We spent a weekend here and once again we had a rewarding weekend. The sent of the flowers revitalizes your soul. The food is fabulous and John goes out of his way to make you feel right at home. The fudge is a special treat in the rooms and the fact that you see your salad growing in the afternoon before you eat it is lovely. Nighttime Bon fires ended a beautiful night. Stay in room 5 it's the best.
We spent a couple of days at Quiet Mountain recently and were completely seduced by the setting, the impeccable service, and the superb and often innovative cuisine, all presented with panache and flair by owner Jon who was the most welcoming, helpful and witty host, sharing his home and its varied, exquisitely selected furnishings with both poise and trust. The grounds are relaxing and natural in the best sense and the freedom to walk safely to the top of the mountain an added bonus - O.K. we didn't get more than half-way, but what a pleasure in South Africa to be so free. Our lodge, number 5, was more of a country cottage, with front and rear patios, a log fire always ready and room service just a call away.
What a lovely stay. If you are looking for a sanctuary to quiet the mind, free the spirit and be in complete tranquility, then Quiet Mountain is the place to go. This is a place we will make our little secret getaway again and again.
Place very quickly grew on me and had one of the most relaxing weekends ever. This is the place to go when you just want to unwind. Food a treat too nom nom. We will definitely be going back one day soon.
We recently decided to take a 2 day break and go to Quiet Mountain. I had heard so much about it, I wanted to see it. and experience it for myself. Although disappointed by the rooms, i.e. a bit too small and plain for the price, the place is excellent. The host Jon is a character of note and a lot of fun. The food was excellent and it was a grab break. I do however feel it is a little pricey for what one gets.
John is a convivial host and immediately makes you feel at home. The gardens seem to stretch on forever and the friendly Jersey cows that love being patted (because John said that they were hand reared), we loved. Add some tortoises to the mix, a few Jack Russells' and some very friendly cats that seek you eat at dinner and you have the picture. Combine that with total comfort, superb food, no dreadful buffets and that is Quiet Mountain Lodge. Dinner is a 4 course meal served in a suitably dramatic dining room - we loved it. A beautifully set table just does it for me. I'm not writing anything that John doesn't already know about - I raved about the prawns that he cooked my husband and I on the last night of our stay - all the other guests had left after breakfast that…
My wife avd I just spent three days at Quiet Mountain, recommended to us, by some locals. Over 34 years owners John and Terrence have created a very comfortable oasis of beautiful gardens, a thatched roofed Great House and an old farmhouse in the midst of 370 acres at the base of an ancient mountain ridge, about ninety minutes north of Johannesburg. With nine roms, The common areas exude old world charm, decorated with the owners' eclectic touch. The food was the best we have had on our trip. Our suite, Room 5, had four rooms and two patios with great views of the mountain. The very reasonable rates included a wonderful dinner and full breakfast, plus early morning coffee. If you are looking for a glitzy 5 star atmosphere, stay in Johannesburg, but if you want a truly unique…
Quiet Mountain is my favourite place to go to without exception. John and Terence are wonderful hosts and the food is always exceptional. Have been going there for many years and nothing has ever been less than excellent. Highly recommended. One thing to remember is that children are not catered for, it is just a place to relax for couples or friends
We first went to Quiet Mountain in 1997 for our 1st wedding anniversary and have been back about eight times - the last was with six lady friends sans our husbands - ( sorry John... not so Quiet Mountain..) - absolutely exquisite food, gardens , rooms and environs... will be back in Jan...
