This is our second time staying at excellence and we love it. The staff and service are incredible, I'd like to give a special recommendation for Eddy the tennis instructor, he's absolutely fantastic. Wish we were staying longer so I could take more lessons, cant wait to come back next year. My husband and I debated trying a different resort this year but we realized no other all inclusive would be this good.
This resort was amazing. The best resort we have stayed at over the past few years. From the food to the property to the staff. .WOW all amazing. So many people we encountered went above and beyond during our stay, To name a few. Eddie (Tennis Pro) was awesome. We loved playing water volley each day and he definitely made our day. Erick was our EC beach Concierge. He went above and beyond each day. Loved Juliana, our EC Waitress. Kept the drinks coming and knew what we drank every morning when we arrived at the beach. Emily from agave was very nice, Manuel was out concierge for our EC swin up, Such a nice guy. Definitely an asset to the Resort. Of course the bartenders. We loved Cesar, Diego, Tonatiuh and Sergio. Can't wait to return. If anyone reading this gets a chance to stay at this wonderful resort, do not pass it up. On a scale of 1 to 10, I woiuld give it a 20!. Unitl we return next year!!…
When we were first told by a travel agent friend about the Excellence Brand and how nothing could compare to it in the area,we were frankly sceptical. Some years before we had our expectations blown by the then brand new Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica which happened to be hosting a huge conference which meant it was untypically adults only for the majority of our stay. We were then naively imagined that all Dreams were similarly spectacular and Secret must be even more so. Our friend patiently tried to explain that Excellence was simply in another league and recommended both Excellence Playa Mujeres and Excellence Riviera Cancun as well as the one in Punta Cana. So after Dreams Villamagna and Secrets Silversands failed to wow us and we realised all Dreams and Secrets are not of the same standard we found a great last minute deal at Excellence Playa Mujeres in August. Although we were not thrilled at the time of year and feared a lot of rain, we thought we would give it a go as it was so well priced. All our fears about bad weather and hurricanes and constant rain were luckily unfounded and although it was hotter and more humid than the dry season (Dec - May) it was wonderful weather throughout our stay. The suite we were given without upgrade was spectacular and lived up to all the photos we had seen. Not sure I am a complete fan of a missing wall between bedroom and bathroom as we had first experienced in Dreams Las Mareas but we certainly welcomed back the return of the genius "gobble box" as we called it which allows room service to be discretely delivered into a box which can be accessed from outside the room and by you inside the room without having to make oneself presentable to greet the delivery staff. Of course one can still tip but it is lovely to just not break the relaxation spell and for all your goodies to magically appear. Our suite had an gorgeous chaise longe on the balcony and sliding/folding wall which allowed you to make the huge jacuzzi bath open air should you wish. On arrival we were really tired even though it was about 5pm and still sunny. So we went for a walk on the amazing beach, then grabbed some amazing margaritas and ordered in shrimp fajitas on the all inclusive room service. It felt like we had arrived in heaven - it was all so luxurious and sumptuous and the service was amazing. Sadly shortly after, not realising there was a tiny drop of water on the floor, which I think had come from the condensation on my water glass I went flying on the highly polished and gorgeous marble floor. I managed to save myself on one of the gorgeous gilded chairs but it did give me a huge shock and made me super careful and grateful that I only had a sizeable bruise instead of worse. My husband, who had previous experience of this type of floor explained that slippers (or some sort of footwear) had to be worn at all times as it could be dangerous as I had discovered with bare feet especially after a shower if the floor got wet. We did mention to the management that while the marble floors were divine to look at that people with no previous experience of it, simply had no idea it could be so very treacherous. However this was the only small caveat in our otherwise gorgeous suite and the addition of one's own bottle of premium tipple was a wonderful and welcome touch. My husband loved being able to sip a shot of excellent Anejo Tequila whenever he fancied it, prior to dinner of afterwards on the balcony - just another top quality touch that sets Excellence ahead of the rest. The service was amazing and although the Sushi was amazing and the Margaritas particularly fantastic in Spice Restaurant, it was The Lobster House with its great location close to the beach and amazing food which made it our favourite for all three meals a day. We were treated to the very very best service by restaurant manager Aurelio and his team who made us feel like like royalty at every meal with so many wonderful touches like remembering our preferences and regular orders. It was simply amazing and our favourite had to be the seafood tacos at lunch. Just one thing surpassed and eclipsed all else and that was the fish tacos served on the beach. Just one lady dipping the fish in batter, frying it and presenting us with the most amazing flavour sensation we had ever experienced. In my book any fish taco is a delight but these were really something different and truly exceptional and to eat them with all the trimmings on the beach was a once in a lifetime experience. One small thing did sour our visit and like my slipping on the drop of water on the marble floor - it was my own fault really. I had been to the room to change before lunch and as soon as I got down to the beach to meet my husband so we could go to lunch together, I had a terrible feeling that I had forgotten to lock the combination safe. As our room was quite a distance from the beach I hurried back leaving my husband at the restaurant on the way and although it could have been only 15 minutes at very most there was about $70 (in Mexican Pesos) missing from the safe. It was lucky as also in the safe were credit cards and some other cash in US dollars in another container as well as our passports, phone and ipad. So it could have been a huge catastrophe instead of our tip money for which I am very grateful but my biggest complaint was that there seemed to be very little interest from the hotel management or indeed our travel rep. I know key cards can be tracked and perhaps there even might have been some CCTV but no interest was expressed, possibly as our stay was nearly at an end. Frankly I was horrified that such a top class hotel really displayed such indifference as I recall years ago in a hotel in Cancun we came back to find our belongings looked as if they had been gone through and disturbed though nothing was missing an hotel detectives arrived hot foot to our suite and we were assured the matter would be thoroughly investigated. I have to say even if this was not really a matter of concern for the other hotel at least we felt like our concerns had been addressed and our comments treated with gravitas, understanding, respect and urgency. We then had to change more money and it cast a shadow over our last night and following day. To add insult to injury our departure was a little delayed and so as a waitress passed by with a tray of sparkling wine flutes which she was offering to people, I asked could I have one and she said these were only for ARRIVING customers. As any melancholic guest, being torn from their holiday of pampered privilege and facing a long journey home is only too aware, this is a sensitive time as one is literally being thrown out of paradise into the mean non-inclusive streets of real life so this particularly stung out of normal proportion. Of course I could have ordered a drink myself from the bar but we were on tenterhooks waiting for our driver and one last glass of bubbles would have been a lovely adieu to our life of luxury but t'was not to be. So while our overall stay was just heaven, the ambience, the lavish decor, the amazing suite, the fabulous coffee shop with tempting savoury and sweet treats and gourmet beverages, the top shelf drinks, wonderful room service with hassle free delivery box, all that gorgeous Sushi, those precious three meals a day at The Lobster House, the outstanding service especially by Aurelio and his team, the incredible beach with famed Playa Mujeres sheltered micro climate and being spoiled rotten was marred - just a touch - by just a few unfortunate incidents. Of course we have been meaning to return and indeed have booked to go to sister hotel Excellence Riviera Cancun next year but the real reason is just the pricing between Excellence Playa Mujeres and other very fine luxury hotels which we also were able to find good deals on. Yes indeed none of these many Riviera Maya Hotels that we have visited over the years have had such gorgeous standard suites, never had our own bottle of top quality in room tequila, none have had that unforgettable authentic fish taco taste as the ones we had on our sun loungers on the beach that day and indeed few have had the exquisite Marguaritas, sushi bar, picture perfect beach, gorgeous room service with delivery box, gourmet all inclusive coffee s and impeccable service and superb cuisine of the Lobster House ... but we have been able to enjoy an experience which was quite close to this one for quite a lot less. Of course the market is changing and recently I noticed the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya's prices seemed to have shot up to be around the same at some times of the year as Excellence Playa Mujeres - so of course in this instance you do not get what you pay for as Excellence Playa Mujeres is, in our opinion simply in another class. But if you can snag a holiday in say Sensimar Seaside Suites or Secrets Maroma Beach or the previously reasonable prices of the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya for a quarter less of the price - and in that way afford an extra holiday and meaning 5 instead of four trips - you have to ask yourself can you really enjoy yourself 25% more than at another 5 star hotel? I always look out for a nice price at Excellence Playa Mujeres but until then I prefer to shop around and will enjoy seeing if Excellence Riviera Cancun - who is kinder on the pocket - will live up to her extravagantly gorgeous and sublime sister.…
Highly recommend! Amazing food, exceptional service and great fun! Pool and beach were relaxing and drinks are fantastic. Would definitely visit again. Breakfast buffet, Mexican dinner buffet and gin and tonic cart were the best.
First time in Mexico and couldn't have picked a better resort to enjoy the relaxation and beauty of the Mexican coast. There was no lack of food options, catering for all people (great knews, especially for me as I am a very fussy eater). The Hotel offeres a large range of activities for all people, from pool games to beach and sea sports, there is no shortfall of things to do. My trip was further improved by the very attentive and lovely staff! In particular water volley ball with Eddie became one of my daily highlights! Thank you I will be back!
