Very convenient stopover en route to Karoo. The farm is not too far from Kroonstad, where we had an early dinner. lWe had a family unit with a huge bathroom and a separate room where the kids could sleep. Lovely huge bed, slept like a baby. Highly recommended.

We were travelling around South Africa a bit on a caravan trip and on our journey back to the Eastern Cape from Kruger Park we decided to stop over at what had once been the number one caravan park in the country (Kroonpark in Kroonstad). After taking a drive through the park we realised we would not be able to stay there due to it being so run down. Thank goodness we phoned Barn Guesthouse! Not only did they have a room for us, but they had somewhere for us to park our caravan too!
The room was lovely with a big bed and lovely linen and a very welcome respite from what might have been a long drive through the night. The owners are lovely, welcoming friendly people- even if you arrive on the spur of the moment at about seven at night! The breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked. There is a construction company that has taken over a large part of the place, but we were not disturbed at all by any of them. We will definitely go back and look forward to enjoying the place at its best one day when the construction company has left!

Good location, lovely friendly family happy to help in every way, comfortable rooms and wholesome food. However Aveng Construction have established a construction camp next to the farm house so the peaceful rural surroundings has been transformed into a construction site with trucks, labourers, living quarters, materials and huge road building machines taking up a large area of the farm yard. It was great to walk in the paddock where there are zebra and horses and the bird life is apparently very good. Once the construction camp moves off the Barn Guesthouse will regain the 'Excellent' rating. I wish them well as they are warm wonderful hosts going that extra mile to please.

I was working in Kroonstad and was concerned because I had no vehicle. The owner modified her schedule and provided transportation both ways for me at a very reasonable rate as there are no taxi's in Kroonstad. I thoroughly enjoyed dinner there each night and may have picked up some weight it was so good - don't pass it up. There is really nowhere else to eat which was fine by me. Breakfast was great and cooked for me but they also had cereals, yogurt, bread, fruit, etc. The rooms used to be old stone sheep stalls but have been rusticly decorated. The bed was amazing and was the best night of sleep I had during my first two weeks of traveling in South Africa. The guesthouse is still an active farm with not much else around but if you enjoy a stroll or run in the country with piece and quiet you will find it perfect. I also enjoyed their friendly dog who would come and greet me each morning...great stay and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

We recently went on a roadtrip to the Eastern Cape and decided to break the trip in half so our canine children won't get too exhausted. My fiance quickly found a pet friendly establishment in Kroonstad and we were SO impressed with this guesthouse. Usually when an establishment is listed as pet friendly, it's for lapdogs or small animals only. Our two doggies are watch dogs (one alsation and one labrador) and were welcomed with open arms.

The price we paid (R550 for the room) was excellent value for money. Although only a 3 star, it can easily pass as a 4 star guesthouse. The bed was a King with good quality percale linen, good quality pillows and enough pillows on the bed. A complimentary bottle of rosé wine waited for us on the dresser. The room had a TV with some dstv channels and aircon, as well as a bar fridge with snacks and honesty bar. A jug with milk for our complimentary coffee was also provided and left in the fridge for our use.

The bathroom was as big as the room with a big corner bath as well as a shower, brand new bath sheets and towels and liquid hand soap. If I have to be picky I would just suggest that the guest amenities in the bathroom be filled up and not left half half in the bottles. But everything was nice and clean. We fell asleep with the sound of farm animals in the far background.

When the dogs wanted to go for walkies during the night, our room was close enough to a huge grass area to take them outside.

We were surprised that they weren't very busy over the long weekend, it seemed as if we were the only guests in that block, which we actually appreciated because our dogs don't do well with other dogs and it would possibly have been a problem should we have encountered other dogs during a walky break. The grassed area were fenced and gated so they couldn't go astray; however because we arrived and left in the dark we couldn't see the full extent of the area and had the dogs on leash for the full duration. They slept with us in our room (each on his own bed).

I would absolutely recommend this guesthouse and would definitely stay there again - if only because our dogs were so welcome.
