Steynshoop Valley Lodge is a luxury, child friendly, self-catering lodge, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg valley, near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range and of the valley. This unique lodge, an hour's drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, falls within a world heritage site. There is an attractive homestead and a surrounding quadrangle of buildings which includes a walled kitchen garden and an antique Cape-style fowl run. The homestead has several large, safety fenced, adjoining water features and the overall ambience is of an early Transvaal farmstead, in keeping with the history of the estate. The homestead has 5 bedrooms, all en-suite. The 5 adjoining cottage units each have one bedroom. Three of the units have additional daybeds for children. There are numerous sporting and recreation such as an all-weather floodlit tennis court, an "infinity," safety fenced, swimming pool and a full-size billiard room. Additionally there are volleyball, badminton and croquet facilities. There is a sports/entertainment area with an additional swimming pool, braai facilities and three thatched gazebos with large tables and benches/chairs. It is ideal for individual and small group getaways, conferences and retreats, with a natural, peaceful and refreshing ambience. The estate includes a 50-acre forest and borders the proclaimed Magaliesberg Nature Reserve, which has abundant natural bush and game. The immediately adjoining Steynshoop Mountain Lodge, which is under common ownership with Steynshoop Valley Lodge, includes a portion of the Nature Reserve and has almost a kilometre of the mountain range above Steynshoop Valley Lodge. It has extensive wild game, thousands of natural protea trees and large areas of indegenous forest with magnificent trees and walks. Guests at Steynshoop Valley Lodge may hike on the trail at the Mountain Lodge. By prior arrangement and accompanied by a guide from Steynshoop Mountain Lodge, they may take longer hikes over the adjoining extensive properties owned by the Mountain Club of South Africa, which include famous sites such as Castle Gorge (where there is a perennial waterfall ) Birdlife is extensive. There are frequent sightings of eagles and vultures from a nearby cliff colony and guests can hear jackal and hyena cries, baboon barks and other sounds of the surrounding wildlife. Further accommodation and facilities are available for larger groups at the immediately adjoining Steynshoop Mountain Lodge.

My mom had a meeting with a client nearby, so the 2 of us stayed in the Valley Lodge for a Friday & Saturday. Pieter, the manager, was friendly and helpful. The cottage had an incredible view of the mountains. Our cottage (Arbour cottage) had everything we needed, a full kitchen, 2 heaters and warm blankets. We loved to sit on the patio and watch the monkeys :) On the Saturday we even managed to hike up to the top of the mountains, a strenuous walk but the view was 100% worth it. It was beautiful, walking first through forest and then through multicolored grass/ferns. I strongly recommend Steynshoop Valley Lodge, if you have business in the area then definitely take advantage and stay for an extra day and breath in the fresh air.We were completely isolated and our cottage was not cleaned throughout our stay, which made us feel better given the current pandemic. Absolutely fabulous. 100% recommend.

I recently stayed at Steynshoop Valley Lodge and Pieter and his team really made me feel welcome and at home. The setting of the lodge is amazing with a wonderful view of the mountain. I enjoyed being so close to nature and hearing Baboon troops in the distance and listening to the more than 100 different bird species in the area. At the lodge you can also see the monkeys play in the nearby trees. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Just over 1 hour away from the city it is an ideal place for a quick breakaway. Thanms guys will definately visit you again.

My Wife and I experienced a top-to-bottom all inclusive service from the Lodge and all staff members.

Our Wedding was planned and conducted to the highest standard and we left feeling like the most important guests to ever host a wedding at the Venue.

The Lodge itself provides luxury accommodation and includes all the necessary amenities. It features splendid views with an array of activities to provide amusement to guests of all ages.

Thank you Pieter and Hanneli for exceptional service and welcoming nature.

I would definitely recommend the Valley Lodge as a Wedding Venue or a fun weekend away.

The Valley Lodge is a quaint self-catering accommodation with all your basic essentials. We stayed in the Corner Cottage and were quite happy with it, but I wouldn’t stay for more than 2-3 days and improvements can be made.
This is not a luxury Lodge as advertised and we expected a bit more for our money. Besides the bathroom towels (which were lovely and soft) and the kitchen extras (like tea, coffee and rusks, which were a nice addition), the bedding was old, thin and had stains on them. The sleeper bed in the lounge (which was suppose to be the couch) was also something to get used to while watching TV. A better orientation upon arrival is also needed, as we were only given a key and had to figure everything else out on our own. The access to the Mountain Lodge was nice, but the hike was a bit surprising, considering that it was quite dangerous in areas. I personally wouldn’t send children or the older generation up there. Some routes in particular are one-way only, in my opinion, and turning around might not be an option once you up there. We combined the yellow and red routes, as suggested by the Manager. Finally, the dirt road to get there is not ideal for a city car and a high clearance vehicle should be strongly suggested.

We had a wonderful experience staying at the Valley Lodge. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking alongside the various animals on the farm, which made it even more special. The staff was wonderful, very helpful and friendly. We especially enjoyed the activities, which included our hike up the mountain, the tennis court and swimming pools.

I stayed at Steynshoop Valley Lodge for a business occasion. It is such a beautiful place, with magnificent views of the Magaliesberg valley. The architecture is Cape Dutch and very impressive. There is lots to do when you are not working, you can even go hiking at the adjoining Steynshoop Mountain Lodge property. The service, the facilities and the attention to detail at Steynshoop Valley Lodge were all great and i will certainly return for a leisure stay. I cant recommend it enough as a relatively unknown gem so close to Johannesburg and Pretoria.

We spent a week at the lodge with a group of friends. It is a beautiful place, ideally positioned up against the Magaliesberg with views down the valley. Wonderful Cape Dutch architecture and only 70 mins from the city. Lots to do, walks up the mountain to mountain pools, tennis, cycling and swimming. Lovely sunsets and outdoor showers. Kids ran free and had a ball. Friendly reception. Will definitely go back

Corner cottage, neat and quiet. Lovely relaxing night getaway. Feels like one is in the Cape. Gravel Road a bit longer than expected and a bukkie was useful. Curious to try out the hike routes, view would be stunning. Lodge is pretty but could do with a refresh.
