We arrived on Friday afternoon and left Sunday morning. The room was nice and clean and the bedding clean as well. Bed nice and big. It had a small fridge with water in and dstv and a tv overhead. Lots of lights and a ceiling fan for those hot nights. Also had a wall panel heater. Bathroom had a shower, toilet and sink. With toilet paper and towels, hand soap etc.

The property is quite charming. It's on the Vaal River bank, although I suspect the access to the river is not on private property as it was accessible to the public and anyone could just walk into the open gates and go down to the river. (and to your chalet front door but let's not be paranoid for now). Cars were behind a locked gate most of the time unless someone forgot not to close the motorized gate, This happened a few times. Cars are also a little walk away from where you stay. Not a big issue.

They seem to be busy renovating chalets/rooms and the restaurant was also being worked on and closed. They do however provide vouchers for a mini breakfast at O's restaurant which is situated about 1km away.

The gardens were lovely and it has a little chapel for weddings.

Nice value for money. One room cost R600 (roughly $60) per night.

I have stayed there twice and would do it again. It is really nice to walk along the river. Unfortunately you don't see it from the room. The service was very friendly. There is free wifi, but it did not work from my room.

Ours was a short trip, and we only slept here, spending most of our time with friends. The room was basic, but comfortable. We had a fridge with cold water provided, and a kettle with coffee/tea supplies. Our room had a bath tub, with towels, shampoo and lotion provided. I read somewhere that they are slowly remodeling the cabins, which may explain why some have showers and some do not. I don't remember there being a ceiling fan in our room, but the weather was cool (but not cool enough for the wall heater), so it wasn't needed. The location is quite wonderful, next to the Vaal River, well worth getting up early for a walk along the river bank.

Disappointed. The units are self catering but had to go buy a proper knife, grater, bottel opener etc. Some of the crockery were chipped.
Kids unit had no water - had it reported twice and still no water.
Specifically asked for a braai with reservation and before arrival. Yet when we booked in had to ask again - they had to make a plan to get a braai at our unit.
Bedding really substandard. Towels were not fresh.
Receptionist were unhelpful and rude. When we booked arrival was noted as 14:00. A day before I got a call to inform us that we should make sure we arrive at 12:00 latest as there will be no one at reception after that because of easter weekend. When we indicated we will not be able to make 12:00 the receptionist were quite aggressive and rude.

Haven’t stayed at Egweni, but visited their G&V bar and restaurant which serves amazing gin cocktails. Give the pomegranate/pineapple cocktail a shot. The staff are also really friendly and offer great hospitality. G&V has indoor and outdoor seating and offers great views of the Vaal River.

16 Guys on golf Tour. Camping chairs, cooler boxes, multi media equipment stolen. Egweni take no responsibility for theft, their T&C's apply, Receptionist Mirriam was very sympathetic but the Manageress was aggressive. So just just warning future visitors, watch your belongings.

What a fantastic surprise we had when we stayed at Egweni lodge for a business conference. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and the food was traditional and delicious. I will definitely be back with my family in the near future.

The Hartelus market is hosted on tbe river on a monthly basis and is worth visiting

Entrance is R10 per person and there's a variety of food, crafts and drinks for sale.

Grab a blanket or chair and enjoy the peace and quiet on the banks of the river

It can get busy, so plan ahead to enjoy the day. Parking is available either on the premises or just outside

What a wonderful surprise when we visited G on V gin bar at Egweni. It is a cosy and very upmarket venue in the bamks if the vaal river.
There is a good choice of gin and craft gin to suit your tastebuds.
We enjoyed the grapefruit and the pomegranate. Beautifully served and delicious. The tapas we chose were presented lovely and were delicious. A must visit when next in Parys.
