We stayed here overnight for the Gloucester marathon - very close to the start/finish. The room was fine, breakfast standard and fairly good. The main problem, at least during our visit, was the lack of trained staff. Everything in the bar/reception was a problem - making a

We had an excellent lunch, 5 different mains for 7 of us. It was reassuringly not quick and all piping hot and freshly cooked. Good tasty food at a reasonable price. the beer is well kept and the bar friendly. The open fire is fantastic. Clearly they are still working on the

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm delighted to read that you enjoyed the food. We make everything here with the exception of the ice creams and the bread, keeping the food simple and fresh. We intend to keep the atmosphere relaxed, real and genuine even as we progress with the refurbishments and I'm pleased that you enjoy what we have already achieved so far. We have a long journey ahead, which I hope you'll enjoy with us. I look forward to ever evolving the Thatch Inn in to the heart of a wonderful community and hoping you enjoy many an experience with us going forward. Thank you again for your feedback via tripadvisor.

This will be a review of two halves. Look, overall, it was fine for what we wanted on this occasion - but be prepared for a slightly dingy experience just now. I know that some people will be perfectly happy with this so please don't be put off - there are other positives here.

Dear greeneyedmezzosop, Thank you for your review of the Thatch Inn here. You are quite right in that we are starting to refurbish the rooms in February, and know that this will make a considerable difference to the experience for our guests. The room that your brother stayed in was one of concept rooms that the previous owners created some five or six years ago. We intend the rooms to be not too dissimilar to this one but believe we can certainly improve on that design too and I am confident that you will be impressed. The colours that you rightly mention will be a thing of the past very soon, I can assure you. I’m sorry that breakfast was continental only on day 2 of your stay. The chef for that morning experienced some difficulties which was a first for her, and won’t re-occur in the future. Your understanding was appreciated on the day. The team were delighted to read your comments regarding their friendliness and nothing too much to ask for behaviour. Thank you for your wishes of luck and I hope that you might return at some point to see how the refurbishment is going. I’m very confident that you will like the way we are lightening rooms through design and décor and improving the current shower offer. I look forward to welcoming you back and would delight in showing you the wonderful new rooms.

Dear Charles, Thank you for your lovely words regarding your stay and dinner. The room to the rear of the bar where you dined feels great for small parties and actually feels far more private than it is. I’m delighted that you thought the food was great and lovely to see that you thought the breakfast the best ever. As always, we do listen to our customers, so we will keep an ear open to see if perhaps some of our portions are indeed a little on the generous size. I’m sorry that your stay was due to sadder circumstances, but we would love to see you again at a happier time for you all.

Stayed here for two nights with my partner. We were given a very friendly welcome on entering the main bar/reception area, which in itself had a lovely warm atmosphere with an open log fire going, old wooden ceiling beams and pillars. Felt as though you'd been suddenly

Dear BristolSimsy, Thank you for a wonderful review of the Thatch Inn. I’m glad that you recognised the effort the housekeeping team make to ensure the rooms are as clean as they are. Refurbishment of the rooms starts in four weeks and we will complete these in batches as the year progresses. I’m sure you will be delighted with them and we’d love you to come and experience the ‘best fish and chips’ again whilst enjoying the new rooms we create. It’s great that you mention the excellent service as I know acknowledgment of their efforts means a lot to the team. We hope that we might see you again this year so that you can see the improvements we are making to the Thatch as we grow and understand how to make this the gorgeous place that it deserves to be.

We serve two real ales that change weekly. We have Pravha lager, Staropramen Lager and Sharps Offshore Lager. Ciders are Harry Sparrow and Thatchers Haze. We also keep Guinness and a great selection of Bottles and spirits. This answer is based upon our current offer and with a bar refurbishment next year, will increase substantially. I hope this is of help. Regards Marc
