...More

Ynyshir is a 5 star restaurant with rooms near the Snowdonia National Park, Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. The restaurant at Ynyshir holds 5 AA rosettes - the first and only ever in Wales and has held 1 michelin star since 2014. Chef Patron Gareth Ward serves alternative British tasting menus using the very best of Welsh and British produce. Ynyshir showcases the best of Welsh ingredients following the seasons, such as Welsh Wagyu Beef and Anglesey Onions, locally foraged sea herbs from the estuary and greens from the woodland floor and gardens. During hunting season expect to see wild deer and local duck, grouse and partridge, and in summer Welsh Lamb. Gareth and his team pickle, salt, ferment and preserve fruits, leaves and berries carrying the harvests through the winter and into the spring. Ynyshir is a restaurant experience, finishing with a bed for the evening and breakfast the next morning!
