Idyllically located in the small harbour of Bekkjarvik, just a short boat ride away from the city center of Bergen, you will find Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri Hotel & Suites. The hotel has been the heart of this idyllic fishing village since it was built in the 1600`s, and still provides a calm harbour for all travellers today. Guests would come for excellent food and drinks, surrounded by the beautiful nature the west coast of Norway has to offer. We are very proud of our kitchen team, managed by the twin brothers and family members Ørjan & Arnt Johannessen. The nature surrounding Bekkjarvik is wild and generous; the sea provides fresh seafood, while the moors and woods are home to deer and wild sheep. You can choose to stay in one of the charming white wooden houses, or in the Boutique Hotel Beckerwyc House which also is home to fine dining restaurant Mirabelle. Either way, you will sleep well in a warm and cosy atmosphere, in unique surroundings. Discover the Island Experience!

It was difficult to get a room during the summer so we had to adjust our itinerary based on the availability of their rooms. The room we got is in a different building facing the sea. It was really an apartment with two bedrooms. Super spacious. Wished we stayed more than 1 day to be honest.
The 5 course dinner seemed little per dish but I got full towards the end. It was very tasteful. Very excited to meet the superstar, Ørjan. Honored to meet a chef who is a Bocuse d'Or winner. Thanks to the Portuguese waiter who asked his boss if we could meet him. I was so thrilled. Thank you so much!
We would like to go back again even though we live in Oslo. After dinner, we went for a walk in Kongskleiva, a little hill.
Breakfast was very good. I like Tine smør and though they did not have it in the breakfast, I liked the butter they had. You order what you want for breakfast. Bekkjarvik is such a charming place.

Amazing park, steps made by sherpas, the sea, the little harbor, everything made for enjoying a day an night. The room with a beautiful view and a terrace to share outside. Great service.
But the dinner was disappointing. The first plates were good, as well as the following fish, but nothing special, and the lamb was overcooked. For dessert we chose cheese, looking forward to delicious local products. We got two Italian and two French pieces. What a disappointment!

This is really a very special place, with Bocuse d'Or winner Ørjan Johannesen and his twin brother as hosts and master chefs. Terrific food - including the best piece of wild lamb meat we have ever tasted. Very quiet accomodation with beautiful rooms. And we recommend guests to do some hiking around Bekkjarvik where Sherpas from Nepal have made stairs up to the top of the mountain of Kongsen. It was all very memorable

Based on the location, pictures, price and reviews of the restaurant, my expectations were high. Sadly, reality didn't live up to them. The single room I lived in could have been found in any average hotel, and the halibut dinner was served with a too salty sauce and slightly burnt vegetables.

Our family travelled a long distance to visit what looked to be a beautiful hotel based upon the photos online. Unfortunately, most of the advertised pictures are part of a separate part of the hotel reserved for group bookings, and all photos are taken with an advantageous angle hiding the parking lot/road immediately in front of the rooms and restaurant. If booking a suite, take note that it’s in a separate building that you have to walk to and which feels like a motel— abandoned bike and stroller in the entryway, seedy staircase, public restroom.. it was not at all worth the $500 we spent. Several of these rooms do not have windows that can be opened or central air. The 5-course dinner is $100/person. We were given printer paper menus in Norwegian, no English, and no one was able to translate. We left and went to the burger place across the street which was actually pretty good. They offer a standard Norwegian breakfast which was great, but you get it at nearly every hotel. I would not recommend making the trip out here if this hotel is the main attraction.

Response from Rønnaug Nymark, General Manager at Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri Hotel & Suites
Responded 28 Aug 2023
Dear guest Thank you for your feedback. Once again, we are sorry to hear that your visit did not meet the expectations. As alredy explained to you on e-mail, the variety of historical and new builidings and their location are displayed and described on our webiste. Your statement that "most of the advertised pictures are part of a separate part of the hotel reserved for group bookings" is just not correct. Also, the rooms you stayed in do in fact have windows that can open. We are pleased to hear that the recommondation of a more suitable restaurant, proposed to you by your english speaking waiter, was a success. Our property is unique, meaning that it has a large variety of rooms and spaces. We can see that this might be a bit challenging to new visitors. The team here is more than happy to assist with bookings to secure that expectations will be met. Best regards Team Johannessen

Great surroundings and friendly staff!
We ate a lovely 5-course dinner with wine pack and the breakfast buffet was also great!
Unfortunately the room we got at Tønnefabrikken was a big disappointment. We had with the dog since there are great hiking opportunities in the area, but then one must obviously expect to get the worst room and in addition pay extra...
Steer away from room 24. There is a large room with two small windows facing the front door where you must have your blinds down if you do not want everyone entering/exiting to look straight into the room. It was therefore very dark and sad inside and far from what I had expected when I booked accommodation at this great place.
We were offered another room, but then they were supposed to have 1000,- more so we chose to stay since we did not plan to spend so much time in the room other than to sleep. We regretted that the next morning. To stay in this room you must like to be awakened all night every time someone walks through the front door, which definitely did not make this a dog friendly room since it involved beating every time in our case.
The bathroom was, however, great and the bed was soft and good.

Stayed here for one night. Price usually is 1500 and above which is a complete ripoff. Rooms are average at best, service is ok. My room had no outdoor view, window was facing to the inside of the mall and was very small. The upside is the food at the restaurant, that is great indeed. Unfortunately hotelwise there are as far as I know no other options on this island. Definitely not worth the price for the room, I would not pay anything more than 1100 NOK for my room

Nice room, good kitchen and a super and knowledgeable waiter. Fish as starters and first main dish came out perfect. Kalf as second main dish was good, but heavy. Dessert was sweet, but somewhat difficult to digest as we were already well fed! We also opted for the wine package. Good pairing and experience. And our waiter was super!

We were a family group of 14 members in Bekkjarvik in order to celebrate a Golden
Wedding , a 75years Birthday and a 80years Birthday. We stayed for 3 nights in a
seperate house, «Herrskapshuset» situated in a lovely rose garden. This was a perfect location for our celebration.
Food was delicious and we had many different activities during the stay.
Mountain walk, fishing at see and cooking lesson with the World Champion, Ørjan.
The staff made our stay perfect.

Nice location, nice rose garden.
Ok room - good bed., and very nice with prosecco in the room!
BUT!!
I was really looking forward to and looking forward to an extra good dinner. Had read a lot about focus on food etc- and traveled far. Breiflabb with hollandaise..
Extreme Salt sauce. !!
We both thought so. I told you. Food was taken out. Get back the same food - now cold -with a "water" of a sauce! Fish tough.
The waiter should be fired. No service, kindness or offer of other food or other excuse. The chef should get a strong reprimande.- here we are talking far from master chef. Continuing this way the place is not life made. The concept is based on the food.
I am a very eager and experienced hobby chef and food lover. So sad, but this holds no goal at all – unfortunately!!
