We stayed for 1 night and had a great time. Room was basic but comfy with everything we needed, with private bathroom and hot shower. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, tea/coffee and dates are available at any time. The owner Obaid was no doubt the best thing about the camp, the real bedouin who spent his life in the desert and knows all traditions first hand; we spent a night by the fire listening to his stories. Driving to the camp is easy enough and lots of fun (you need 4wd), deflate tires before entering the desert and follow the track for 10km and camp is on your left. If you need a guide then contact the camp and they will organise it. There are some local guides trying to sell their services at the last petrol station but they seemed a bit dodgy and pushy, we got there ourselves without any trouble. Camp is located in very picturesque spot right by huge dunes. All sorts of standard desert activities are on offer. We didn't have mobile signal but I think some staff did so probably depends on mobile provider. All in all, fantastic place, feels very genuine and highly recommended. Would love to come back sometime.…
Very good surprise ! Booked "just" a tent but it was very comfy ! Particularly enjoyed to have a private bathroom just in front of my tent. Obaid and his staff were particularly welcoming. Obaid was very pleased to welcome his guests, who all enjoyed the Bedouin time when we wore traditional clothes and have a dance ! If you're driving a 4wd car, the route on the desert is largely doable. Some of the guests who drove for their first time found it easy.
A little taste of the sands in Wahiba Sands with the star attraction, besides the wonderful sand dunes, being Obeid who runs the show with his family. It is his passion and interest in his upbringing and local culture that come across when he generous with his time and stories. A short drive in from Bedayah and guides available to help you find his small but well positioned camp. We stayed in a tent with simple beds and a private bathroom set beside Dinner and breakfast included which was simple but plenty of it. A few options they provide but the sand dunes on sunset and sunrise were the attractions for us together with a fireside chat learning about all sorts of things about the bedouin lifestyle of old. Fascinating
We stayed two nights at the camp which gave us time to relax and really enjoy the surroundings. Obeid the owner was so enthusiastic about promoting his culture and told great stories around the camp fire. We all enjoyed dressing up in traditional costumes before being introduced to local dance. The food was simple but great. The tents were okay. The shower was excellent and welcome. The staff were pleased to see you and were always willing to chat. Walking up and over the sand dunes was wonderful. If you want an adventure this is a great place to start. Give it a go!
If you're an independent traveller passing through the Wahiba Sands area, you're probably looking for a tent camp to spend the night. This is the place you should stay. The prices are affordable, the owner is very interesting and friendly, and the camp is pleasant and probably what you're looking for. Each tent is semi-rustic, but you're given cots to sleep on and you'll have an adjacent private bathroom (we didn't try showering; there were no towels and the water would have just run everywhere). The owner is a "real" bedouin and shares his knowledge with his guests during an introductory program and a later campfire. The food is tasty and served buffet-style. The camp is next to some nice sand dunes you can walk up and, in the morning, feed the camels and goats. You can pay extra for sand-bashing (crazy driving over the dunes). It's possible to reach the camp with your own 4x4, but it's definitely easier to pay the 15 OMR and get picked up at the local Shell gas station in town. One night is all you'll want.…
