Les Magnolias is a beautiful and charming 22 bedroom boutique hotel, set in the tranquil Aveyron countryside in the ancient village of Plaisance, in the Occitane region of South West France. It was once the family home of the famous French poet Paul Valery. It’s lovely restaurant focuses on semi-gastronomic cuisine using fresh, local and seasonal products. It is the perfect location for various guests including couples, families, cyclists, bikers and corporate groups. Les Magnolias is also the home of Cycling Magnolias, a popular guided and self-guided cycling holiday operation where clients enjoy the idyllic and varied cycling environment. Each room is en suite and beautifully styled in old stone and wood, with modern facilities including satellite television, a refrigerator and hairdryer. Free Wifi is available in the public areas and most rooms. The hotel's outdoor covered and heated pool is set against the backdrop of beautiful rural scenery. The new Pétanque course in the stunning terraced gardens with fabulous views of the rural countryside is also now open to all guests. Open from April to October each year.

Detailed Reviews
Seldom in life does one have the pleasure to enjoy a surprise as enjoyable as our recent visit to this wonderful hotel and cycling location. The biking opportunities can be as simple or as challenging as one wishes, with very good quality of normal and electric bikes. The hotel is a wonderfully restored gem of old world charm, with well priced and comfortable rooms. The food was superb. Where the place comes alive is the people and the location. Plaisance is surrounded by beautiful countryside and stunning views, with some of the prettiest backroads one could imagine. However it is the people, Claudia and her team, that transform the experience to extraordinary. They exude a palpable sense that customer enjoyment is everything, going far beyond the expected to improve the quality of your stay. I cannot recommend a visit highly enough, you will not regret it.

I write this for the bicycle riders who are looking for a wonderful place to ride and have a wonderful hostess. I have been coming here for several years and can truly say it gets better every time. The Tarn area has some amazing and lightly traveled roads that will make all levels of riders enjoying it. Cladia is a great hostess and will go overboard to help you enjoy your stay. The hotel has a fleet of e-bikes for those that want them and Cladia will arrange a route for all to enjoy. I could not recommend this higher. Do yourself and friends a favor and vacation here, you will find yourself, like me, coming back year after year

Lovely bike rides along the Tarn valley, and kayaking down it. Great visits to Albi and some beautiful small towns along the river. Claudia is a wonderfully informative and hardworking host who went out of her way to make sure we got the most out of our stay. Food was good too. We loved it

A charming hotel without a restaurant worthy of the name, what a shame!
The setting and the environment are magnificent, but the meal is of poor quality.
The meal was tasteless, with uncooked food, unacceptable for the price asked.
The excuse of "organic" products does not justify in any way that they are not highlighted and that we end up in bland and tasteless canteen cuisine.

Response from Claudia Koch Ley, Owner at Les Magnolias
Responded 4 weeks ago

There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience at Les Magnolias. It starts with the owner/proprietor Claudia who is absolutely delightful and leaves nothing to chance and does everything to make your stay an exceptional one. All of the staff are equally pleasant and helpful. The hotel is an amazing old building that has been completely modernized including air conditioning in some of the rooms. As for the cycling the routes are all beautiful and the roads are very quiet, some days we would on,y see about 10 vehicles. She has a fleet of bikes including some new quality Karkoff e-bikes that are perfect for the terrain of the Tarn River valley. I enjoyed it so much I will likely be back.

Claudia of Les Magnolias has created a formula for a lovely holiday in sleepy country Plaisance. The cycling in and around the area is hard to beat with its lush greenery, steep valleys, rolling hills and quaint French villages. If you don't like riding or need a break you can relax inside the refurbished old buildings or laze around the pool or under the trees. On top of this there is the food which is gourmant. We had an enchanting stay and would love to return. Congratulations Claudia and the friendly team for such a special holiday. Tim and Jan Gray (Australia)

I'm sorry that I did not have the same experience as the immediately preceeding reviewer. The room was OK but there was no hot water. The food varied between just acceptable and awful, and the staff were either garrulous or not present at all. Good pool bordered by work in progress. Not value for money.

This wonderful hotel is set in beautiful old buildings that have been restored and renovated. The rooms are comfortable and the food in both the Brasserie and the restaurant was excellent. The fantastic chef came to the table to discuss the food and see that all was 100%. The owner is very hands on and has a great way with guests. A relaxed atmosphere.
They offer the most incredible cycling experience that we arranged in advance with the owner. The weather was very hot and the pool at the hotel is an added bonus.
