We stayed here overnight and our host, Isabelle was very friendly. The location was nice on the river and close to town (2km).

The standard room was basic with a good firm bed with crisp clean sheets. The bathroom had a shower and was a bit dated. The room smelled like moth balls. There was no toilet paper provided. There were tea-coffee making facilities in the room but no milk, powdered or liquid. The room size was adequate.

The biggest issue I had is that I felt like I was staying in someone’s house. The room was connected to the owner’s house and we could hear everything happening in the corridor linked to their house. Not very private and it was quite noisy as I could hear the guests next door and people in the main house. Price was fair but did not include breakfast.

Overall I would prefer a more private setting and would not stay here again.

The location was perfect...between the two golf courses! Close to shops, restaurants. Rooms were clean, serviced daily. Big garden , beautiful trees.. pity we didn't have time to use the braai facility. Electric blankets, lovely hot water. Thank you Isabel for being such a warm and welcoming host!

We arrived at sunset, and found this place last minute, and felt super welcome, after a long drive. It's safe, quiet, close to the river and town, on a beautiful big property. Thanks you for the hospitality and the muffins. 👍🏻

We stayed for two nights on our way to and back again for an event in Potchefstroom. The place is sufficient for a stopover or weekend if you are going out often. Not ideal if you will be spending a lot of time on the premises, especially with children. The biggest problem we had was that the pool was not covered by a safety net.

Vintage decor. It gets very cold so close to the river, bring warm clothes for morning and evening and warm pajamas! Ask the owner about activities and events in advance. Ask about wifi and password. This seems to be a privately run house with rooms for guests, not a formal establishment. It has a nice location, although the noisy bike rallies from the resort could be heard in our room until 4am. Even though we listed cons below, we still enjoyed our stay.

Pros:
- Enough blankets are provided for this time of the year
- Big garden and lovely trees.
- Braai close to our room and place to sit outside next to pool or porch at front of the house
- Warm water
- Housekeeping (making beds and cleaning braai)
- Friendly host/owner
- Park run just down the street
- Amenities in the bathroom, toiletpaper, towels provided. And coffee, tea, milk and water provided as well.

Cons:
- Breakfast not included
- Not child friendly for kids under 12 years
- Swimming pool is not covered for safety and can be accessed by all guests and their kids
- Braai area at main house seemed to be communal and has to be shared between guests
- The lights at the braai and swimming pool did not work
- No fireplace or electric blankets. Panel heater (with a big crack down the middle) in the room worked, but will not be sufficient in winter
- No panel heater in room nextdoor where our family stayed
- No aircons in our rooms
- Very limited DSTV channels.
- Guesthouse is in need of a lot of maintenance inside and outside.
- Noisy fridge in the room which we needed to switch off to get some sleep.
- Kitchen is not fully equipped. We needed a cutting board for bread, smaller glass bowls to prepare salad, milk jug, cheese grater, scissors. No hooks to hang dish cloths.
- No soap bowl or place to put soap etc in the shower.
- Dirty and old rug in the room.
- Door handle missing from one of the cupboards
- No table and chairs to sit and eat inside the room (only two chairs and small coffee table) Only outside.
- The river can't be seen from the house. There is the garden, pallisade fence, street, park and trees before you reach the river.
- A bat managed to come in during the night through a vent in the wall and died in the kitchen sink.

This place is just one of my favourites of all time. Complete tranquility. Lovely cool swimming pool. Outstanding hospitality, clean and spacious room and beautiful gardens right on the river! Thank you for hosting us. I would recommend this place to any one who is looking for a relaxed and quiet stop over.

We stayed here for one night mid-week in April. We were the only guests. We chose the self-catering river cottage at this guesthouse over and above other options in Parys due to the description that was on the website 'overlooking the river'. (The website has since changed). The cottage does indeed overlook the river but first is the security fence and road, then trees and then the river. The cottage is one room open-plan + bathroom.

We saw the rooms inside the main house + they seem very tastefully decorated but standard not luxury as described on websites. They are all to the front left of the house off the main corridor, the owner lives upstairs. The large beautiful sunny sitting-room is at the front right of the house - very elegant decor and delicate furniture.

River cottage pros:
- private
- reasonable cost if a group is staying - there was a double bed, a single bed and couches
- en-suite with bath and shower
- very comfortable bed + pillows
- kettle with tea/coffee items
- self-catering with fridge/freezer
- stunning sunset view from the private terrace, can also walk down to the riverfront to see it better
- short drive from town centre
- tv (no dstv - standard channels only)

Cottage cons:
- open-plan so not great if one party snores
- looks out over garden and then security fence, difficult to see the river
- very noisy fridge (take earplugs if you are a light sleeper)
- no hot water for bath/shower in the evening, only available in the morning
- no bath plug

Guesthouse pros:
- very friendly elegant hostess
- chic beautifully furnished lounge
- lovely gardens and terrace
- flexible regarding arrival and departure times
- situated on quiet street, secure parking
- lovely views of garden from front rooms
- pretty patio for morning coffee or evening drinks

Guesthouse cons:
- breakfast option discouraged - owner said that most people eat out when they stay when we enquired about an early breakfast before our departure
- cash only, no credit cards accepted - we were told this when time came to pay

Overall a nice reasonable option for a short stay in Parys. If you are a light sleeper take earplugs or stay elsewhere. I found the beds in the cottage to be very comfortable. Welcoming hostess. Lovely sunset.
