#2 of 5 in Vanrhynsdorp
Situated in the tranquil village of Vanrhynsdorp, the Van Rhyn Guest House offers traditional West Coast hospitality and service. An ideal place to spend a few days exploring the surrounding area and discovering the richness and diversity of the West Coast, "Knersvlakte", Hantam Karoo, Namaqualand and its people. Victorian in style, the house was originally built in 1916 and still retains much of its original character and charm. We, your hosts Ernest and Herbert and our staff, invite you to make yourselves at home and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our lodgings. Besides offering warm hospitality and friendly service, our aim is to ensure that your stay will prove to be a memorable one.

We stayed at Van Rhyn Guest House twice in December 2020. What a delight! Central location, option of various eateries close by, attentive hosts caring for your every need, great breakfast. Spacious and squeeky clean rooms with high ceilings, kettles in the rooms plus a coffee station in the communal guest lounge, which is huge and can accommodate large meetings. Further: art gallery, various tastefully decorated, intimate nooks and niches, a large and very private swimming pool and, most important: mosquito repellant and great air-conditioning! Also good quality linen and elegant decor that enhances the simple, stately spirit of the beautifully renovated old building. Overall: In my experience, best value for money ever.

A lot more than we expected in a guest house. Felt like a home seconds after arriving and so many areas to gather as a family, or break away from the family!! Lounges, yes plural. Outdoor areas. Again plural. Loads of chill spots and for us 7 it was nice to watch telly together and play games in the common areas. First observation was how clean and well maintained the property was and how contemporary it was with the useful fittings. Country cottage feel where usb charge points abound. Free coffee and tea station but they may change that after we left.....guiltily made very good use of that. Was a lifesaver in the mornings. Shower pressure was best experienced in years in a guest house or hotel. (Actually go just to experience that!!) The owner was on hand and very well informed about where to go and what to do, as well as when. Not intrusive but available. We dined close by at the local eatery Phucefino who make great pizzas and other comfort foods. Short walk within minutes to sit down or get take away. A huge shout out to both these businesses who made no excuses re Covid. They were up and running and getting things done. Nothing was too much trouble and they wanted our business and earned it. Highly recommend.

We were well received by our hosts at this oldish but very neat and clean Guest House. Rooms are spacious and clean with all the required comforts for a pleasant stay. Close to restaurants. Situated on the main entrance road to town but traffic did not disturb.

We stayed one night in the guest house which is on the main street of Vanrhynsdorp which is not a busy or noisy town. The large room was a little old fashioned (good) with en-suite with a very good shower. We spent some time in the little inner courtyard which has mature trees & a bird-fountain which was visited by many different birds. We had the full breakfast (but without sausage or bacon) - very good. Also very interesting to talk to the proprietors who's recommendation for dinner was spot-on.

Well if you need cheap ,this is it. The breakfast is OK but overpriced an add on to the base fee. The water was hot but the bed was so hard Im still trying to recover a week later. The décor looks like it hasn't been redone since the 70's but like I said, if you want cheap it is an option and it is clean and has safe parking.
