Swamp Stop River Camp is an original, authentic Delta camp that is a locals favorite. Renowned for its charm, great food and excellent scenery, it is situated dramatically on the Okavango River, 50km south of Mohembo, and 330km North of Maun on the Shakawe road. It offers 12 excellently priced, airconditioned, clean rooms with ensuite bath, shower and toilet, together with minibar and bbq facilities. We also have a large campsite with toilets and showers. Our central bar area serves ice cold beer and a family style menu inlcuding english breakfast, burgers, BLT's, and steaks and more. We have a revamped fleet of boats available for doing transfers to Seronga or day trips for fishing or to nearby islands. Our flagship boat "Loose Goose" take about 20 guests and is perfect for sundowner cruises. We also offer trips into the Okavango Delta where guests can overnight at an affordable Tented Camp on a Private island that features ensuite acomodations in Safari Tents where guests can either opt for self catered meals or full board meals.

Out of the way very peaceful place right on the edge of the delta. Clean tidy comfortable rooms and pleasant staff. Food is basic but well prepared and tasty. Excellent boat cruises and Mokoro rides are available with lunch on a local island. Observation deck where ere you can have a relaxing drink and observe the wild life in the delta including many species of birds, monitor lizards and the occasion elephant.
Swimming pools and wildlife make this a lovely place to relax and chill.

The reviews on this place are all over. I agree with most. The food was pretty good with a lot of emphasis on chicken. Ambiance in the courtyard area, bar area was very cool since it is right on the river. I guess Crocs could walk right up if they wanted. The rooms left a lot to be desired. Very small, dated and leave your shoes on in the shower. Our guide had to use the tents to sleep in and reported no A/C or hot water. The 6 hours swamp tour with lunch was great. A highlight of our safari. Its a real swamp experience if that is what u are looking for.

Our party arrived midnt; rooms very good; staff friendly, helpful and well-organised. Our mokoro trip was very enjoyable; we saw some interesting wildlife, had a pleasant, short bush walk and a nice al fresco lunch. We were also lucky in that there were surprisingly few mosquitoes, contrary to our expectations and others' experience. We did not feel we were being exploited but rather that we were guests. Hopefully, Swamp Stop can continue to maintain this high standard of service.

I had an excellent 4 night stay at Swamp Stop. I saw some negatieve reviews but they can be discarded as the place is under new management since last year. Rooms are clean and airconditioned. The public area is well maintained and includes bar, restaurant, swimming pools and a viewing deck. Staff is friendly and authentic. Dinner is buffet style and very tasty with choice of meats and vegetables. I did the boating and that was a nice experience with lots of bird sightings and a beautiful sunset! All in all a place I would recommend with a good price/quality ratio.

I had access to a car and went to Tsodilo Hills (1.30h), the Louvre of the desert. If you are at Swamp Stop, I would highly recommend to make the effort. Remote and very special.

Room Tip: Bar closes at 21.00. It is an African river experience, not a party place.

Do not stay here!!
Reception staff was extremely unfriendly when we arrived early afternoon on Jan 1st.
The whole place is run down and has not seen renovations for at least 10 years. It seems they are resting on old laurels and their location next to the river.
We camped - the site we were given did not have one single level areawhich made it uncomfortable to camp esp for the roof tents. It was half ploughed up for no apparent reason. There are no washing basins at the camp site so you either have to hunch next to the tap or carry your dishes a far way to a washing facility which we were unable to find. Mind you, there are big signs everywhere that scare you to not even dare to use the ablutions for dish washing but no signs to guide to the dishwashing area. There are also a lot of signs that warn guests not to leave the theor cars unlocked and that the lodge does not take any responsibility for anything! So many signs in fact that guests have to wonder what is going on in this unwelcoming lodge.
The whole camp site only has one ablution block with 2 showers and 2 toilets which is way too little for such a big camp. All were dirty, toilet roll holders falling off the wall and no toilet paper half the time.
When we asked for the wifi password we were told that only one lady knows it and she is not available to help as 'she had to go rest because she was tired'... This was at 4pm on Jan 1st...! So guests do not get service when staff is hung over or feels like sleeping during normal work hours. At this time we also asked whether we can book a sunset cruise but were told that they are unsure whether there will be a guide seeing that Jan 1st is 'a public holiday'. Later we were able to book and go on our 1 hour sunset cruise (specifically saying 1 hour!). The guide with name Lems was great and extremely knowledgable and gave us great service but kept us on the river longer than 1 hour. So when paying our account on the day of departure we found they had charged us for 2 hours sunset cruise!! After querying this and a lengthy argument they removed it (the manager sitting at the reception desk did not look up even once or apologize). The cherry on the top of this horrible place is
that they hit you with tons of levies and taxes on your final account! They do not announce on their website or in any communication when we booked that their prices are excluding everything!!
Like other people have reviewed before this place makes you feel like they do you a huge favor to accommodate you! Do not support this unwelcoming lodge ripping off tourists!

Swamp Stop is a delightful escape, boasting a lovely garden filled with huge trees that provide ample shade—perfect for those hot days. The lush greenery creates a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to relax and unwind.

One of the highlights is the presence of friendly monkeys that can be seen playing in the trees, adding a playful touch to the natural beauty of the surroundings. It’s fun to watch them while sipping on a drink from the bar.

The viewing deck offers stunning vistas, allowing guests to take in the beauty of the landscape while enjoying refreshments. Whether you’re looking to unwind with a good book or socialize with friends, this spot has something for everyone.

Overall, Swamp Stop is a charming destination that combines a lovely garden, plenty of shade, and a fantastic bar with great views. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful day in nature!

We chose to spend our 2020 Christmas break at Sepupa Swamp Stop and stayed from 23 - 27 Dec 2020. Beautiful self catering meru tent accommodation, right on the river. All the properties of a perfect December break away. Unfortunately the managers used every possible opportunity to squeeze money out of everyone in the group. No matter which way you turned, an additional fee was added to the bill. In fact no official invoice was ever presented and no receipt ever offered. Prices were just made up at random and everything came at a premium. It is really sad that the managers abuse the opportunity when visitors do arrive during very difficult times, to try to make up for all their losses during the Covid-19 lockdown.
What is even more sad is that the fact that after paying the guide who took us out on the river in our own boat during his off times, had to hand over his privately earned money to the owners, on their persistence. What a sad and desperate situation at Swamp Stop. The managers made sure that we will never visit them again and also make sure to warn all prospective guest to rather stay away.

It’s not often on my travels I book somewhere that makes me fell like, I’ve been hoodwinked!!
Location is good but that’s about it, Accommodation old fishing camp, needs a drastic upgrade, 5 rooms have river views not much of a view though as it’s on a bend in the river and surrounded by dense reed, aside from birds, croc’s and otter’s don’t expect to see much, the remaining rooms are at the back in a sorry state. The camp is an over grown mess with thorns everywhere, all types. Ablutions in the distance are run down, fire pits broken large piles of leaves and rubbish piled around, hello snakes and rats. Forget using a ground tent. The owner seems to use the excuse he has just purchased the place and is slowly doing it up, well there is no evidence of any improvements taking place, ignore the pictures online they certainly don’t match what I saw… As there is nothing to do at swamp stop you will have to do one of the hugely overpriced activities, the pricing is ridiculous, all day boat hire will set you back 5000 Pula, this is just a rip off!!! if you are only travelling a few weeks and trying to squeeze as much as possible in, on a budget or just won’t spend this silly amount of money head for Kasane the game viewing is awesome, loads of different activities with all the equipment and the prices are 1/3 or less.
If you are going to go to swamp stop I strongly advise you to have everything in writing and to fully understand what you are getting for the price quoted. I personally wouldn’t commit to any trips before arrival.
Having been there I would recommend giving it a miss!!!.

Swamp Stop is a hidden gem. On the banks of the Delta. We are currently camping here. Campsites are nestled among the trees, thus shade all day. Every site has running water, electricity and a fire pit. With stunning views. Bathrooms are very basic, but clean and with HOT running water. The reception area has a bar and little restaurant. Again, with stunning views. Free Wi-Fi!
Receptionist Mercy is very friendly and very helpful. Dan, the guide, took us on a boat trip this morning. Really nice!!!
This place is really lovely and deserves more credit!!
Kids are currently swimming in the sparkling blue swimming pool!

Only draw back is the ROAD from Maun to Sepupa. Eish!! Pothole after pothole. We literally drove next to the side of the road, on the sand, most of the way. It took us close to five hours to drive 320 km.

Come to Swap Stop- camping is fantastic!
