Strikingly set on the Andoni plains, one kilometre from Etosha National Park’s King Nehale gate is Etosha King Nehale. The lodge effortlessly portrays the shape of an Nguni cattle head, with chalets stunningly furrowed to the north and south, from the central area like a bull’s horns. Upon walking into the reception and curio shop, boma and dining areas, the Oshiwambo ethos is intriguingly evident from colours, fabrics, cutlery, chandelier, table engravings with impactful proverbs and other embellishments. The chalets are spacious and stylishly adorned with a touch of Oshiwambo cultural ornaments, and each has its own plunge pool, allowing guests to behold boundless horizons of the Andoni plains. – Fit for a king and queen. The lodge hosts 40 rooms and pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the area. There is one detail that puts this lodge over the top: It is its private access to a secluded waterhole, Ontalelo Outpost, which is set in the Etosha National Park. This waterhole is reserved for Etosha King Nehale guests allowing them to immerse themselves in the tranquillity of nature and observe the rich diversity of the animal world in this corner of paradise. To the north, the conservancy is surrounded by the pulsating life of the communal areas of the Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati regions. This new Gondwana lodge gives guests the opportunity to combine the natural wonders of Etosha with the cultural vibrancy of the Aawambo people. Royal treatment awaits.

We celebrated our 40th anniversary at King Nehale and were not disappointed. Staff was friendly, asking for feedback and we could sense they just want to do good. Room servicing can improve a little but if one take into account that most of the staff does not have previous experience in hospitality - then we were impressed. Will definately recommend to friends and will return!

A new Gondwana has arrived and it doesn’t disappoint. The 40(?) individual chalets are large and very nicely decorated with lots of extra touches. A lovely dipping pool awaits summer visitors but it was too cold for us. Chalets on the north side get the sunset and on the south side facing Etosha get the sunrise. Rooms 1-4, 23-29 are close to main lodge. The dining area is Spacious and light and full of a mishmash of decor that just works. Food was decent but zero points for vegetarian options- always an issue in Namibia! Staff are lovely and the manager(s) regularly check in to see if you are happy. Common area around a big fire is beautiful but frankly not very practical. If you don’t get a chair you have to perch around a rather uncomfortable bench that is too tall and leaves legs dangling with nowhere to put them. Add a few ottomans and all will be fine. Breakfast was very good but the egg chef needs support as there was alway a wait at that station. Would definitely recommend this Gondwana though. Great value for what you get!

My wife and I were privileged to stay over two nights at Gondwana King Nehale Lodge, only four days after it opened to the public. We certainly received royal treatment. The lodge offers 40 stand alone chalets of which 26 are twin units and 14 family units. The only distinction is that the family units are slightly larger and offer a fold-out sleeping coach to sleep two additional guests. The units are well equipped with necessary amenties such as fridge, kettle, coffee plunger, hair dryer, safe and toiletries. The theme mirrors the local Ovambo culture and is reasonably well applied throughout. A special feature is a private splashpool with deck chairs at each unit. The staff was incredibly friendly and we were greeted many times with "How are you?", 'Did you sleep well?" accompanied by genuine friendly smiles. The lodge manager, Tinus, was omnipresent and well supported by his wife Lauren. They have a hands-on approach and actively encouraged guest feedback. The fact that Tinus is also a trained chef shows in the quality of the food offered. The assistant manager, Simon and his brother Nico, were deployed from other Gondwana lodges and they keep a wary eye over the rest of the catering staff who were newly appointed from the local community. We also undertook an afternoon game drive to visit the private waterhole in Etosha Park, which is exclusive to King Nehale guests. Our guide, Martin, was well organized and knowledgeable about nature. There is a well equipped hide right at the water hole and the animal sighting was amazing. The only negative was a very cumbersome hour long checkout due to poor admin, but this is a common problem that we have encountered at other Gondwana lodges and surely requires head office attention. In summary, our stay was amazing and we highly recommend King Nehale.

....in the middle of nowhere. Yes, it is stylishly designed, however, one clearly sees that design came before usability.
Service still a bit rusty but friendly (some staff though have a very very basic knowledge of English), but maybe acceptable as the Lodge opened about 10 days ago.

Dinner on night 1 not eatable, dinner on night 2 good, However, generally not worth its inflated price. Breakfast good, coffee very bad, dinner desserts were a joke (one tiny scoop of ice cream).

Strong need to check the printed dinner menus (more spelling mistakes than a grade 1 learner would do). No information whatsoever in rooms for in-room amenities (we had two juice bottles and a bottle of champagne in the mini bar... is it for free, does it costs anything) or any activities available. Cold water was not working in our bungalow and was repaired on day 2 (but only on one sink), shower not draining properly etc.

My friends and I loved our stay at King Nehale. the staff were so friendly and cheerful and helpful. the lodge shows deep appreciation for the Oshiwambo culture and it was interesting learning about this rich Namibian heritage as well as enjoying the luxurious and beautiful rooms. the food was delicious too!
The only thing that stops me rating this lodge a 5 out of 5 is that the floor manager, I believe her name is Lauren, only interacts with the white guests when making her rounds at the restaurant. We watched her repeat this trend at every meal during our stay and saw that she categorically only checks on the white guests

Stunning place to stay in. Chalets wonderfully decorated and private. Staff very friendly and efficient.

Unfortunaly you can't drive on your own to the waterhole - must make use of their service (at expensive price)

Suggest that the resort put people with small kids next to each other. It was a bit annoying that our neighbours' kids came running into our private pool space at times..

This new addition to the Gondwana Collection is a must see in northern Namibia. We never knew the central north could be so beautiful, or plain of grass so calming. We had two chalets, one for the kids and one for us. Both were spacious family rooms. The bathrooms are big, the fittings and amenities very good and the décor a splendid mix of royal and Oshiwambo culture woven together. The private pool is a luxury that allows you to roam freely in your own space and time and watching the grass and the Sanga cattle. Breakfast was excellent and dinner was good, though they must find a way to keep it warmer. The staff is friendly and inobtrusive. Some need a bit more training but are guided by senior staff brought in from other lodges. Gondwana has outdone itself.

This lodge must be one of the most unusual places in and around Etosha. The rooms are stunning and truly royal, and I particularly like the large walk-in shower. Each room has its own private plunge pool which will be nice in summer. The restaurant and bar area are quite large and can get noisy with full occupancy. The boma area is lovely with a fire at night.
The most unusual aspect is the setting of the lodge. It's in a plain full of ... nothing. No trees, no bushes, no elevations, no water hole and, at least during our visit, not many animals. The stars at night are stunning though and it's only a short drive into Etosha park. The Gondwana private water hole excursion is not to be missed: it's a bit of a drive but well worth every bump along the road.

Everything at this lodge was excellent and we felt spoilt from the very first moment we arrived until we left. The atmosphere is great, the place is welcoming and friendly but smart at the same time. All the members of the staff were extremely attentive and helpful, included the guides for the game drives and the cooks. The rooms are interestingly decorated and comfortable, and you can enjoy a fantastic view on the savannah from the giant window in front of the bed. Watching sunrise from bed was pure magic. The best part is, however, the small private pool in each room. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style and the quality of the food presented was quite high, with a wide choice of dishes that could please everyone’s taste (and if you want to go local you can taste even the mopane worms!). It’s a shame we were there only for one night!

What luxury in nowhere! Very tasteful design and interior decorating. Close to Etosha and could be a door-opener for tourism to Ovamboland.
Even taking the corona issue in account - dinner was not good value for money at increased prices compared to other Gondwana lodges
