My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful 2 night stay at Mashpi Lodge.

Set in a remote location in Ecuador's Cloud Forest, it's no wonder this property has been rated by National Geographic as one of the - 50 Unique Lodges of the World.

With just 25 luxury guest rooms, this luxury eco lodge is like no other you will every experience.

Rooms were amazing with floor to ceiling views of the cloud forest out your windows. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere in a dense jungle.

The staff were so friendly and the naturalist guides extremely knowledgeable and experienced. Your entire stay is filled from morning to evening with outdoor hikes and adventures.

If you love nature and exploring remote places, this luxury resort hidden in the jungle, must be added to your "Bucket List."

This property is owned by Metropolitan Touring in Ecuador, who organized our stay along with their 2 other luxury properties in Ecuador. We also enjoyed an incredible 5 day Galapagos Cruise aboard one of their very own Expedition Ships.

Stayed here for 2 nights, but wish it had been 4 nights. I know it is pricy, but it was worth every penny. If you can, spend the extra money to stay at least 3 nights. It was a wondrous, gorgeous stay that I will never forget.

From the welcome drink and snacks to the last moment our luggage was put in our car to leave, every moment at Mashpi was one to remember! The rooms were perfect in every way, with delicious local fresh fruit for us to snack on as well as truffles with turndown service in the evening. Our guide Gabriel was the best guide I’ve had anywhere. He was full of energy, kind, and full of information. Another guide on our night walk was also amazing at finding frogs. His name was Nixon.

The hardest part was trying to figure out what to do as a group. I’m afraid of heights so the sky bike was a bit terrifying and I passed on the Dragonfly. The hikes were great. Beautiful waterfalls and so much nature watching at the nature center. I could have spent the entire day just watching wildlife at the nature center. Don’t miss the hummingbirds! We did a 6 am slot here and had breakfast while watching the hoards (and I’m not exaggerating) of hummingbirds! They were buzzing around my head in all their unreal beauty!

Now, let’s talk about the food. Oh my! It was simply fabulous! Some of the best meals I’ve had. They even made me hot chocolate with non dairy milk which was hands down the best hot chocolate I’ve had which isn’t hard to believe since Ecuador produces such delicious chocolate. I’m salivating just thinking about my meals there.

If you are considering visiting Mashpi, book it. Don’t delay.

Every aspect of our stay at Mashpi was exceptional. The rooms, food, service, guides, and activities are simply world-class. The modern, well appointed rooms have wall to ceiling windows looking out into the cloud forest which sets the tone. For a remote location, they manage to bring in all the necessary supplies for a fantastic kitchen and bar. The highlight, of course, is the amazing and broad set of activities that are available - for every one, we were assigned our own guide for our family, which I think is the norm (a guide for every group of guests). One of the most unique activities is the canopy tram - an open car tram that traverses a couple kilometers of the cloud forest. Because of the small number of guests, they can and do stop the tram whenever there is something for a guest to see. We had the fortune of see an eagle in a nearby treetop consuming its prey. They stopped the tram and backed it up just for us for several minutes. (We also waited a few minutes because the guests ahead of us were near some howler monkeys.).

The lodge is very popular, so hard to book, but I highly recommend it, especially for families.

Just as they said on National Geographic, this place is unique and amazing. Everything is absolutely top notch here.

The driver that picked us up in Quito, which was part of the price, was a great driver, and very professional. Took about 3.5 hours from the Hilton.

We pulled up, masks were required by everyone at all times, we went through an ozone tunnel and hands were sanitized. Even though this place is in the middle of nowhere, they made sanitizing everything a top priority.

When you walk in they take your bags to your room and you go through and introduction talk which tells you about the lodge.

You then can get lunch and rest until your first hike at 3pm. The hikes are all based on what you want out of your stay. We did 2-3 per day. Our guide was Gabriel. Former bodybuilder, still jacked lol, excellent English speaker. Very professional and catered the hikes around our fitness levels.

During the hikes we saw hummingbirds, rare colored birds, giant guinea pigs, spiders and more. Did some playing in waterfalls too. Make sure to do the Dragon Fly. It’s extra, but well worth the view.

The room itself was spotless with floor to ceiling Windows. Very luxurious. Great bed, bathroom and large. Wifi was spotty, but worked when needed. Would have loved a TV to go to sleep too but understand why they don’t have them.

The food was amazing. Probably the fanciest food we’ve ever had. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included. The bar has happy hour from 6:30-7:30pm. Bartender is friendly and makes some very unique drinks. Thanks to Raul and Gonzalo, awesome restaurant staff.

Everyone was so helpful and anything you need they take care of. One of the best overall experiences we have ever had.

This Nat Geo designated lodge is a must visit! It’s about a three-hour, long and twisting drive from Quito, but well worth the effort. The lodge itself is a beautiful destination. The rooms are large and airy and the massive windows take in the lush cloud forest canopy surrounding the facility. Wildlife abounds and on your nature hikes, you will be rewarded with abundant glimpses of various birds, frogs, and other creatures. The Dragonfly tram is a must-do on your visit, unless, of course, you have a fear of heights. The cable car trip is over a mile long and at times, you are elevated off the forest floor by over 600 feet. You can try the sky bike tram first and get a feel for your tolerance of heights. If you’re ok with that, then the dragonfly lets you take the next step and soar like an actual dragonfly or bird. The entire lodge is extremely clean and the dining space is dramatic and a great place to enjoy an absolutely delicious organic smoothy. In fact, I really wish I’d enjoyed more drinks while we were there, but there is so much to do in a short time. We spent two days due to time constraints and Covid testing requirements, but I’d recommend three days. I also cannot say enough about how great the food is at Mashpi. We are foodies (see my many worldwide reviews) and I can certainly say we were extremely pleased with the food here.

The Mashpi Lodge is a very unique eco lodge inside the forest of the Mashpi reserve and combines an incredible number of activities inside the rainforest with a luxury accommodation setting. We stayed for 2-nights and wouldn’t recommend staying any shorter than that as 3-3.5 hr drive from Quito. Everything is included in the price (except alcoholic beverages and spa) and staff didn’t try to upsell anything

Activities: first day we enjoyed the Sky Bike and the Observation Tower and upon return we discussed the schedule of activities with our guide Paul. In the evening we did the night walk spotting a number of varieties of frogs, while the next day we did a combination of a hike to Magnolia Falls, Glass Frog Falls (where we went for a refreshing swim) and the Dragonfly ride in the end. The hike and dragonfly tide were our favourites, and Paul was a fantastic guide helping us spot multiple plants, trees, birds, butterflies, frogs and an Agouti. We also went to Life Centre to mainly see butterflies and the Hummingbird Garden

Food: We really liked the breakfasts (detox juice and wholemeal pancakes in particular). The lunch and dinner were 3-course and food was consistently delicious. Coffee anf soft drinks could be enjoyed throughout the day and small snacks available to take with you to hikes

The Lodge and Rooms: the main dining room is the highlight of the lodge, plenty of air and room to observe scenic views of the rainforest. The rooms are spacious and bright, woth the full height window being the main feature allowing you to wakeup to an incredible rainforest view

Staff: the staff were all very welcoming , attentive and service was very fast thoughout each meal. All guides and staff were extremely knowledgeable and felt like have a real passion for their job

Mashpi lodge is an incredible hotel in the middle of the Andean Chocó rainforest. It's a private area with over 2500 hectares of protected forest. The hotel occupies a small space within the reserve, causing the least environmental impact possible. From the moment you arrive you will receive a VIP treatment, everyone knows your name, everyone is worried about you, the food is delicious, the drinks are nice, it's a truly amazing experience!!! Due to the Covid pandemic, you will have a private guide for you, so you can build your trip however you feel like doing so. It rains a lot, but the weather is warm, so you can still go around the reserve even if it rains. I would recommend you take your own rain clothes and boots, but if you don't have it, the hotel will provide everything for you. I was 21 weeks pregnant when I went there and the staff was very worried about satisfying my special needs. I was able to do all the activities, but I guess that is because I have been an athlete all my life, I think I wouldn't recommend a pregnant woman to do all the activities if they are not used to doing exercise regularly.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in and easily justified a 5 Star Review. The journey from Quito is a bit bumpy in places and we were a little disconcerted by the transfer service only picking up from one hotel (in an area of Quito which is best avoided if you have luggage with you.)

However, our first impression of the hotel soon made us feel welcomed. The hotel manager is very visible, providing leadership for a team of staff which are very clearly among the best in the hospitality business. The quality of leadership was clear to see throughout every aspect of the hotel, from the immaculate rooms and public spaces to the restaurant and guided activities.

Ideally, you need a minimum of three days here to get the full benefit (although you might need to go on a diet because of the lovely meals on offer.) You are right in the forest and it rains - a lot - but the staff will get you and your clothes dry even if you’ve been soaked in a waterfall or in a rain shower.

Our guide, Nestor was knowledgeable and caring. The fact that the lodge helps with local conservation projects and provides employment for local families makes this a special place. You will come away with a better appreciation for the environment after staying here. The daily outings into the forest ranged from the leisurely to the moderately adventurous. The night walk, revealed tarantulas, snakes and incredible translucent frogs. Bird watchers will find that the incredible bird life starts outside their window or in the early morning birdwatching session.

If there was one criticism to make it was the slight inflexibility of the transfer arrangement in Quito but everything else was literally perfect.

I spent 2 nights and 3 days at Mashpi lodge as part of a week-long tour in Ecuador with my wife. This unique hotel is located about 3 hours form Quito in the natural reserve of one of the last remaining cloud forests in the world. The road to get there is a little rough in the last 60 minutes, but you are rewarded with one of the most beautiful experiences of your life if you like nature and care about conservation. The hotel includes all meals and tours, it welcomes you with a drink and a short talk by their manager about their efforts to preserve this part of the ecosystem in Ecuador. You are then ready to check in after lunch into the rooms which are very large, all with a full glass wall to the forest, where nobody else can see you but the trees and birds. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are large, with good toiletries. Food is excellent, a breakfast buffet and 3-course lunch and dinner meals in a beautiful space with large, 2-story glass walls that make you feel in touch with nature. There is an extensive menu, and extensive options for vegetarian and vegan customers. The quality of food and presentation rivals Michelin star restaurants. The best pat of the experience at Mashpi, however, is the excursions in the park. During the day and at night (do NOT miss the night walks!) an expert guide will take you to multiple different sites exploring the forest, waterfalls and animal life. Try to squeeze in as many activities as you can, they will all be worthy. Even if it is a little expensive, Mashpi lodge is a unique experience that is well worth the trip.

Yes you can do it. Take your time and dress in layers. The guides are very helpful. Lots of stairs up and down but they go slowly when needed ( which I needed)!
