I spend a lot of time in game reserves and this is the first time I’ve seen rooms like this. When you open up the tented sides of the chalet it really does feel like you’re part of the bush. We stayed in unit 3 and the view is very private. One morning we just sat in bed with the tent open and watched as some really beautiful birds came by including crimson breasted shrike and coqui francolin.

The kitchenette is fine, the bar fridge was too small for our food so we kept a cooler box with ice in it for the extras. There’s a communal kitchen which is very well kitted out but it’s not close to the unit and we never used it. The fire pit in front of the unit is great, and it has a shovel to move the coals from your wood fire into the braai, which is my favorite way to braai.

Audrey the manager was friendly and well organized. We could WhatsApp her to let her know we’d left the room so it could be serviced without disturbing our privacy.

The camp is in the southern half of Dinokeng. We couldn’t hear much road noise like you get with some of the other camps. There aren’t many big 5 sightings on the self drive routes if that’s what you’re after. The lodge has game drive providers though we didn’t use them. I would recommend booking a drive with Mongeni in the north where there’s lots of sightings.

We spent three beautiful nights at Lookout. The rooms or suites are perfectly appointed and have everything you need to ensure a comfortable stay. They are also situated far apart from each other which affords you lots of privacy and quiet.
The Dinokeng Reserve is a wonderful location for Lookout and the game drives we went on were fantastic. We love the fact that you are able to drive yourself.

Luxurious and private stay with friendly staff. We stayed in chalet 1 with a jacuzzi and it was just perfect. The outdoor kitchenette was great and had everything you may need for self catering in the bush. The roll up walls are the best part of the room and although you shouldn't really need a tv, it came in handy when there was a massive storm and we were bored of playing board games! Will definitely be back!

Audrey was an amazing host! The rooms are neat, well equipped for a relaxing self-catering break. We saw more game from our patio than we did on the game drive. Everything was clean and new and well-maintained. Linen was fresh and pillows smelled new.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at Lookout Safari lodge and we had a great weekend. The lodge was easy to find and the location is absolutely beautiful. We were met by the sweetest and most helpful lady at reception (Ms Audrey) she gave us a warm welcome and offered us a choice of welcome drinks, she showed us around and made us feel so welcome. We stayed in Chalet 4, The chalet was very clean and well decorated. The bed is comfy and the heated blankets kept us warm, the shower pressure is perfect, the tub was clean and the toilet was also clean which we appreciated. We had a blast however I do have two suggestions, firstly the hot tub had a bit of sand in it and there wasn't really any tools to clean it so we couldn't use it but the tub made up for it, secondly the kitchen is outside which I personally didn't like mainly because it was pitch black outside and I was slightly scared to go outside to get anything from the fridge (I would like to recommend that they look into adding the canvas around the kitchen as well).

Overall still had a great time, all the lodge staff were friendly and helpful.

I'd rate the full experience a solid 8/10

Thank you for your input- we are happy that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortuntely sand does blow in to the outside jacuzzies when the jacuzzies are not covered. However all jacuzzies are thoroughly cleaned before check in. we hope to see you again soon

Really love this place. So peaceful and relaxing. Audrey is great, very efficient and friendly and a pleasure dealing with.
There were however a lot of mouse droppings in the mornings in the kitchen.
Also suggest that gravel is placed outside the braai area as it became a mud bud around it and into the open kitchen (due to the rain).
A proper bowl/container for "braai" meat would be appreciated.

HI Christelle thanks for your review we do have a few resident sweet tooth squirrels who are ransacking the kitchens for sugar - and then they leave calling cards.... thanks we have taken note of your suggestion and will get some gravel or paving around the braai area the pyrex bowls for the braai meat was hidden in the microwave- sorry you missed it :)

Dear all at Lookout Safari Lodge, including Audrey, Carla, Liesl and Gilbert,

Pierre and I were really not looking forward to Christmas without our family this year and could not bear the thought of staying home
without them. I glumly looked around to see what we could do for a few days, since Pierre had to work up to the 23rd Dec anyway.

Somehow I think these things must be orchestrated by the universe because I came across Outlook Safari Lodge as the first stop on my online search.
It looked like the perfect place for us to unwind after a crazy year. I made my booking and got an immediate confirmation from Liesl with all the details I needed. My booking was made in September, so for us it was still a while to go before the Season hit us, so it was almost forgotten until the week of our departure and we scrambled to organize for a little break away.

To spend a few days away was the best decision we could have made because Outlook Safari Lodge did not disappoint, in fact. it never stopped giving in all respects! Audrey, our host that day, met us with a smile and a great sense of humour that cracked us up. She was informative too, welcoming and extremely efficient. She showed us around and then took us to our accommodation which to us was perfect in every sense. Our tented chalet was beautifully appointed giving us the privacy we wanted. The decor was understated and very comfortable with a king size bed and enough seating inside and out. The jacuzzi just outside the chalet under a beautiful tree, lit up with fairy lights in the evening, turned out to be a triumph. The bathroom facilities are well organised and provide you with every convenience you could wish for!

The kitchen is outside the chalet and has everything you need. It flows onto a deck with a small table and chairs. We did feel that the table could have been slightly bigger but we had brought one of our own fold ups with us, which helped with space. ( We had a LOT of Christmas stuff LOL)

We loved every second of our stay at this special lodge and cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and friendly attitude. Gilbert helped us with an issue with the braai and when we had a problem with the jacuzzi he was right on hand to fix whatever had to be fixed. Audrey also arrived on Christmas day with a bag of chocolates, dressed like a little elf in red with hugs for us and good wishes. Delightful!
Loved it! Pierre and Jenni Erasmus

Located at the Dinokeng game reserve. Hostess Odri is very helpful and will guide u throughout your stay she also kept us updated on the loadshedding schedule in the area. The lodge provides you
with almost every facilities. The Jacuzzi on the porch was the highlight of the trip. When making my booking i was asked if i would like a a romantic set up and i did opt for it. The set up included fairy lights and candles set up a bottle of champagne and chocolates( really cute). Overall experience was amazing.I will recommend this lodge to every couple who want to spend some time away from the city rush or for a romantic getaway.

We loved our stay! It was the perfect romantic getaway for 2 easy nights away from JHB. Just over 1 hrs drive made it super accessible. We stayed in the family chalet. The Room was fabulous, beautifully designed, loved the 4 poster bed with mosquito net and electric blanket, clean, warm and wonderful. The oven wasn’t working but Audrey and her team were very helpful and managed to arrange a convection microwave as an alternative. Game viewing wasn’t the best but we still saw zebras, giraffe and buck and it was just great being out there. Thank you, we’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful rooms in a quiet setting. Good COVID protocols in place. Even though lodge was full, you don’t even see the other guests as units are a distance from each other. Can do game drives or self drives from lodge as we only saw one animal from the lodge
