This was probably one of my worst accommodation picks I have ever made. I'm fairly precious about my choice of stays. I failed dismally on this choice We stayed in unit 9. It stank so badly that i had to request another room. There were stains everywhere. The entrance was muddy without sufficient hardened surface to walk. There was no bin either We moved to unit 2 after the receptionist acknowledged that she may have known that they have a problem with that unit. The dining room felt like we had traveled back in time. It was straight out of the 70's. Terrible food. Old dated decor I would never stay at this place again even if you paid me . And to be honest, we were in the middle of a forset. I would have expected some kind of a view. It was very pretty but at that altitude and with those potential views you don't want to have 15 meters of visibility. …
We had a lovely time in Hogsback in the day but on the public holiday on which we arrived the adjacent park was full of party goers, playing loud music and shouting. The next evening the park was quiet but guests in the cottages were playing loud music until after 23h00. Other than that the cottages were clean and spacious and the staff were helpful.
We spent three nights at the hotel. When not cuddled in warm and cozy beds, heated blankets and great linen we were well taken care of by the friendliest staff we could wish for. The food was stunning and delicious. A huge vote of thanks to all the staff who work at this wonderful hotel. The hot chocolate on tap made the visit just that extra bit special. We would definately return. Quaint log fires and beautiful gardens.
We were so excited to stay at a beautiful cottage in Hogsback and was very satisfied. Unfortunately, our weekend as first-timers in this hidden gem of S.A. was spoilt with a bad taste in your mouth at the Arminel, literally and figuratively! There was no host to greet us, instead we were told to go and find our own name in the two split up dining rooms. The quality of the food and the preparation was disgusting. Large prawns, not deveined and full of sand inside, meat not tender with watery sauce, mussels containing pieces of shells in the meat and ice cold food were among the disappointing presentation of food. A selection of puddings is surely reasonable to expect at a X’ mas dinner, not just one? I have verified professional and good service about the Arminel months ago, what went wrong? The attitude off the staff, during payment, was negative and does not reflect good training in the hospitality industry. We will definitely not visit this establishment again and will certainly not recommend it.…
Accommodation is near the village centre within walking distance of most shops etc. Accommodation is very good. Make sure you pre book for dinner at the hotel before you arrive. Hotel meals are a bit costly but are really good quality. Got a tip to book via booking.com to get better rates than booking direct with the hotel. All in all a very nice stay.
