#10 of 22 B&Bs / Inns in Nottingham Road
Well worth a meander in the beautiful and evocative Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal, this stunning country lodge, masterfully crafted in wood and stone, is just a few minutes from the busy N3 Freeway, and a world apart from the chaos and cares of the city. Set in expansive grounds, overlooking tall trees and a dam, FarSide oozes old-world graciousness and charm, combined with a certain quirkiness of spirit that is evident in the name alone. The accommodation is luxuriously comfortable, and the bedroom fittings include an inviting ball-and-claw bath for that extra touch of indulgence. A leisurely breakfast, warmly prepared and served with a smile, adds the B to the B that makes the FarSide such a welcoming pleasure for a short or lingering stay on the way to or from the coast. The FarSide Manor is a Premium, Four Bedroomed Boutique B&B. The house is built from Masoned Grey Sandstone and detailed with Old Wooden Doors and Windows. The rooms are Extremely Comfortable, Warm and Homely. From Luxurious Deep ‘Ball and Claw’ Baths to Magnificent Antique Furniture, you will be transported to another world while getting lost in South Africa’s beautiful Country Side. As Nottingham Road can get real chilly at any time of the year (which is worth remembering) we also have Electric Blankets, Under-Carpet Heating and a Huge Log Fireplace in the Lounge. World Class Breakfast Under Floor Heating & Electric Blankets TV with DSTV Deep Ball and Claw Bath & Shower Premium Filter Coffee Station WiFi Internet Daily Housekeeping Honesty Bar Pool Table & Dart Board Stunning Common Lounge with Fireplace No children under the age of 12 Years, unless you book the entire house (4 Rooms) [Exclusivity]. My wife and I stayed at the Manor for 3 nights at the end of January 2021, during a more severe stage of the dreaded lockdown. The manor is marvellous. It is nestled perfectly within the Midlands Meander, surrounded by beautiful flora and rolling hills. It is located about 2km off the N3, but far enough away to be noise free. The building itself has that old English look and feel, with a stone façade and antique wooden furniture. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. Our room had a shower and a romantic ‘in-room’ bathtub. The rooms also have plenty of storage space… Something that I have come to appreciate! I hate having to live out of a suitcase and have my luggage strewn all over the room. The FarSide offers a delicious and quite customizable breakfast. My wife has quite a strange and restricted diet; and not only did they cater for her but surprised her with surprisingly delicious and healthy options. The owner, Graham, looked after us for our stay and was the perfect host. He is quite the all-rounder; so be sure to pick his brain about… well anything! For me, the special treats at the FarSide were the all-natural breakfast (even the eggs are from chickens on the property), the signature sour-dough bread and the extreme hospitality. Five green dots from us. By the way, be sure to check out Graham’s unique paintings.

We stopped over at Farside Farm on our way to the Drakensberg, stayed for one night, but would definitely have stayed longer if we knew what we know now. The room has more than enough space and together with the most beautifully decorated bathroom, everything is perfect. We were very fortunate to have had the whole house to ourselves as there were no other guests that night, so we sat in front of the huge fire place, sipping some good red wine, listening to the music that was playing in the background. The extra special treat for me personally, was the cats and dogs (I love English Pointers by the way) who were all part of the evening and cuddled up with is in front of the fire place. We would most certainly go there again, this time for longer. Thank you Ryan for your hospitality. Warm regards Louis and Bernadette Botha

We spent 2 nights here and wish we could’ve stayed much longer curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace with a cat on each knee and gorgeous dogs at our feet. The walks on the property were beautiful (when it wasn’t pouring with rain) and the advice of things to do in the area were great. We hope to be back soon!

What a wonderful place to stay. The owner and all staff are super friendly and attentive. The grounds are beautiful with sweeping views of fields and a dam. Breakfast is delicious and local produce is used. Highly recommended - especially for animal lovers as the family dogs and cat are the 1st to greet you and are free to roam the grounds. Really a wonderful, peaceful place to stay
