I can not believe the luck we had, finding Sunset beach guest house! It's absolutely fantastic and it was a lovely start on our trip in the Cape town area.

We stayed at Sunset beach in Kommetjie for four nights in February/March and really, really loved it and hated to have to leave after only 4 days. Kommetjie is a great place to stay if you need to relax or if you want to explore the Western cape area. Cape point is only a short drive away.

The guest house is the kind of house a well off aunt would own, and we were all reminiscing the summer place that my late grandmother owned. The location is fantastic, it's right on the beach and you can walk barefoot all day. The rooms are very cute with to die for views of Sunset beach, and it was so relaxing going to sleep listening to the waves in the back ground. The gardens are beautifully kept and very clean. I'd live there if I could. The photos of the home page describe the place just as it is and I don't understand where the negative reviews I've read here on Tripadvisor are coming from. The rooms are not huge and the decor is shabby chic, but if you like the style in the photos, you are going to love the place.

Our hosts Dave and Charlotte are the nicest and they bend over backwards for you to feel at home. We had a small mishap with our rental car and within minutes Dave had it fixed! That's the kind of courtesy and service you won't get when you stay in large hotels. Charlotte also helped me arrange scuba diving locally.

I emailed the guest house directly a few weeks before we arrived, asking about vacancy. Charlotte replied very fast, so the booking process was a great experience too.

The reason we stayed there was to celebrate my mum's birthday, and Charlotte had arranged for flowers, chocolate and a bottle of chilled champagne in her room on our arrival. A great touch which my mum loved!

The breakfast is great, you get a lot of choices and it's cooked to your liking. You'll also get spoiled by fresh cup cakes or croissants every morning. The staff is all very nice and we really felt at home at Sunset beach guest house. We are definitely staying there again, hopefully for a longer period than only 4 nights.

We found this place by luck - Sunset Beach Guest House on the beach at Kommetjie - literally on the beach (water's a bit cold); what sold us was the kid's toy box in the family room, but we could even join in the evening sunset wedding the one day.
" come for dinner single, go home married " we were told - must be the cheapest, most romantic & legal wedding venue.

Great vibe, hosts v. pleasant (check out 'Greenwood Guides') and very useful chef on board.

Go back again material. Rooms beachy stunning - great beach & sea-view, pretty close to cape town central, yet in small fishing village.

We booked this house to get married and had a lovely day. The rooms are all so pretty and cosy, the breakfast is good and the people working there are great. But watch out if you leave you luggage for safe storage. We found ALL out weddingstuff to be stolen the day before the wedding because the manager hadn't kept it locked away!!!! Huge dissapointment of course. Location great, lovely beach, peaceful. Would book it again anytime (but take care of my luggage my self...)

We found a picture of the Sunset Beach House in an interior magazine and fell in love with it. That's where we wanted to stay. The Sunset Beach House has a wonderful location, right on the beach of Kommetjie which is a good hide out to explore Cape Town and environment. Unfortunately it is clear that the owners of the house treat it as a money making machine. It needs maintenance, love and care. We didn't mind that it needs a lik of paint here and there, but did feel annoyed by the fact that it was so dirty. The kitchen downstairs were breakfast was prepared, was dirty and greasy. Major problem is also management and personel. They do as they please and definitely need more guidance. Breakfast for example was served by a man wearing a sweather that was so filthy we lost appetite. Dirty cups, dirty tools ... are nog picked up. When we left the last night, we came downstairs and found candles still burning ! Breakfast itself is quite poor. One day we were happy to discover they were serving pancakes. Unfortunately, there were not enough pancakes for all guests. Such a shame that this beautiful place is being so badly managed.

Just south of Cape Town central, we found this guest house in most of the guide books - so gave it a try - and what a pleasure. Right on the beach, friendly hosts, our own personal chef too !
Our kids enjoyed the toy box in the family room - and what stunning views - we were able to walk from the lounge onto the beach & into (the very cold) sea.

The photos are far from the truth. We found the place to be drab and neglected. The food was so-so, but the wines great. I would advise the owners to upgrade the management. They made it feel like some third-rate establishment. Service was exceptionally bad. At the astronomic prices they charge, the service should be first-class. We could have gotten better service at a three-star hotel, but we wanted to get out of the main city and tourist areas. This establishment will not see us again.

Loved it here, really a great get away, far from the main tourist areas, so a great honeymoon or couples place. Stunning location right on the beach, lovely guest house which is beautifully decorated in beach house style!! So peaceful, the chef was really great, preparing wonderful fresh meals for the handful of guests. If you like to feel alone , without the need for constant attention from staff, then this is the place to go. We stayed here for only a couple of nights , which was perfect, giving us time to explore the area, we went to the Cape of Good Hope from here, wonderful driving , especially Chapmans Peak, and returned to watch the sun set from our terrace, heavenly!!

On my own after a busy conference, I loved this place. The unspoilt beach, long walks with great views, exotic birds, the sound of waves as you fall asleep and of course the sunset. The classic beach house style decor made it even more relaxing. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had everything I wanted in my room but I didn't even turn the TV on - just chilled out in a beautiful place. And coming from or going to Cape Town, be sure to drive at least once via Chapman's Peak - it's spectacular.

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Guest Lodge for a few nights before we started our trip along the Garden Route. We found it to be very beautiful and very well maintained, and we found the staff to be lovely and the meals delicious (we only had breakfast, though other meals were available some nights of the week). It was quite expensive, but we enjoyed it.

What a wonderful location - right on the beach and with lovely views of the ocean!
Dave was a great host - showed us the rooms and organised a horse ride on Noordhoek beach the following day. (Sleepy Hollow horse rides)
The rooms are white white white! The only room in which I've ever needed to wear my sunglasses! :-) Decor is shabby chic, and typical beach house, nicely organised. We did enjoy our stay, but my only gripes were the Queen mattress which was saggy and needs replacing - and the price. For R900 per person per night (and not per room!), this is expensive for its class of accommodation - there are much better value places to stay.
Choose a twin room, and a room with some light excluding blinds, and this would be a great relaxed beach retreat! :-)
