I do contract work on the mines around Welkom and regularly stay at Villa Siesta. The rooms are clean, I am not a fan of the carpeting but it's alright. There is aircon in most (if not every) room (Welkom is hot). There is usually a bath and shower while bathrooms are sometimes open plan. Be warned that the rooms do differ from one another.
There is a mini fridge and kettle etc. I stay there regularly and even accidentally melted a microwave one day but the staff was very forgiving (within reason). They are friendly and accommodating. The WiFi is good, there is dstv and you can ask for a room with a desk if you need. The rooms do not have sliding security gates but the complexes are gated. The dinners are also well worth it.

Welkom is off the tourist track and we really struggled to find somewhere to stay here. We eventually stumbled across Villa Siesta on a Welkom specific site and booked direct with the owners. We arrived straight from the overnight flight from the UK (Welkom is around 3 hours from JO'burg international) and arrived hot, tired and nervous - we had no idea what to expect from Villa Siesta or from Welkom. My inlaws had lived in Welkom and my husband was born there, they had all left 30 years ago and hadn't been back since. So it was an emotional time for all as we returned. We arrived at Villa Siesta to find spacious, luxurious rooms with very efficient aircon and beautiful furnishings and fittings. Both rooms had a jacuzzi and we also had a pretty outside terrace. The gardens are lovely and sitting in the arbour with a cool drink made the snowy UK same a very long way away. Ancilin (our host) is lovely, she makes sure that you have everything you need and looks after you so well. We had breakfast both mornings on our terrace. Ancilin arranged dinner for us at Mojos on our first night which was a fun family restaurant with great steaks and seafood. The other night Ancilin and her husband Piet arranged a Braai for us, the food was great, with the best pap we had ever had but what also made it really special was being made so much part of the family.

Villa Siesta is a special place and we loved it. Tourism is a fledgling industry in Welkom as there isn't really anything to do in the area for tourists and is much more a business visitor destination. However the football in 2010 may well result in tourist visitors to Welkom as it is relatively close to Bloemfontein and Bloem may need to overspill into surrounding areas depending on which countries qualify for the games there. This would be great news for Welkom and we would recommend Villa Siesta to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Free State area or for travellers looking for a stop off on the Jo'burg to Cape Town drive.

As to Welkom itself it had changed a lot in 30 years but it is a bustling vibrant town with bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed it and it was a great nostalgia trip for my inlaws.

Whenever we do a roadtrip as a family (3 of us), we leave some of the nights accommodation up to chance and hope that we stumble across a hidden gem while travelling. And when we arrived in Welkom (on our drive from Cape Town to Sun City) we were very tired and were battling to find somewhere online to stay. We can across the review on Trip Advisor for Villa Siesta and so we decided to just rock up and see if they could accommodate us.

We received a very warm welcome and even though the family rooms were already booked out, they happily put an extra mattress in another (very large) room for us and we were sorted!

The bathroom was DIVINE! It was done up really modern and tasteful and we had a fabulous shower (one of our "not negotiables" when travelling is a good shower!). The room was also really large and a nice King sized bed awaited us (our other "non-negotiable"). The bed was creaky though, which was literally the ONLY negative I have to say about our stay (as it woke each other up if one of us went to the bathroom in the night), but it was not such a bad thing that we would not stay there again!

Dinner was FANTASTIC - a real gourmet braai where the chef braaied our deliciously marinated meat to order (loads of cuts and types to choose from) and with about 10 salads and 5 warm sides to choose from, it really was the best braai we have ever had. And being Capetonian we braai all the time in Summer!
Breakfast was just as lovely, with warm meals being cooked to order and a full continental buffet to choose from as well.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay here and WILL stay again when next we drive up to Joburg. And last but not least it was fantastic value for money - possibly the best value for our money we have had - and we do road trips quite a lot and stay in different places each night...

Stayed here for one night with 4 other team members en route from bloemfontein to jhb

Managed to get the "honeymoon" room which was large, spacious and came with lovely shower and corner bath with jets

After a long day at work in bloemfontein and subsequent drive the lodge was welcomed

The team just wanted take out and the hosts were lovely in letting us order in and use the dining room and cutlery, plates etc

Having not had a restful the night previous the bed here was soft and allowed me to get some good shut eye with another long drive due the following day.

Being Muslim they were informed ahead and catered a breakfast just for me and this was definitely a thumbs up.

All in all...safe,quiet location and welcoming hosts made this stopover enjoyable and next time we are passing through we will definitely recommend to the company to use

Not at all like photos on page. Very old and dirty. Mould in shower and shower head. Dusty carpets, lampshades, bedding. Luckily we had our own pillows. Feather pillows and 3 of us allergic to feather.......but no person at premises to assist. Towels were lovely 👍Pool dirty.

This facility is on the border of Welkom CBD, yet it feels as if you are miles away from any town or city. Rooms are well laid out and spacious. The mere fact that you can eat braaivleis every night alone, is a bonus!

Villa Siesta is our undisputed favourite accommodation whenever we travel to Welkom. Comfortably equipped rooms complete with a bar fridge, microwave and coffee & tea facilities are tastefully decorated and well maintained while cleanliness is held in high esteem. While the establishment was fully booked during our 3 night stay, hot water was never short and peaceful surroundings prevailed. Offering privacy and secure parking, little remains unattended to.

Villa Siesta's staff are friendly, hospitable and competent. Boasting an amply stocked bar and fully furnished dining room, we had the absolute pleasure of enjoying hearty breakfasts and a tasty home style dinner during our stay. This luxury eliminates the necessity to travel to town in search of a restaurant.

I'd recommend Villa Siesta on any day - whether it be for businesses or leisure travels.
