We first saw this venue online when looking for a place to get married in the vicinity of Johannesburg. After looking at lots of venues this one stood out immediately and we booked it from overseas.

The venue is just a wedding venue and was on the Vaal river.

The staff were great, making us feel like ours was the only wedding they had that year. The accommodation was lovely and although it rained there were enough undercover options that the rain didnt affect the feeling of the wedding at all.

Was perfect in every way.

We stayed over for a friend's wedding. The venue is lovely and picturesque. The food at the wedding was amazing (loved the pumpkin fritters). The one downside was that there wasn't fans or air conditioning at the venue hall, and we were reliant on the natural winds to cool off the venue.

The location is beautiful and so isolated. However, there is a 30 minute dirt road to get to the venue, which can't be ideal for those driving through or home at night.

My lovely daughter and her husband got married at The Nutcracker. The food is amazing - the gravel road to the venue is not the best but the dood makes up for it. The small chapel is just the right size and the rustic design makes it truly special. The use of home stead accommodating 10 people is included in venue hire. The options available for menu made it possible to serv firts corse of meal outside in lovely garden while photos where taken. The "cigar lounge" is a back up plan should it rain. I can recommend this venue for special wedding. You can expect the team to be very helpful and professional. The only criticism I have is the lack of large fans inside venue - needed on a hot summers day because while it may cool down after sunset the inside of venue remains very hot. The placement of speakers during function by 3d party DG contracted by venue can be better to allow for improved sound.

Awesome venue , fantastic chef - the meals were delicious !!! Lovely staff, so helpful in every way, nothing was too much trouble for them. The spacious & comfortable rooms are nicely decorated, and the setting on the banks of the Vaal river is like a paradise! We enjoyed every moment of our stay, and despite the corrugated dirt road, we'll go back there anytime!

Beautiful venue, excellent food, amazing weather. Great service. Good breakfast. Loved the decor and quirky knick-knacks. Just one complaint - why are there no fans? The stifling heat made sleeping difficult.

Its not easy to describe in words this charming Venue. A HUGE thank you to Grant and Samantha and their dedicated team who went above and beyond anything we could have expected, they treated us like family. The Nutcracker is truly the coolest venue very unquie and so so special. I can highly recommend this Venue, a weekend to relax with family and to have a fairy tale wedding.

This is one great wedding venue, a bit isolated and very quite, it didn’t disappoint! Not to mention great food!
Not only that but accommodation as well, rooms were neat and tidy, all and all had a great weekend, only improvement I can think of is cell service.

What a lovely place for a wedding! Everything was on point - the setting is fantastic next to the river, the chapel was just the right size for the number of guests, the hall / main venue not too big and the food was absolutely divine!

The rooms of the lodge are well appointed, spotlessly clean and the fluffy towels were just the ticket :)

The staff - very friendly and accommodating. The young lady who co-ordinated the wedding - what a job really well done. You were soaked to the bone from the torrential rain that we had, yet you managed to make the event move forward seamlessly and without issue.

Thank you very much for a great experience.

We attended a wedding and arrived the Friday afternoon and stayed in the Homestead. The garden is well kept. The 2 breakfasts were VERY nice and tasty. Wedding chapel was cosy. Food for the reception was stunning and really exceptional!!!
