Situated in the tranquil village of Vanrhynsdorp, the Van Rhyn Guest House offers traditional West Coast hospitality and service. An ideal place to spend a few days exploring the surrounding area and discovering the richness and diversity of the West Coast, "Knersvlakte", Hantam Karoo, Namaqualand and its people. Victorian in style, the house was originally built in 1916 and still retains much of its original character and charm. We, your hosts Ernest and Herbert and our staff, invite you to make yourselves at home and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our lodgings. Besides offering warm hospitality and friendly service, our aim is to ensure that your stay will prove to be a memorable one.

We stayed at Van Rhyn Guest House twice in December 2020. What a delight! Central location, option of various eateries close by, attentive hosts caring for your every need, great breakfast. Spacious and squeeky clean rooms with high ceilings, kettles in the rooms plus a coffee station in the communal guest lounge, which is huge and can accommodate large meetings. Further: art gallery, various tastefully decorated, intimate nooks and niches, a large and very private swimming pool and, most important: mosquito repellant and great air-conditioning! Also good quality linen and elegant decor that enhances the simple, stately spirit of the beautifully renovated old building. Overall: In my experience, best value for money ever.

A lot more than we expected in a guest house. Felt like a home seconds after arriving and so many areas to gather as a family, or break away from the family!!
Lounges, yes plural. Outdoor areas. Again plural. Loads of chill spots and for us 7 it was nice to watch telly together and play games in the common areas.
First observation was how clean and well maintained the property was and how contemporary it was with the useful fittings. Country cottage feel where usb charge points abound. Free coffee and tea station but they may change that after we left.....guiltily made very good use of that. Was a lifesaver in the mornings.
Shower pressure was best experienced in years in a guest house or hotel. (Actually go just to experience that!!)
The owner was on hand and very well informed about where to go and what to do, as well as when. Not intrusive but available.
We dined close by at the local eatery Phucefino who make great pizzas and other comfort foods. Short walk within minutes to sit down or get take away.
A huge shout out to both these businesses who made no excuses re Covid. They were up and running and getting things done. Nothing was too much trouble and they wanted our business and earned it.
Highly recommend.

We changed our initial travel plans and by chance ended up staying in Vanrhynsdorp, which is in the region famous for its wildflowers. We read some good reviews online and chose this guest house. We arrived late because of roadworks but soon settled in. Room was comfortable and homely, and inexpensive. Hosts Ernest and Herbert were welcoming and helpful despite their day's pressures which included a lengthy power cut. A disadvantage of this town is few places to eat, but hosts made a simple supper for their guests at an extra charge. The house is interesting - all sorts of rooms to explore, interesting furniture and artwork. Would definitely stay again.

During these last holidays I stayed there twice - on my way up and down from Namibia. Ernest and Herbert are warm hospitable hosts. My room was clean, spacious, conditioner in good working order and the shower was a pleasure. I found the whole establishment to be very clean and neat. Ernest served a tasty fish and salad dinner in the courtyard. Gigi, black labrador was a joy to have around. My black labrador was also made to feel very welcome. It is good value for money and I would surely stay there again on a trip to Namibia. The relaxing atmosphere is just what you need after a long hot day on the road.

We stayed one night in the guest house which is on the main street of Vanrhynsdorp which is not a busy or noisy town.
The large room was a little old fashioned (good) with en-suite with a very good shower.
We spent some time in the little inner courtyard which has mature trees & a bird-fountain which was visited by many different birds.
We had the full breakfast (but without sausage or bacon) - very good.
Also very interesting to talk to the proprietors who's recommendation for dinner was spot-on.

We spent a night here on the way to Namibia. Great old school feel with the rooms in keeping with the old house. The rooms are large and comfortable with high ceilings.
If our breakfast was anything to go by we should have opted for dinner as well. Though we had a great pizza down the road it seems that the dining options are limited.
Great hosts that are willing to fill you in on the history and art for sale by local artist. Conveniently situated close to the N7 for the long distance traveller. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed overnight as a group of five friends and enjoyed the hospitality of the owners who prepared a delicious evening meal for us. The rooms are comfortably furnished in a style fitting the period of the old homestead. Breakfast was generous and this guesthouse can be recommended to anyone looking for an overnight stay on the Cape Namibia route (N7)

This must be one of the best guest houses in the Western Cape, where we have toured numerous times. We stayed for three nights in late August. It was our second visit, having stayed there last year. The building is a delightful old property that has been very tastefully and sympathetically extended and modernised over the years. There is a wonderful courtyard garden where a multitude of colourful birds are attracted to the fountain / birdbath & bird feeding station. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Breakfast is good and the hosts are friendly and helpful. There are good restaurants nearby, with some within easy walking distance.
We would definitely recommend staying there whilst in the area.
