Red Tin Roof is a manor house that has been sleeping guests, feeding strangers and quenching thirsts for decades. The new owners gave her a complete facelift and donned her in new colours. Known as a bit of a party animal, they enlarged the bar - and added another! They have re-vamped her from head to toe and decorated her with an eclectic mixture of art and collectibles from around the world.

Lovely guesthouse where you can relax on the shady terrace, watch the weaver birds build nests over the pond, read a book in the hammock or relax around the splash pool. We were more than comfortable in the spotlessly clean house, with lovely crisp linen and very comfy beds. Sam is a wonderful host, who is around if you need her and advised us of lovely surrounding places to visit. The breakfasts were really good too. The restaurant menu looked really good and reasonably priced too, if its anything like the breakfasts, you wont be disappointed.

Thanks to Sam and Jacques for accommodating our New Year party of seven. What a comfortable way for a group of family and friends to spend time together. The four rooms in the garden surround a communal sitting room that leads out to the courtyard and pool area. The fifth bedroom in the main building added to our comfort. We dined elsewhere while the RTR sorts out it’s new restaurant opening soon. But that meant that we could return to see in the New Year in splendid privacy in the courtyard. The morning after saw a delicious, leisurely breakfast served there. Jacques and Sam joined us to exchange many stories of, well, shall we say, mutual current affairs, amidst much laughter. What a delight.

The Red Tin Roof. The afternoon of the 1st of October 2022 I arrived later than I have anticipated. Booking a month in advance and settling the account, assisted me tremendously to obtain the room keys hassle free with no paperwork at all. I attended a wedding and only got back to the guesthouse in the early hours of the morning. The outside lighting was pleasing to find the way to my room. It just happened that another couple also arrived at the same time. So we chatted and had some of the complimentary coffee and rusks, which was available in the lounge. I got to bed and must have dosed off listening to the tree branches scratching on the RED TIN ROOF. As it became light outside I took a bath and made use of the complimentary shampoo and body soap, after which I dried myself with the complimentary fresh towels. I enjoyed walking in the big garden taking fotos of the premises with all the favorite hidden away spots. Sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee I let my mind wonder until the other couples presence brought me back to reality. The three of us moved towards the restaurant where breakfast was served in the garden.(It was an option offered, inside or outside) The Red Tin Roof is definitely a place to meet friends and to hang out. After the couple had left, I was still sitting at the table. Peace and tranquility was surrounding me. I felt sad to leave the place. To extend this feeling that I was experiencing , I decided to take more pictures before handing back my room keys and be on my way back to Bellville. Lost in my own mind and trying to hold on to this feeling of nothing is going to rush me now, I departed from the RED TIN ROOF.

The Red Tin Roof should close this room, or advertise it as it is, a small cavern with an uninspiring porch leading off it, right up against a busy stop street. There was a double bunk bed squeezed in the room-not mentioned in the write up, and the mini bar was a dirty bottle of Nescafe and coffee cups. The shower- which burns or freezes you, and the toilet are perched on shutter-board platforms. The breakfast included in the price did not materialise, as the kitchen said they would only be ready by 9a.m.

Room was a nice size. Only three niggles - the aircon is really noisy and ineffective. So all you hear is this loud whining and no cool air.
Secondly, the shower is in the bath, but grip or railing to hold onto. Very easy to slip and can cause serious injury.
Finally, curtains do not keep light from outside out, so the room in not dark at all when sleeping.

Red Tin Roof was actually not the first problem here- it was the booking via nightsbridge, the online booking platform. We booked the Tretchikoff Room via this platform however when we arrived we were told safarinow booked the blue room for us. We said but that is not we booked and not what we expected? All they said was safarinow / nightsbridge booked the blue room and we could either stay there or in the autumn room. We were looking forward to our separate entrance bedroom with bath and private veranda. We have not been able to stay over anywhere on our own for a year, we were looking forward to this break! Sam couldn't care less. We've emailed the Red Tin Roof and Safarinow with regards to the error and inconvenience caused but have had no response to date.
Also the place is in disrepair, dated and falling apart, don't think there has been any maintenance done for years- a very sad place indeed. Would not recommend it at all.

Everything and everone was very pleasant here, and it is great value. My only dissatisfaction was with the breakfast coffee - I like plunger coffee, but this was watery and poor (both mornings), and warm milk would have helped compensate for the thick, cold cup. Note that the bedrooms leak sound from the central lounge area when this is being used, but that was seldom any problem.

Ah where to begin!

The owners state that their accommodation is quirky. Next to the entrance door is a placard that state that this luxurious Guest House has earned four stars.

Well if you are the person that believes that stained carpets, soiled and torn curtains are quirky, this is the place for you.

You will also love the mould on the ceiling in the bathroom and the smoke smell.

We on the other hand did not enjoy this and decided not to stay. We have booked three rooms for a family get-together which was paid in advance.

The owners denied the state of the room and refused to pay us back.

Overall a horrible experience for two hours.

My one night stay at the Red Tin Roof exceeded my expectations. The room and facilities were great. My room was one of four which branched off a central sitting room with a large fireplace (great for winter evenings). The breakfast was lovely.
