The hotel is located in a beautiful area. Very nice garden. The building itself is a bit old but does have a lot of charms. The interior however is very old and needs a lot of refurbishment!!! The kitchen is very average and the waiting before being served is insane!
On a bike trip with four friends and super exited to overnight at the Hogsback Inn. I last visited when I was 13 years old 44 years ago. Well, very disappointed. The hotel is in dire need of renovations which it apparently is undergoing. There has been little or no maintenance. The inn was apparently let out until recently and in my opinion run into the ground. Restaurant and bar is closed. Breakfast was served and the ladies who made such did well. Again my opinion. Close the inn, renovate and restore both establishment and reputation.
Hogsback Inn was unable to honour our reservation for a refurbished room, stating that the "refurbished modern rooms we have are the river side suites which sadly were fully booked for the period of your stay". We were offered a shabby room, badly in need of refurbishment, with no patio furniture and poor facilities. We forfeited our deposit and stayed at Granny Mouse Guesthouse, which was lovely.
Pulled off Main Road to seek shelter from a blinding rainstorm. The restaurant was cozy and quiet and dry, just what we needed after our drive. We ordered hot gruyere with an apple glaze and buttery toasted ciabatta. Then we went completely off our diet with a peppermint crisp and cream dessert. Well worth the calories!
We visited for a couple of hours primarily to have an evening meal and taste the Local craft beer . Neither dissapointed . The barman was friendly and the waitress very professional . The meal was excellent - my son enjoyed the Lamb pie and we enjoyed a hot (we asked for hot) Lamb Curry . Next time in town we will stay over
