My husband and I stayed here for four nights as part of a veterinary expedition tour with the South African company Ecolife. I had been on a similar trip in 2022 and was looking forward to being here again. And we weren’t disappointed! The rooms were clean and comfortable, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water in the bathrooms. Manager Crystal is always pleasant and immensely helpful, and all her staff are friendly and well-trained. They even did laundry for us for a slight charge, which was so appreciated after days on the road. The food was absolutely wonderful, courtesy of resident chef Stephie, who turned out top-notch cuisine for breakfasts and dinners and also packed lunches for all fourteen of us the day we left. The setting is a series of chalets in gardens right on the Blyde River in the mountains, peaceful and lovely, at least until the ibises start their morning calls! And you need to watch for the hippo that may come out of the river to graze at night, but we never saw her. We ate outdoors on a covered porch on the second floor of the lodge, close to the river and under tall, ancient trees. Of course the periodic electrical black-outs known as “load-shedding” complicate everything, but they are nationwide and everyone works around them. WiFi was only available at the lodge and when the electricity was on, but that was a minor inconvenience. I would recommend this resort for couples and families, and I hope to return someday.

We stayed here for two nights by accident in October 2022. We were booked for six nights at the Moholoholo Forest Lodge but when we arrived we were told we would be moved to Ya Mati for the last two nights as they had overbooked. Apparently we should have been told before our holiday but we weren’t. Although we were disappointed to leave the forest lodge we were given a five bedroom house between the four of us! This place is beautiful, just a few houses spread out in the grounds directly on the Blyde river. There was only one other house occupied so very peaceful. We loved it here, so peaceful and scenic, we would have loved to have stayed longer. Crystal who runs it is lovely and very helpful. Our dinners were cooked by Eddie the chef and left in our kitchen for us to eat whenever we were ready. The food was amazing and so much of it! We could only eat half the amount we were left which made us feel guilty. We are vegetarians but this was no problem. He made us a delicious veggie shepherds pie one evening, with homemade mulva pudding and ice cream…I can still remember how good it all tasted. We would definitely love to return here again soon ❤️

I have been going to Moholoholo Ya Mati since 2001 and i have never been disappointed. This is the most peaceful place in the most beautiful setting. We try to always stay at River Chalet so that we can sit on the deck overlooking the river. The staff are exceptional and very friendly. Marietjie, the Manager has always gone the extra mile for us and makes you feel most welcome. The breakfasts are decent and the facilities are top class. The chalets are big with large bedroms and bathrooms. A true gem

Set in stunning gardens with a great view of the mountains this place definitely makes a good first impression. The staff were all very friendly and helpful making you feel welcome. The room I had was large, clean and comfortably furnished with all the conveniences you would want. Best of all it had a quaint covered balcony from which you could watch the world go by in comfort. The breakfast included in the B&B price was huge and one of the best full English breakfasts I have had in a long time. Will definitely be back.

We spent two nights here while visiting the many beautiful sights in the area. The chalet and the food were fabulous. With two bedrooms and two baths (on separate levels), it allows two couples to have their space while sharing the common area indoors and out. Upon arrival our dinner was waiting in the chalet for us (and it was delicious), and the second evening we grilled steaks in the wonderful deck area. The accommodations and the view both get two thumbs up from me.

Stunning venue. We arrived for a late lunch. Friendly staff but obviously short staffed as they were flustered and service was very slow. Very poor attention to cleanliness of area. Wine was delivered from a storeroom and not a fridge. Good food but slow service - the first two in our party of 7 had almost finished their meal by the time the last two orders were delivered. Absolutely no management in sight or in attendance. This venue is a potential goldmine awaiting management.

We stayed here two nights. It was an 'in between' choice and it was a lovely peaceful place to stay. Our group comprised of 8 people and there were enough rooms for each couple and friends, with 2 share bathrooms. Don't do a running dive on the bed as you'll end up with concussion, they are very hard but surprisingly comfortable. The bathrooms are clean with good water pressure and a decent shower. We ordered food from the in house restaurant which was not included in the cost of the room, but the price was comparable. We had to bring in our own alcohol and mixers. The food was good and a fair supply, with plenty of left overs. There are lovely lawns to walk around, but you must be aware of hippos, though we never saw any. There is WiFi but it is intermittent but really when you are relaxing in such an idyllic spot why would you need it. I'd definitely recommend Ya Mati as a place to stay.

This is the second year we have stayed at Ya Mati and find it to be convenient for a family. To arrive on an evening and to have supper waiting was wonderful. Breakfast to order, was served on the stoep and satisfied all our needs.

My partner and I recently stayed over at Moholoholo YaMathi for a couple of nights. We found the staff to be fantastically helpfull, our luggage was whisked away to our room while we enjoyed a welcome drink. We ate some of our dinners at the little restaurant and we grilled by ourselves some of the evenings. Best to let the restaurant know in advance what your meal arrangements are, they are not a mainstay restaurant and quite secluded. The management couple, Warren and his wonderful wife Marietjie, really do a wonderful job under sometimes strange times. Like when a hippo decides to live in the river next to the bar! Beautiful, well run, quiet setting. Perfect for weddings with a chapel on the premises right next to the river. Thank you for the fantastic experience!!

Pity such a nice venue has such shocking communication. Charged and goods not delivered. Promised a refund and now all emails are been ignored. No communication with guests who pay and confirm bookings and the buck passed on. Sadly what was meant to be a beautiful weekend was completely ruined due to a lack of communication, stress and exhaustion.
