La Folie Lodge is a charming boutique hotel located on Don Daeng Island, Laos. The lodge faces a sandy beach, the Mekong River, and the sacred mountains home to the Vat Phu temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. La Folie Lodge offers charming bungalows and private villas that blend seamlessly with the incredible nature of the island. All rooms have a private balcony overlooking the Mekong River, and are furnished with organic amenities made in Laos. The restaurant at La Folie Lodge offers a variety of comfort western food and traditional Lao cuisine, which can be enjoyed on the terrace, by the pool, or under the roof of the lodge. The pool is perfectly positioned to take in the breathtaking sunsets from Don Daeng Island. La Folie Tour Desk offers numerous excursions and activities, thanks to its unique location between the best sites of Southern Laos. Private boats and drivers are available for full-day excursions right from the lodge. By staying at La Folie Lodge, guests can support the development of the island. Guests can also learn about the lodge's community projects by cycling around the island and visiting them.
We spent 8 nights here. It was a welcome place to relax after touring Laos. We chose to enjoy the island - cycling, morning yoga, swimming in the Mekong, ending the day with a beer Lao watching some of the best sunsets we’ve ever seen. The semi detached beach facing huts are comfortable, clean and authentic. At times you can hear the guests next door. Hotel food is good yet we enjoyed cycling to Mr Mee’s a couple of evenings (head torches essential). This is the only other restaurant on the island. As independent travellers, there were days when large touring groups dominated the hotel but the staff coped well and service never suffered. The hotel organised a trip to 4,000 islands for us. Dolphins haven’t been spotted in this area since 2019 and the building of the dam. It was a long drive and we were happy to arrive back to the peace of the hotel and another beer Lao!…

Dear Rachel, Thank you immensely for sharing your experiences from your 8-night sojourn at our haven. We're delighted that our little oasis served as a serene backdrop to your Laotian adventure, providing a slice of tranquility amidst the exploration. Your days filled with cycling, morning yoga, Mekong swims, and those beer Lao-enhanced sunsets sound absolutely idyllic, painting a picture of the perfect retreat. We're glad our beach-facing huts offered you a cozy, clean, and authentic resting nest, despite the occasional soundtrack from next-door neighbors. Exploring local culinary delights, like your ventures to Mr. Mee’s, is indeed part of the authentic island experience, and we're thrilled you embraced this adventure (head torches and all!). While the presence of touring groups can shift the ambiance, we're heartened to hear that our staff's dedication ensured your experience remained undisturbed. Your journey to the 4,000 islands sounds like a quest for serenity and natural beauty, even if the elusive dolphins decided to play hide and seek this time around. We're just pleased that the tranquil embrace of our hotel awaited your return. We look forward to welcoming you back for more serene sunsets, tranquil swims, and, of course, a few more beers Lao by the Mekong. Here's to more unforgettable memories in this peaceful haven! With heartfelt thanks, La Folie

An elegant, and charming resort destination. Our family of four took two rooms for four nights. The rooms are very comfortable and immaculately clean with new mattresses. The pool is a photoshoot fantasy. But it's for real. Watch the cows with newborn calfs and small herds of water buffalo wander the beach for a morning bath in the river. We rode bikes around the island. We took a sunset boat ride. We travelled to the area of a thousand islands for kayaking. Visited the spectacular ruins. Took the Russian abandoned jeeps (leftover from the IndoChina war) to the waterfall and tour of an indigenous owned coffee plantation with the most amazing dogs. The people were consistently wonderful. The food was delicious and plentiful. Highly, highly recommend this gem. It was the highlight of our Laos vacation.…

This is a incredible place to stay. So calm and peaceful! The views on Mekong and the mountains are beautiful. The bungalows are cosy . The staff is so welcoming and always available. Mr. Sam , duty manager is very professional and polite. You can rely on him for any activities you want to book. A place to go to and enjoy. Some improvements that could benefit the place - mosquito net ( although this was not a problem)

What to say about this perfect place? The position is enchanting along the shore of the Mekong river, the bungalows are furnished in a sort of old colonial style providing comfort and great views, the staff is utterly kind and attentive to every request and desire; you can even enjoy yoga group or single lessons. It is a dreamy venue where to regenerate body and soul.

Excellent accommodation, excellent food, attentive staff. The location is unique. The shuttle boat is also an experience. Peaceful place!! We have not seen much of the surroundings yet, because it was dark when we arrived. The garden is very nice!

Dearest Guest, Your kind words paint a picture of La Folie Lodge bathed in moonlight and mystery, an enchanting prelude to the day's adventures. We confess, even the shuttle boat becomes a whimsical ferry between worlds when twilight kisses the water. Fear not, the dawn breaks like a promise over these hills, revealing stunning landscapes just begging to be explored. Your garden stroll, under the caress of morning sunlight, will be a revelation! Thank you for choosing La Folie Lodge, and may your Laotian journey be as captivating as the moonlit arrival. La Folie

La Folie Lodge is on a small island on the Mekong River. To reach it, you take one of the hotel boats, which is all part of the charm. The island can be explored by bike and on foot ; the local villagers are smiley and seem unfazed by curious tourists. Staff are mostly from the island, the food is good (expect to eat in most nights, as other options seem limited) The spa staff were running impromptu yoga classes every morning at 7am, partly for their own training. Hopefully these will become a more formal part of the hotel offer.

Dearest guest, Your words weave a tapestry of serenity and charm, painting La Folie Lodge as an island of escape within an island escape. We blush at your praise for our setting, the gentle sway of Mekong boats our lullaby, and the smiles of our island neighbors the sweetest welcome. Rest assured, your hunger for exploration (both pedal-powered and sandal-clad) is music to our ears. And yes, the local charm might just be contagious – it's what gives our staff that extra sparkle in their eyes. Now, about those impromptu yoga sessions… you've stumbled upon a hidden gem! Our spa staff, in their dedication to wellness, decided to share their practice with anyone willing to join. We're thrilled you enjoyed the sunrise stretches, and who knows, perhaps next time you visit, those sunrise salutations will be a formal affair, echoing through the palm trees like a morning mantra. Thank you for this beautiful snapshot of your experience. You've reminded us that the magic of La Folie Lodge lies not just in the polished perfection, but in the unexpected moments, the shared smiles, and the impromptu asanas under the Laotian sun. Come back soon, and we'll make sure your next visit is a harmonious blend of comfort, exploration, and maybe even a downward-facing dog or two. With gratitude and a touch of sun salutation, La Folie

This place is a hidden gem, outside the beaten paths, although very close to the city of Champassak and the magnificient Vat Phu. It is a place where you can discover the traditional Laotian way of live, going round the island and talking with the charming (local) staff. Rooms are big, with a very nice terrasse looking over the Mekong. Food is the best we had in Laos, and do try the Sin dat on the beach, quite an experience. Small but great spa. Thanks for your lovely welcome!

We had a wonderful time in La Folie. We spent a week here and relaxed and had it as a hub for going on different excursions with our travel agent Selective Asia (excellent company). Excellent service, good food, relaxing environment, good bungalows and a big pool to cool down in. Like to go back any day!

Beautiful views of the Mekong beach and mountains. We had small children and they had so much fun playing on the beautiful white sand beach. The rooms all have a private balcony with an amazing view. The staff was very attentive to all our needs. The grounds are kept up and very well maintained with beautiful flowers and fruit growing along the pathways. The pool was beautiful, the only down side is the shallow end of the pool is 5 ft so if you have little ones bring arm floats or something for safety. This place is so quiet and relaxing. Even the ferry ride over was relaxing.

Wonderful place, unlike most visitors we choose to spend full two days (3 nights) "at leisure" at the lodge after a week of adventures in the north and south of Laos. It was a perfect place to pull up a book (or your phone/tablet) and read a nice story. Excellent meals, very good service and very comfortable rooms. We had a family with baby next door and honestly never heard them.
