This is the third time I have stayed at the Marion on Nicol in Sandton.

The first time I was welcomed by the Hotel General Manager Sean Bartlett last year in August and October 2019, whom made my stay unforgettable.

His level of guest experiance and satisfaction is highly professional, a true hotelier at heart and will certainly do anything in his power to make you feel at home.

Sean sorted out all my daily transfers and meal requirements (as I am Lactose intolerant) special meals were designed by Sean and produced by Thabo to cater for my specific needs.

From the welcoming of my arrival to the personalised tour of the hotel to the breakfast and dinner experiance, everything was absolutely perfect and on par, truelly 5 stars all around.

I have travelled and stayed in many hotels around the world and this by far has been in my top three.

I arrived at the Marion a week ago (January 2020) only to find out there is a New Hotel General Manager by the name of Gill whom I did not get a chance to meet.

After requesting to meet with her I was showered with excuses that she was to busy.

I had a few concerns about my room, the Safe was not working, barely any amenities in the room, the basin and bath had stains in it.

Breakfast was OK, the standards have dropped.

I went out during the day for lunch,so I can't comment.

Dinner was terrible! Not five star at all!

I can't believe how the standards have dropped since Sean Bartlett(Previous General Manager) has left.

I will miss the Marion and what it used to offer!

PS : Please bring the Marion's standards back.

I was given a room one level lower than what I’d paid for. The room itself was decent and the overall service from the hotel was good.

The restaurant experience was disappointing. Ordered the zucchini soup which was the only good thing on the menu.

The seafood curry was just appalling - the stench from the dish put me off immediately, but I thought I’d try it anyway. Prawns were clearly not fresh and the fish want either. I didn’t dare try the mussels. I sent this right back and was told I’d get a refund.

Breakfast was good although they were out of many of the items listed.

I’d recommend the hotel rooms but would caution you to be

This is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg but in a perfect location with easy access. The attention to detail is impressive. Food is delicious although I think the restaurant could use some updating. The rooms are luxurious and all amenities are well thought through. Would go back anytime.

My best friend and I arrived at the Marion on Nicol with high hopes of a great high tea to celebrate the end of 2014. Our first impression wasn't great. The parking lot and surrounding grounds are in desperate need of attention and weeding. We were welcomed warmly enough and led through to a fairly appealing central dining area where we were informed that the buffet we had walked past was in fact the high tea. Oh. Not quite the 3 tier tray service we were expecting but hey. The food itself was OK but not amazing. I personally thought the deep fried chicken was an odd high tea item. Very little attention was given to the presentation (for instance the mushroom tarts were simply tossed into a deep tray) and there were flies buzzing around the whole time which was off putting. May I suggest some anti-bug measures? Unfortunately the service wasn't great either. We were only attended to twice during our visit even though our table was brimming with used cutlery and we had to go and find a waiter to get the bill. Suffice to say we definitely expected a better standard for a 5 star establishment.

I booked a get away for my husbands birthday. The aim was a 5 star relaxing, quiet pamper stay at a 5 star boutique hotel.
It's was a shocking experience. They has events booked the entire stay. It was constantly noisy and on the Saturday evening we came down to have dinner to be told there was no space for us to have dinner due to the events. The event carried on until 11.30 pm with excessive noise. The next morning the electricity kept tripping. We could not make coffee in the room or use the hair dryer...all we got were pathetic excuses. The manager was not on duty the whole weekend. We will never return or recommend this hotel !!!! 😡😤

The best thing about this hotel is the decor. The food is terrible. Also it advertises free breakfast but that's not true. The Management is doing it's best to take all it can from the client but gives the minimum! Location not too convenient if you are not driving and they will tell you they have free shuttle to Sandton then when you checked in they will say it's only 1 trip free. Better pay more at another place and end of the day you'll save more!

I stayed here for nearly a week in March this year so passing through for one night last Monday where else to stay?? this is a boutique hotel and my room this time was first class-with balcony and glass wall bathroom....! The staff are friendly without being over the top and they always go the extra mile to help you-security is paramount here so there are guards in the grounds and the hotel is behind walls and wire-essential for Jo'berg sadly. They organise cars and Santon is five minutes away yet the hotel is tranquil and quiet. Recommended.

Thank you. We had a great time. Took my mom for her 75th birthday to the high tea. The planning before the time, the welcoming and the service was excellent. During the event, the waiters were constantly looking after us making sure that we do not need anything.

we visited the Marion for high tea, didn't stay over. we were excited when we saw the ad for high tea with sparkling wine so four of us took up the deal.
Very beautiful hotel. Found the welcome somewhat lacklustre though. We were invited to wait for the rest of our party in the lounge and we were offered a glass of sparkling wine or a cooldrink. We opted for the wine! What we didn't realise was that this was the only glass we'd get with our deal!!! Huge disappointment.
The dining area was very nicely appointed, looking out over the gardens. However, there appears to be some construction going on in the gardens so it's not terribly attractive and in fact our view was of a line of clothing put out to dry!
The food was only average. Nice enough looking spread (though I've seen better) but the cakes were dry, the savories were boring and nothing was labelled so one didn't know what was what (an issue for me as I don't eat fish).
We had to hit the wine list as the only thing included was tea and filter coffee. A bottle of sparkling wine was R360. A bottle of a simple white wine (R40 in a bottle store) was R220. Crazy prices which made us feel we were being totally ripped off.
The service was good, the waiter very helpful, though he did keep disappearing.
All in all, a disappointing experience and we wouldn't return. It cost us R500 a head in the end!

First let me say that this is a very beautiful property - small but with everything for a comfortable stay. The room was very nice with a huge bathroom. Unfortunately it had a solid glass wall which meant no privacy when you used the facilities. Not cool. There was a very nice balcony with J-burg off in the distance. The airconditioning was woefully inadequate. The elevator did not work on the day of checkout and we had to carry the bags down some significant stairs. The meals were quite nice - ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the property. The staff seemed very nice. However I made the mistake of leaving my camera in my bag as it was taken out to the curb. Somewhere between the lobby and the bus - with me standing not 30 feet away - the camera was lifted from the bag. Without going into all of the details the only person(s) who had access to the bag were employees of the hotel. The unfortunate thing was that this was the start of the trip and we were headed next to Safari. In general you should expect theft at every corner in the Johannesburg area (sadly). I am a very experienced traveler and was shocked that this happened to me. My problem was that I trusted the staff within the confines of the hotel grounds (and please understand that these properties are all walled off, barbed wire tops, with electrified fences and strong gates. No one was around but staff and my group. Enjoy the hotel - but hold on to anything of value.
