"The grand old lady finally has her new dress on" is what the locals said when The Royal was refurbished and upgraded to the highest standards in 2005/2006. After serving more than seven generations, the oldest hotel of the Western Cape occupies a very special place in the hearts of both local and international visitors.

We had quite a busy afternoon at the olive festival and only to come and relax with a nice beverage. Huge selection of gins to choose from their bar. Awesome place. Will definitely recommend this to family and friends , will def pop in again.

Loved visiting the hotel over the Olive Festival weekend. Also love the old world charm and the new decor. We only had drinks but our visit was well worth it. Friendly staff and other visitors. We'll be back for a meal next time.

First of all the staff is very kind. we go there quite often and are always welcomed by the staff members. The hotel's rooms and pool facilities are pristine and always looked after. If you are missing anything from your room like a towel or a pillow, the housing staff will always help. The food at the hotel is amazing. At different times of the year the food fits well with the time of the year. The chef always caters to the needed of people who might have dietary needs such as gluten free or sugar free.

The hotel grounds are well kept and it has obviously had a refurb in the last few years. Food was exceptional and the staff are attentive and friendly. My only gripe is that our garden room basically had no view of the garden but rather an odd looking tent in front of us and some back of house gas bottles for the kitchen. No window in the room so it was really stuffy and one obviously can't sleep with the door open! The variety of gins in the bar is insane...what a great spot by the fire on a cold day. One suggestion though - please dont hand out your wine list on a dodgy A4 peice of paper - it looks cheap and nasty! Breakfast was delicious. I had the French toast and then the royal eggs Benedict. Absolute perfection. A great hotel and will certainly be back.
