Detailed Reviews
Every once in a while you get pleasently surprised by an experience and that is what dining should be, an experience. I am "home" visiting family and decided to take my mom to dinner @ Herb Garden. Initialy I was taken aback as they did not have the Pork Saltimbocca I wanted.
I then decided, on the server's suggestion, to try the Heb Garden fillet. Man, what an experience. Succulently cooked fillet paired with blue cheese sauce, finished with green fig over a creamy mash. I could not stop eating. I am not into sweets, but was amazed at the freshly baked
chocalate volcano with vanilla ice cream my guests had. Add to that the excellent service and this trully was an experience.

Vlotte en vriendelijk personeel.
Uitgebreide menukaart.
Kozen de kipschnitzel en een steak,
Maar viel erg tegen! De papat was veel te zout en de schnitzel erg droog.
Ook een erg lange wachttijd, terwijl het heel rustig was.
Zou dit restaurant niet aanbevelen.

I booked at Herb Garden through Airbnb. As the owner does not keep his Airbnb calendar updated, he overbooked the 3 rooms he has available. When we arrived after a long drive, no room was available although the room had been paid for. The owner refused to take the necessary action on the Airbnb site i.e. Cancel the room, enabling action to be undertaken to refund the room. He was not cooperative and did not want to engage even though the solution had to come from his side. So I was left to try to contact Airbnb and cancel the room on the owner's behalf. Unacceptable and should be removed from booking sites.

We stayed over one night on the way to Namibia. Even in making the reservation, the owner MD, called me immediately to clarify some questions. WE ended up speaking for half an hour and I felt I had made a new friend. When we arrive, the owner’s son, Ruan greeted us, showed us our room and made us extremely welcome. The room had everything we needed, including heating for a cold night. The only minor issue was that the shower pressure was a bit low.
We had dinner in the small restaurant. We both had lamb chops, which is one of their signature dishes. This might have been the best lamb i have ever eaten, which makes sense as, in this arid environment, sheep are about all that can be farmed. They use local, Namakwaland lamb which has a differnt flavour than the other South Africa delicacy, Karoo lamb. Again the food wasn’t fancy but, OMG, outstanding. Ruan chatted with us and made us feel extremely welcome
The next morning, we hung out in the restaurant while wait8ng for some friends to catch up and have breakfast. The owner’s daughter in law, Dani was our host. Awesome host and great basic breakfast. Again, just that feeling of being at home.
While we hadn’t planned it, we needed to stay in springbok on the return. I called MD but they were full so he offered to make arrangements for four of us. He did. We ended up having a long supper and chatting with him. All were happy and, of note was the vegetarian Pasta dish for one friend which he said was excellent and my venison shepherds pie which contained shredded rather than minced meat and was sublime.
The evening ended with MDs Buchu Brandy which is an acquired taste but what a great evening
I honestly recommend this place as home away from home. Nothing fancy, very good food, decent accommodation and friendly beyond words
